“You have chlamydia.”

Three words no man wants to hear.

I’ve always been liberal with my appreciation of the female form, a firm believer in the ‘try before you buy’ principle, but living life to the fullest obviously didn’t end well for me considering the unexpected—and very unwelcome—consequence of my free and easy past.

After living through the horrendous experience that was informing my recent sexual partners of my acquired ‘condition,’ I made a vow to myself – and a bet with my best friend—that the next woman I sleep with will be the ‘one.’

What I will learn is that even when something happens and the games come to an end, there’s always the chance of something—or someone—crashing in and changing everything.
So this is my story. It may start with a venereal disease, but I promise you, I’m determined to get my happy ending.

Enticing excerpt

“I’ve narrowed it down to five reasons why a woman would throw a drink at a man.”

He leans back and crosses his perfectly toned arms over his chest.

“Impart your wisdom, oh wise bartender.” He takes another drink of his beer and—yet again—watching me like a hawk. I wish he’d stop watching me.

My confidence wavers under his intense stare but when I catch a knowing glint in his eye, it riles me up. There’s nothing worse than a guy who hides his unease behind a cocky façade, especially when I know there’s something genuine hiding there.

It’s one of the worst qualities a guy can have. It’s disingenuous and fake and if there’s two things I hate—in anyone—it’s that.

I square my shoulders and stand up straight, deciding to let him have it, putting my hands out in front of me to count on my fingers.

“One, you cheated on her.” He shakes his head, an amused smile playing on his lips.

“Nope. Next.”

“Two, connected to the first, you hooked up with her sister, best friend or mother . . .” He snorts at that one, chuckling under his breath as he shakes his head again.

“Right, then, the last three,” I continue. “Three through five are offending her family/job/friends or outfit, asking her to pay for your date and lastly, giving her an STD.”

His eyes grow wide and he sits bolt upright.

Bingo.

“Mommy?” Rose asks, standing next to Kate and tugging on her top.
Kate takes a sip of wine before looking down at her daughter with a smile on her face. “Yeah, princess?”
“What’s an ortasm?”
Wine shoots out of Kate’s mouth, as she chokes. The rest of us either gasp, snort, or in Mac’s case, cackle with laughter.
Noah and Zoe’s Nate, never one to miss out on being the center of attention, decides to wade in with his five-year old wisdom. “I have a penith,” he says, before pulling down his pants to prove the fact.
“Oh God, I can’t breathe,” Abi wheezes, bent over in her chair and laughing like a loon.
“Daddy says that he’ll cut off any boy’s penis that touches me,” Megan, Sean and Sam’s gorgeous nine-year old daughter, informs the group.
“He’d be right, pumpkin,” Sam replies, pursing her lips and not looking at all surprised by her daughter’s announcement.
“I’m so glad Riley can’t hear us. You don’t want to know the things she comes out with,” Mac adds just as Riley appears beside her. “Shit,” she mutters.
“Daddy told me I’m not allowed to talk about penises. But if you can then I can too.”
“Riley, this is adult conversation.”
“But you said adults have toys, like when I found a huge plastic penis in that red box at the back of your closet and you told me it was a paperweight.”
Mac’s face goes red, and her lips twitch. “Ah . . . yeah.”
“You told me it was a paperweight.”
“That’s because it was, honey.”
“That’s good, because I put it on Daddy’s desk in his office this morning. You shouldn’t hide things like that.”
The rest of the group struggles to stifle their laughter but somehow Mac powers through it. “I told you about going into my closet, missy.”
Riley shrugs, her hand darting out to grab a handful of potato crisps from the bowl in the middle of the table. “I was looking for the chicken.”
We all go silent, waiting for the penny to drop.
Mac’s head jerks back. “What?”
“Oh no. I’m not sure I want to know where this is going . . .” Abi says quietly beside us
“I heard you say you wanted Daddy’s cock.” Riley turns to her mother and narrows her eyes, her hands moving to her hips as she takes a hilarious—and very indignant—pose. “And I couldn’t find a chicken in your room so I looked in the closet. You shouldn’t hide Daddy’s cock. It’s mean for Daddy to keep a chicken inside.”
“Ah . . .” Mac wide eyes move to Kate.
“Riley,” Kate says, her voice full of humor. “I think you should go ask your Daddy about his chicken. Make sure you do it so that all of the uncles can hear too. I bet they’ll love to hear about the chicken.”
“I think I will,” she states with a firm nod before turning on her heels and leaving the room in search of her father.
Mac can do nothing but shake her head. “I swear to God that child is not mine.”

“Introvert: a person whose motives and actions are directed inward, who tends to be preoccupied with their own thoughts and feelings, and minimizes their contact with other people.” That defines Allyn Anders to a T. She prefers solitude to crowds, working from home to office life, and old music to popular music. Ally, as she prefers to be called, is never one to do anything out of her bubble of comfort until one night …

One night that changes everything.

Cole Clarke is the opposite of an introvert. Hell, he’s the lead singer and guitarist of Sunday Told A Secret, a band that makes Maroon 5 look like child’s play. He’s the band’s “bad boy,” only accepting the title because “loner” and “player” are already claimed by his bandmates, Gunner and Avis.

The night Ally meets Cole is a pure chance encounter. There’s an immediate attraction and the best part? Ally has no idea who Cole is and he kind of loves that.

Fate has more plans that just one night for Cole and Ally. Cole finds that he wants more from Ally, and he wants to give more to her in return. There’s only one problem — he’s married — and his alcoholic wife issues him a new level of misery he never expects.

These two thirty-somethings have spicy chemistry that’s impossible to resist, decisions to make, messy waters to navigate, and blind faith to trust in this contemporary romance that a hint of rock star flair.

Synopsis

Love will find a way, and for Brute and Bexley it
comes to life standing under the bright lights of a grocery store aisle. ‘A
Kiss to Keep You’ is a short, sweet, happily ever after story that you are
going to adore.

Richard Monte had it all. A satisfying career in the
military, where he took pride in serving his country. He had close friends,
good ones, and a goddaughter he doted on. His life was filled with riches, and
looked to stay that way for the foreseeable future. All of that was stripped
away in an instant, destroyed along with his face in the flash and explosion of
a roadside bomb. Struggling to find his way in a new world, one where his very
appearance is cause for fear and dismay, he stumbles upon a woman who seems to
see beyond the surface, a curvy blonde named Bexley. Her reaction to him is so
different, and she offers him an unexpected taste of beauty from her sweetly
upturned lips. They seem destined to be together, but a rising danger in a far
western state threatens everything he’s worked to build. Not without her own
demons, Bexley has to fight overwhelming odds to hold onto the man she’s come
to love.

Excerpt
From chapter one, Brute’s Girl:

Brute
He sat on his bike and
watched her. Gorgeous, reserved, she seemed unaware of her own beauty, and just
as unconscious of his regard, because she never looked up from the book held
balanced on her knees. Never raised her gaze to find him watching her. To see
the other men in the area looking their fill. Seated on the green grass of the
park, back to a tree, she rested with her heels drawn up tight to her bottom
while her skirt draped gracefully over her angled legs. With a bottle of water
lying nearby, her slouchy messenger bag was tossed to one side, phone nowhere
in sight. She had lost herself in the story, as she so often did. Blonde,
stunning, and so unattainable, especially for a man like him. She might as well
have been on the moon.
Ricky sighed and started his
bike, checking traffic before he smoothly pulled out of the lot where he had
been sitting for over an hour. The first minutes had been spent anxiously
waiting on her arrival, then the remainder, he’d been avidly watching his girl.
That was what the guys in the motorcycle club, his brothers, all called her. As
he rolled the throttle and accelerated up the street, he was already
anticipating the jeering catcalls that would greet him when he pulled into the
clubhouse. Brute’s Girl.
Gliding the bike to a stop
behind traffic, as he waited for the light to turn green, he turned his head,
glancing into the car beside him. Without thinking, he smiled fondly at the
young girl driving the aged two-door vehicle. She looked a lot like his
goddaughter, pert nose covered by freckles, untidy hair tucked behind her ears.
Seeing her made him think he needed to call Dylan, see how their Natalie was
doing in her first year of college, ask about the family. Then the girl turned
her head and saw him. Her reaction was instant and dramatic, hands slapping at
the controls on the inside of the door to lock the car, mouth falling open in
silent horror. Swiftly, he wiped the smile from his face and turned to face
forward, not wanting to make her more uncomfortable than he already had.
Richard Monte was well
acquainted with the societal challenges he had to work within, and around. He
should be, he saw evidence of them every time he looked in the mirror. Face
mangled by the roadside bomb that had taken most of his patrol, his skin in
turns was glossy smooth and cratered from the burns and shrapnel. He knew how
the barest glimpse of his countenance could affect those who were unprepared.
That was why he didn’t go out often; choosing instead to stay in his apartment,
his work-from-home job as a help desk technician was without much outside
contact. Not content, but merely pragmatic enough to recognize what it did to
him every time he provoked a reaction like this one.
The men of the Rebel
Wayfarers MC were the exception. Introduced to them by a friend, these people
judged him not by what remained of his face, but by his actions and words.
Fiercely honorable in their own way, the outlaw group of bikers had folded
themselves around him protectively, finding him a job allowing him to support
himself. Providing both independence and giving him a community of people he
could count on, no matter what.
The girl in the park, the
blonde. The beauty he would only ever be able to look at from afar. She was
another anomaly in his world. Months ago he had seen her in the grocery store,
and she had shocked him by not reacting. Well, not reacting to his face, at
least. She had reacted to him as a man, something he hadn’t experienced for
nearly a decade. Reaching for a boxed dinner, he had clumsily knocked it to the
floor, and before he could grab it, the blonde had bent over and picked it up.
Holding it behind her back, she had smiled up at him, her tone light and
playful as she had asked, “What’ll you give me for it?”
Bright blue pools looking
right at his face, smile curling her full red lips, cheeks lifted, and that
same smile making her eyes fucking dance, she had looked him in the eyes and
teased him. Exactly as a woman would do with a man she found attractive.
Without hesitation, he’d answered as he would have before the injury, boldly
stating the cost. Two words shaping his desires. “A kiss.”
Immediately, she’d responded,
“Deal,” and leaned forward, lifting her chin. Standing there in the grocery
store aisle, he had bent slightly, pressing his lips in a brief, soft,
closed-mouthed kiss to raspberry-flavored ones. Lips belonging to a beautiful
blonde who was curvy but carried it well, cute and knew it, standing close to
him in a strapless sundress still swinging slightly around her calves.
When he’d pulled back, she’d
held the pose for a moment, lashes a shade darker than her hair resting on her
cheeks, lips slightly parted, an adorable flush rising in her cheeks. Then her
blue eyes had opened, and she again looked at him without distaste or fear, no
cringing or hesitation in her expression. “Here’s your box,” she’d murmured,
and he’d reached for the container. She’d handed it over but had stayed in
place for a moment, then an expression of regret had flashed across her
features before she’d said, “See you around.” Ricky had stood there watching as
she’d walked up the aisle away from him, turning to offer him a friendly wave
before she’d gone out of sight, the hem of her colorful, swirling skirt the
last thing he saw.
He had abandoned his cart in
the store to follow her outside, noting the make and model of her car. Then,
like the sad sack he was, he’d stalked her all the way to her house on the
outskirts of town. He had been surprised to find she didn’t live too far from
his apartment, only four blocks. Rare beauty, and so close to hand. Her house a
tiny cottage tucked in alongside family homes in a well-established
neighborhood, an oddness for the area. A generation ago it was probably used as
a mother-in-law’s residence.
Back at the clubhouse that
night, it had been hours later, and he was still turning the encounter over and
over in his mind, trying to figure out what had actually happened. It was
confusing on many levels. He didn’t get flirty anymore. Didn’t get sweet. Sure
didn’t get kissed in public exposed under the too-bright lights of a grocery
store.
One of the guys had plied him
with booze and then worked to pry the story out of him. That was when she got
her name. They already called him Brute, a plain statement of his looks but one
that held surprisingly little sting, because it wasn’t done maliciously, but
supportively. His looks didn’t matter to them, and the name they dubbed him
with was a way for them to show it. So Brute’s Girl, well, that just came
naturally.
Since then he had watched her.
He didn’t think she had caught sight of him again. Probably harbored no memory
of the gift she had given him, but oh, how he watched her.
Now, sitting at a light
alongside a girl who was horrified just by looking at him, he snorted. Sure, he
could be a fairy godfather. Right.

Lone Star Warriors Outdoors donation
announcement

Novella Sales to Raise Money for Charity Benefiting
Veterans,
deMora announced Lone Star Warriors Outdoors (LSWO)
selected for yearlong donation efforts

Author MariaLisa deMora
announced the start of a yearlong literary charity effort today. With the help
of book bloggers and related social media she intends to raise money to help
support the Lone Star Warriors Outdoors nonprofit organization in their efforts
to assist combat wounded military veterans.

“Research for a number
of my fictional characters led me to interview military veterans from all walks
of life. So many of these warriors are struggling with Traumatic Brain Injury
(TBI), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), in addition to devastating
physical injuries received while serving our country, most with minimal support
as they do so,” Ms. deMora continued. “I want to give back in a way
that will make an impact at the local level. Lone Star Warriors Outdoors is
focused on reconnecting individuals who were injured serving our country with
things they once loved: outdoors and hunting. There is an additional benefit to
bringing the warriors together for an organized excursion, because they are
provided with a priceless opportunity to bond with men who share their service
experiences. My family has a strong military history. All his life, my father
remained friends with men he’d served alongside during his 22-years in the Air
Force. I also saw the instant kinship he would find with virtually any serviceman
he encountered. There is a soul-deep camaraderie between men like that, and
Lone Star Warriors Outdoors (LSWO) recognizes and provides an environment where
that connection can thrive.”

Ms. deMora began her
self-published writing career in 2014 with the release of “Mica,” book #1 in
her Rebel Wayfarers MC (RWMC) series. Followed quickly by another several
books, this saga has inspired a spinoff series, as well as several short
stories and novellas. Her novella, “A Kiss to Keep You,” will be the foundation
of royalty-earning efforts on behalf of LSWO. With a story centered on the
struggles of a combat vet returning from overseas, the book is a natural fit
for this charitable campaign.

“I’m an advocate for paying
success forward. Or sideways. Or backwards. It’s important to me to ensure the
gifts I’ve been given are shared, in whatever fashion. During February 2016,
all royalties earned from sales of ‘Jase,’ book #4 in the RWMC series went to
support Puck Cancer, a charity that provides assistance to families dealing
with cancer diagnosis. That effort was very successful, and I’d like to build
on what I learned,” deMora said. “The tie-in for that book was that the main
character was a hockey player, which made an easy bridge from the book world to
the real one in order to help Puck Cancer. For this one, the hero is a wounded
veteran attempting to pick up the pieces of his life back home.”

For the period of one year,
half of all earnings from sales of “A Kiss to Keep You” will be donated to Lone
Star Warriors Outdoors, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization located
in Tyler, Texas, near deMora’s hometown.

“Moderately priced, ‘A Kiss
to Keep You,’ is on the long end of the novella literary form, both things that
readers enjoy. The story’s sweet happily-ever-after ending should be a hit for
readers, too,” deMora continued. “Once I had the idea, I sat down and did the
math, and saw I could swing it to donate half of all earnings for this book to
the charity for at least a year. I’m so glad that Lone Star Warriors Outdoors
will benefit from this project. It’s a great cause.”

Starting November 21, 2016, “A
Kiss to Keep You” will be sold on all popular book retail platforms including
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, Kobo, and Scribd. $2.99 per electronic
copy, $12.99 for paperback. Read more about the story at deMora’s website, www.mldemora.com.

MariaLisa deMora is a
best-selling author of eleven contemporary fiction and romance novels in three
series. Represented by MLK Publishing, her books and stories have topped
numerous categories at Amazon, and one short story has been listed in the
top-100 of its category for more than a year.

Lone Star Warriors Outdoors
mission is to say “Thank You” to our Nation’s combat Wounded and Injured
Warriors who have sacrificed mind and body in the fight on terrorism by
providing a fun and relaxing atmosphere while introducing or reconnecting and
teaching the American tradition of hunting, fishing and other outdoor
activities. Second to provide a time of mental healing or therapy by allowing
Wounded Warriors to meet others that have been in the same situation, allowing
each to talk about issues that only they understand.

When my father died I inherited the Bad News Bears of the NBA, the Seattle Stallions. To add insult to injury my ex-fiancé, Brock was the team’s star point guard.

The only reason I haven’t jumped ship yet is because prior to my father, Charlie Cohen, dying I learned he recruited a baller who was going to make the Seattle Stallions “road to hell” a lot more interesting.

Trae Rhodes

When Charlie Cohen called me and asked to return to the game, I thought he had lost his mind. He wanted me to come and play for his ‘Little Pony’s’, there was no way in hell that would happen. But when he sends me the team roster and salaries followed by an offer that was more than his star point guards, I knew there was something foul about his play.

There is nothing I liked more than a foul play that involved Brock fucking Boeheim, so I accepted his advance and gave him a promise I would be there in the fall when training started. Brock and I have history, a score to settle.

In the last two months I have done three things, fuck, get my head back in the game I love and come up with a way to get revenge on the person who took it all away to begin with, Brock.

Title: BADD MOTHERF*CKER

Series: Badd Brothers, #1

Author: Jasinda Wilder

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: October 28, 2016

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? That’s what they say, at least. I went into that day hoping I’d get the happiest day of my life. What I got? The worst. I mean, you really can’t get any worse of a day without someone actually dying.

So…I may have gotten just a little drunk, and maybe just a tad impetuous…

And landed myself in a dive bar somewhere in Alaska, alone, still in my wedding dress, half-wasted and heart-broken.

***
Eight brothers, one bar.

Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, yeah?

I kinda think so.

Wanna hear another joke? A girl walks into a bar, soaking wet and wearing a wedding dress.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. She was hammered, for one thing, and heartbroken for another. I’ve chased enough tail to know better. That kinda thing only leads to clinginess, and a clingy female is the last thing on this earth I need.

I got a bar needs running, and only me to run it—at least until my seven wayward brothers decide to show their asses up…

Then this chick walks in, fine as hell, wearing a soaked wedding dress that leaves little enough to the imagination—and I’ve got a hell of an imagination.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. Not so much as a finger, not even innocently.

But I did.

At the bar, I ordered brandy, swallowed a sip, and then took the curved stairs up to the VIP area. Men sat on dark leather sofas arranged so they overlooked the main jam-packed club area below. I found a single-seater armchair in the corner of the lounge to perch on, my back to the wall.

I never liked sitting in a room with my back exposed. I preferred to see trouble before it found me. Problems were never far away, vacation or not.

From here, I watched male dancers in nothing but jockstraps on raised, caged platforms dotted around the club, sweat and glitter making their toned bodies glisten.

After tossing back the shot, I caught the eye of a young waiter who sauntered over and took my refill order. Waiting for the drink, I took my time to survey the other people in the lounge. A group of three thirty-something-year-old men sat in the section next to mine. Two of them looked like a couple by the way they touched each other.

The third met my gaze and flashed a set of white teeth as he smiled. Arching his brow and lifting his hand, he enquired if he could come over. He was good-looking with dark- brown hair and a well-built body under the t-shirt. Even his trousers seemed to hide a reasonably-sized shaft.

I tried to picture holding the man down, kicking out his legs and taking him over the table. My cock gave an unenthusiastic twitch. I was still too tense to entertain company. With an almost imperceptible shake of my head, I dissuaded him from getting up. The man shrugged and tipped his drink in salute.

The waiter brought my refill. I took a sip and relaxed into the leather chair, welcoming the gentle alcoholic haze in my mind that stripped away my agitation. My gaze trawled, exploring every male form in sight.

Another group of men sat a few sofas away. These were younger than me, too fresh-faced to be nothing more than just barely legal. Boisterous, they talked and laughed in loud voices, drawing attention.

I spotted him and my world skewed.

The boy—he appeared more boy than man—was whispering something to the person sitting next to him, when his blond lashes lifted in a slow, teasing manner.

My heart stopped and my skin prickled. If I wasn’t usually cool under duress, I would’ve been drooling.

The lad was what? Twenty? Twenty-one? Cute as hell in a smart mint-green polo shirt and navy trousers made of expensive shiny fabric that clung to a lean body. He came across as prep-school material and looked young enough to still be in college. Face like a fucking angel, dirty blond hair that flopped over his face, and pink lips that pouted in the way fashion models did.

I had no problem picturing the gioventù on his knees, that mouth stretched around my girth.

As he rose from the sofa, his dark and huge eyes shone with mischief. One of his friends laughed and lowered his head toward the low table, a rolled note in his right hand.

Columns of white powder lined the glass-topped surface and the man leaned over, sniffing half of the line before he straightened and repeated the action with the other nostril. Finally, he tilted his head back, pinching his nose.

My lip curled down, my jaw tightened, and I averted my gaze. The drug remained illegal, but just like homosexuality, it was freely available in Exilado for the right price.

I shouldn’t begrudge the young men their vices any more than I should condemn myself for having sex with other men. Still, I couldn’t help the weight of disappointment that settled on my shoulders. I’d seen the damage addictive drugs could wreck on perfectly normal lives. I’d taken an oath to keep the toxic substances out of Vincenzo territories. San Torino wasn’t my turf and there was nothing I could do other than ignore the young men snorting the white powder.

“Can I buy you a drink?” Blond boy had ambled over and stood only inches away, his lips curled in a ten kilo-watt smile.

My gaze held captivating eyes of dark green. For a moment, I forgot my disgust at what I’d just seen the gioventù’s friend do and simply admired the specimen before me. The flawless skin, the perfect nose, and the slender body of a person on the cusp of manhood made me increasingly aware of my own increasing heart beat.

Damn. He was beautiful. I didn’t think I’d ever described another man with such a word, which reminded me exactly why the lad wasn’t my type. I liked them tougher than he looked. Not delicate. Not someone I had to worry about breaking.

“I’ve got a drink.” I gave a gruff reply and lifted my glass to my lips but I might as well have been drinking water as all my senses honed in on the person in front of me.

Undeterred, the boy lowered his body in the chair opposite and extended his hand. “I’m Carl. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

I stared at the manicured, slender fingers that didn’t look as if they’d seen a day’s labour, reinforcing the feeling Carl wasn’t for me. It didn’t stop me from picturing them stroking my skin as my cock sprang to life.

“I didn’t invite you to join me.” My tone remained cool, in contrast to the heat riding my blood.

“You didn’t.”

“I’m not interested.”

“I bet I could make you interested.” Carl leaned across and settled his hand on my thigh.

Blurb

A long time ago…

I was young and naive. I thought I could save the world. I thought that protecting those around me from hurt and pain was what I was born to do. She made me feel that way. Ava Links, the little girl who was too fucking stubborn for her own good. The little girl who absorbed the hurt and pain of everyone around her and tried to bring sunshine to them all. The little girl who didn’t give a damn if people picked on her about wearing a crown and tutu every day. A little girl who somehow looked at me, expecting—no, damn near demanding—I protect her.

I saw the pain she hid, and as I grew older, I understood that pain. The pain of being so much to so many that there is really never a “you”.

I took control of my life…

I had to get away from everyone who pulled at me in order to claim myself. When I became the man I was destined to be, I began to live. Then, one drunken night, Ava Links, no longer a little girl, said the right damn thing to me, and everything changed. After seven years of fucking her while home on leave with no expectations, now my life is out of control…

One bad dream, one I love you, one night of pushing her the hell out of my life, one drummer stealing her heart, and one explosion took everything away.

Lies are told.

Lies are unraveling.

Lies are going to destroy.

These are my truths.

Excerpt

I watch as Dad and Tessa pull away from the curb, the place where Thomas Hardy, the love of my life, smiled at me before he took his last breath. I was so sure it wasn’t his last, and I was as sure that him being on life support would eventually mean he would wake up and tell me he loved me again.

Standing erect atop the gray sidewalk is the light pole that he was crushed against, pinned between it and a car, while on his way to get me a Snickers bar that I didn’t need.

No, I need him.

I stand on the balcony and take in a calming breath. The babies are sleeping inside, freshly bathed, adorned in the cutest clothes money can buy, swaddled in their very own Bingos that I have in triplicate because my father insists I need them that way. Their bellies are full, and they have been rocked asleep in my arms.

There is no way they can actually be affected by my pain, my anger, my sadness, but I never want them to. Therefore, if I keep my grief to their sleeping hours, I know they will be okay. I close my eyes tight and pray they will be okay.

Praying. Why do I still bother?

I place my elbows on the brick overhang, peering down at that spot where black meets gray, where the love of a man and a woman got taken away in the blink of an eye.

But it’s not gone. My love. T and my love will never go away. We have a forever love.

I stand back and wrap my arms tight around myself, letting out a low groan and releasing the pain, the anger, the hate, and all the ugly in a place where I know I can, where it will not affect a soul.

The clouds use this time to part, and the sun peers through and shines down on me. Emotions come to a roiling boil in that moment, and I shut my eyes, seeing Thomas smiling back at me.

The sun … The sun is T, my T, my love and my pain.

Really, there isn’t anything I look at that doesn’t remind me of him and the insurmountable love I have for a man who loved me so much. He lied during the pregnancy so my pain wasn’t as severe, making me believe he was the father of both our children.

There are lies in love, just as much as there are truths.

A man will tell a woman he loves that she doesn’t look fat in that dress, or that she is the best he’s ever had, or that she is the most beautiful women on the planet. It may not be true, but he believes it enough to tell her those things, to make her happy and feel beautiful, and not fat, and the best he has ever had.

A man like Thomas Hardy would do that for a girl like me.

The pain of his absence is so copious it makes me sick. Sick to my stomach to the point I do throw up. My body can’t take the sickness it feels while it breathes in the air that surrounds me, in a world without T.

I slowly lower myself to my knees and cover my face as the tears spill out, the way they do when I am on this balcony that should have a rooftop garden that we grew together. A garden that grows and blooms, and comes to life, surrounded by our love.

I sit back against the brick wall as I take in the comfort of the pain’s release. I cry until I can’t anymore, and then I take a deep breath and stand up. I close my eyes once again, one last time for now, and picture him and all the beauty that is him.

Inside, I walk into the kitchen where I have moved everything back to where T had it before I moved in. I stand there and try to make sense of the way he had things put away. It’s stupid. I know it is. Somewhere deep down, though, I keep hoping he will come back, and I will want to fix it up for him.

However, he’s not coming back.

Not ever.

I take my multivitamins then force down the damn shake that Dr. Kennedy brought here after passing her in the hospital when Chance and Hope had their four-month checkup. She came to the apartment and told me I better be taking care of myself so I could take care of my children.

She oversteps in ways that are infuriating. I get angry every time I see her. Though I know I shouldn’t. I know I am directing my anger at her, but she asks for it, and it’s certainly easier than being angry at T for leaving me.

That’s another lie that happens when you love someone. Somehow in the grieving process, you get to a point when you feel betrayed by the one who left you. Like it was a choice they made.

I opened his closet one day and tore his clothes from the hangers. I threw them all over the floor. Then I turned to walk out and get a garbage bag to shove them in. When I returned, though, I saw the mess I made, and I crumbled into a pile of his things. I sobbed into his shirts that still smelled like him, like home and happiness and love.

I could never be mad at him for leaving me when it wasn’t his choice. He was taken away by some fucking drunk who stole a car and will never be punished for his crime.

Thomas Hardy loved me until his dying breath, just like he said he would, and I will love him until mine.

That day, in the closet, I cleaned everything up, put it all back where he had put it—or, at least I let myself believe I did—and I continued to cry while I did it.

Now I walk toward the laundry room, intent on doing something that involves taking care of our—yes our—children.

I flip on the light switch, but there isn’t a damn thing to do. All our clothes are clean, folded, and put away. I am thankful for the help Mom offered through the nanny, but it gives me too much free time.

Chance and Hope almost sleep through the entire night, only waking for one feeding each. They take two naps a day, each two hours long. There is hardly an occasion when one of them are asleep while the other is awake except the night time feeding.

When they are awake, I feed them, hold them, and simply love them. God, how I love them. They are my life, my love, the reason I breath, even though it hurts, and we watch TV.

Movies on TV.

Home movies.

Ones of Thomas Hardy in concert and interviews.

I walk into our room, mine and T’s, not mine and the babies, and sit on the bed that Thomas and I spent endless hours in. If I close my eyes, I can picture him here. If I concentrate, I can hear him laugh. If I let the pain go, I can smile, remembering how he took his time showing me just how much he loved me.

Until reality sets in, and the pain starts all over again.

I consider taking a shower, but then decide against it. I can sleep for nearly two hours straight if I go into the baby’s room now.

I look down as I enter, knowing if I look at the mural he painted first, I will cry. I will cry because it’s unfair that he is gone. It’s so unfair that I almost hate God. That’s why I look instead at what he left me.

He left me two beautiful children. I will always be grateful for them. Always. But would He take them, too?
