Neither This Nor That

Synopsis
Fate is a
fickle mistress. No matter a man’s desires, she tends to give with one hand,
and take with the other. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to her, as long as
there’s balance.

Ralph
Lewis, otherwise known as Po’Boy, made one decision that changed the trajectory
of his entire life. On the losing end of a schoolyard fight, he’d been on his
back in the dust, glaring up at the boy who’d flattened him. Had watched
unbelieving as that same boy stretched out his hand, offering to help Ralph to
his feet. Against every instinct, he had accepted.
In that
instant, he went from friendless pariah to having a partner and ally. For the
first time in his life, he was respected … and feared. Po’Boy spent the next
decade defending his position at his best friend’s side. Life was good. Fate
has a way of taking back the reins, though.
A
long-ago action places him directly in the crosshairs of their enemies, and
circumstances force Po’Boy’s hand. Members of motorcycle clubs, men like him
who live an outlaw’s life don’t treat kindly with traitors, and in their world,
that is what Po’Boy has become.

With
events threatening to pull him away from everything he holds dear, he’s made to
walk a careful line to keep those he loves safe. Bound by silence, for his
brothers’ sake, he’ll suffer through the worst thing that can happen to a man
who lives and breathes the brotherhood. Out Bad.

From
Chapter Five

Po’Boy opened his eyes a slit to see a figure looming over him
in the darkness. The flaring light from the bonfire was barely enough to let
him recognize an ally, Wrench. A CoBo member who had known Penny her entire
life. One who had a thing for her once, giving way when Twisted staked his
claim. Wrench was looking down at Po’Boy, and he was about to sit up and greet
him when the expression on the man’s face caught his attention.

It was avid. Hungry.

Wrench’s gaze was trailing along Po’Boy’s form, pausing at his
chest, then moving down to his crotch. His nostrils flared, and the muscles in
his jaw tensed, jumping as he ground his teeth together.

Aroused.

Po’Boy’s cock twitched, and the movement must have been
visible because he watched as Wrench’s tongue came out in a languorous swipe
across his bottom lip. What the fuck?

A sound from by the bonfire pulled Wrench’s gaze away, and he
took a step backwards, then two, before turning and stalking into the darkness.

What. The. Fuck?

Chapter
Seventeen
Po’Boy
Po’Boy waited in silence, or as much silence as he could
manage. It was hard and becoming more difficult by the second as the pressure
on his hand increased. Twisting his neck, he looked, even as he told himself
not to, and saw the balloon-like swelling of his fingers, skin stretched taut.
Purple with pooling blood, he didn’t know how much more strain his flesh could
take without bursting. For a moment he reconsidered the silent thing, because
while screaming wouldn’t help, it couldn’t hurt.
The trap was simple, and elegant. Noose around his ankle,
tight and secure, positioned where he couldn’t reach. It had been laid in a
hallway, rag rug tossed over it to conceal the presence of the rope. All it
took was him creeping through the darkness looking for Deuces, and a step in
the wrong place. Snap, the trap tripped, and he’d been dragged down the hallway
like a rabbit lure at hound races.
The one on his hand was harder to explain, but he remembered
reaching out for something, anything to slow his terrifying rush up the
hallway. Pulled to a jolting stop, his shoulder joint stretched to near
breaking, anchored to a point somewhere along the path. Once the shock wore
off, he’d looked up to see a thin wire wrapped around his hand and wrist. But
the motor pulling on his leg hadn’t stalled. Oh, no. That bitch is quality
machinery. Fuck. Hadn’t stopped and was actively pulling, whining as it worked
overtime to continue its job. The wire around his wrist was small, thin, and
looked disturbingly like a cheese slicer against his skin.
Images from text books ran through his mind, of men suspended
from ropes, tied to four horses, one for each appendage. Drawn and quartered,
but in his case he figured it was halved. The sound of the motor changed,
nearly stalling, and he hoped this meant the clutch was giving out. Fucking
finally. Then another sound rattled through the hallway, and he twisted his
head to look towards the front of the building. Standing in the opening was a
man. He wasn’t moving, was just standing there quietly. From the tilt of his
head, Po’Boy knew he was looking down at him. Not moving, not jumping to help,
not saying anything.
Not friend, then. Can’t hurt to ask. It did hurt like a
motherfucker just to lay there, so asking was where he’d head.
“Little help?” Rough and hoarse from holding quiet for so
long, Po’Boy watched as the man’s head swung back and forth, slowly. “Oh, come
on, man. You can’t be fuckin’ serious.”
“As a heart attack,” the man told him, stepping forwards and
into the light shining through a window in a room opening onto the hallway.
Slender, with long red hair pulled low on his neck into a simple queue, the man
looked like anyone you might pass on the street. Nondescript, dressed in
clothes which wouldn’t pull someone’s gaze twice. He was everybody, and nobody.
“You’re in quite the pickle, Po’Boy.”
Well, fuck. If he knows who I am, then I’m screwed. The motor
whined and stuttered, then caught, and at the resulting yank, Po’Boy felt the
cable around his hand break the skin, finally.

The Fallen by Susan Child

Lisa’s scooter breaks down, can she handle Connor’s Harley?

About Susan Child
When Susan was in high school, she never really liked to read,
but when she was a child she did. Go figure. It wasn’t until after she
graduated that she caught the reading bug. Susan had to go to a book store to
sell off her text books and a particular book caught her eye. This book stood
out from the other second-hand books because it had a pink cover. It was only a
couple of dollars, so she thought, “Why not?” But she couldn’t quite bring
herself to read her bargain book. It had a pink cover!
Then, after it tormented her for three weeks, she finally
picked it up and… could not put it down. Susan finished it in two days! After
Google-ing the author, she found that she’d written a heap of books for
Harlequin Mills & Boon as well as Single Titles.
So of course Susan had to buy all her other books! And when
she realised that there were other Mills & Boon authors out there, she just
had to search out their books, too. And she loved them!
Susan got a ton of inspiration from those books. But the most
important thing she realized was that she wanted to write those books, too. She
wanted to be a Paranormal author! Because let’s face it, who doesn’t like
things that go bump in the night?

Synopsis

Love will find a way, and for Brute and Bexley it
comes to life standing under the bright lights of a grocery store aisle. ‘A
Kiss to Keep You’ is a short, sweet, happily ever after story that you are
going to adore.

Richard Monte had it all. A satisfying career in the
military, where he took pride in serving his country. He had close friends,
good ones, and a goddaughter he doted on. His life was filled with riches, and
looked to stay that way for the foreseeable future. All of that was stripped
away in an instant, destroyed along with his face in the flash and explosion of
a roadside bomb. Struggling to find his way in a new world, one where his very
appearance is cause for fear and dismay, he stumbles upon a woman who seems to
see beyond the surface, a curvy blonde named Bexley. Her reaction to him is so
different, and she offers him an unexpected taste of beauty from her sweetly
upturned lips. They seem destined to be together, but a rising danger in a far
western state threatens everything he’s worked to build. Not without her own
demons, Bexley has to fight overwhelming odds to hold onto the man she’s come
to love.

Excerpt
From chapter one, Brute’s Girl:

Brute
He sat on his bike and
watched her. Gorgeous, reserved, she seemed unaware of her own beauty, and just
as unconscious of his regard, because she never looked up from the book held
balanced on her knees. Never raised her gaze to find him watching her. To see
the other men in the area looking their fill. Seated on the green grass of the
park, back to a tree, she rested with her heels drawn up tight to her bottom
while her skirt draped gracefully over her angled legs. With a bottle of water
lying nearby, her slouchy messenger bag was tossed to one side, phone nowhere
in sight. She had lost herself in the story, as she so often did. Blonde,
stunning, and so unattainable, especially for a man like him. She might as well
have been on the moon.
Ricky sighed and started his
bike, checking traffic before he smoothly pulled out of the lot where he had
been sitting for over an hour. The first minutes had been spent anxiously
waiting on her arrival, then the remainder, he’d been avidly watching his girl.
That was what the guys in the motorcycle club, his brothers, all called her. As
he rolled the throttle and accelerated up the street, he was already
anticipating the jeering catcalls that would greet him when he pulled into the
clubhouse. Brute’s Girl.
Gliding the bike to a stop
behind traffic, as he waited for the light to turn green, he turned his head,
glancing into the car beside him. Without thinking, he smiled fondly at the
young girl driving the aged two-door vehicle. She looked a lot like his
goddaughter, pert nose covered by freckles, untidy hair tucked behind her ears.
Seeing her made him think he needed to call Dylan, see how their Natalie was
doing in her first year of college, ask about the family. Then the girl turned
her head and saw him. Her reaction was instant and dramatic, hands slapping at
the controls on the inside of the door to lock the car, mouth falling open in
silent horror. Swiftly, he wiped the smile from his face and turned to face
forward, not wanting to make her more uncomfortable than he already had.
Richard Monte was well
acquainted with the societal challenges he had to work within, and around. He
should be, he saw evidence of them every time he looked in the mirror. Face
mangled by the roadside bomb that had taken most of his patrol, his skin in
turns was glossy smooth and cratered from the burns and shrapnel. He knew how
the barest glimpse of his countenance could affect those who were unprepared.
That was why he didn’t go out often; choosing instead to stay in his apartment,
his work-from-home job as a help desk technician was without much outside
contact. Not content, but merely pragmatic enough to recognize what it did to
him every time he provoked a reaction like this one.
The men of the Rebel
Wayfarers MC were the exception. Introduced to them by a friend, these people
judged him not by what remained of his face, but by his actions and words.
Fiercely honorable in their own way, the outlaw group of bikers had folded
themselves around him protectively, finding him a job allowing him to support
himself. Providing both independence and giving him a community of people he
could count on, no matter what.
The girl in the park, the
blonde. The beauty he would only ever be able to look at from afar. She was
another anomaly in his world. Months ago he had seen her in the grocery store,
and she had shocked him by not reacting. Well, not reacting to his face, at
least. She had reacted to him as a man, something he hadn’t experienced for
nearly a decade. Reaching for a boxed dinner, he had clumsily knocked it to the
floor, and before he could grab it, the blonde had bent over and picked it up.
Holding it behind her back, she had smiled up at him, her tone light and
playful as she had asked, “What’ll you give me for it?”
Bright blue pools looking
right at his face, smile curling her full red lips, cheeks lifted, and that
same smile making her eyes fucking dance, she had looked him in the eyes and
teased him. Exactly as a woman would do with a man she found attractive.
Without hesitation, he’d answered as he would have before the injury, boldly
stating the cost. Two words shaping his desires. “A kiss.”
Immediately, she’d responded,
“Deal,” and leaned forward, lifting her chin. Standing there in the grocery
store aisle, he had bent slightly, pressing his lips in a brief, soft,
closed-mouthed kiss to raspberry-flavored ones. Lips belonging to a beautiful
blonde who was curvy but carried it well, cute and knew it, standing close to
him in a strapless sundress still swinging slightly around her calves.
When he’d pulled back, she’d
held the pose for a moment, lashes a shade darker than her hair resting on her
cheeks, lips slightly parted, an adorable flush rising in her cheeks. Then her
blue eyes had opened, and she again looked at him without distaste or fear, no
cringing or hesitation in her expression. “Here’s your box,” she’d murmured,
and he’d reached for the container. She’d handed it over but had stayed in
place for a moment, then an expression of regret had flashed across her
features before she’d said, “See you around.” Ricky had stood there watching as
she’d walked up the aisle away from him, turning to offer him a friendly wave
before she’d gone out of sight, the hem of her colorful, swirling skirt the
last thing he saw.
He had abandoned his cart in
the store to follow her outside, noting the make and model of her car. Then,
like the sad sack he was, he’d stalked her all the way to her house on the
outskirts of town. He had been surprised to find she didn’t live too far from
his apartment, only four blocks. Rare beauty, and so close to hand. Her house a
tiny cottage tucked in alongside family homes in a well-established
neighborhood, an oddness for the area. A generation ago it was probably used as
a mother-in-law’s residence.
Back at the clubhouse that
night, it had been hours later, and he was still turning the encounter over and
over in his mind, trying to figure out what had actually happened. It was
confusing on many levels. He didn’t get flirty anymore. Didn’t get sweet. Sure
didn’t get kissed in public exposed under the too-bright lights of a grocery
store.
One of the guys had plied him
with booze and then worked to pry the story out of him. That was when she got
her name. They already called him Brute, a plain statement of his looks but one
that held surprisingly little sting, because it wasn’t done maliciously, but
supportively. His looks didn’t matter to them, and the name they dubbed him
with was a way for them to show it. So Brute’s Girl, well, that just came
naturally.
Since then he had watched her.
He didn’t think she had caught sight of him again. Probably harbored no memory
of the gift she had given him, but oh, how he watched her.
Now, sitting at a light
alongside a girl who was horrified just by looking at him, he snorted. Sure, he
could be a fairy godfather. Right.

Lone Star Warriors Outdoors donation
announcement

Novella Sales to Raise Money for Charity Benefiting
Veterans,
deMora announced Lone Star Warriors Outdoors (LSWO)
selected for yearlong donation efforts

Author MariaLisa deMora
announced the start of a yearlong literary charity effort today. With the help
of book bloggers and related social media she intends to raise money to help
support the Lone Star Warriors Outdoors nonprofit organization in their efforts
to assist combat wounded military veterans.

“Research for a number
of my fictional characters led me to interview military veterans from all walks
of life. So many of these warriors are struggling with Traumatic Brain Injury
(TBI), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), in addition to devastating
physical injuries received while serving our country, most with minimal support
as they do so,” Ms. deMora continued. “I want to give back in a way
that will make an impact at the local level. Lone Star Warriors Outdoors is
focused on reconnecting individuals who were injured serving our country with
things they once loved: outdoors and hunting. There is an additional benefit to
bringing the warriors together for an organized excursion, because they are
provided with a priceless opportunity to bond with men who share their service
experiences. My family has a strong military history. All his life, my father
remained friends with men he’d served alongside during his 22-years in the Air
Force. I also saw the instant kinship he would find with virtually any serviceman
he encountered. There is a soul-deep camaraderie between men like that, and
Lone Star Warriors Outdoors (LSWO) recognizes and provides an environment where
that connection can thrive.”

Ms. deMora began her
self-published writing career in 2014 with the release of “Mica,” book #1 in
her Rebel Wayfarers MC (RWMC) series. Followed quickly by another several
books, this saga has inspired a spinoff series, as well as several short
stories and novellas. Her novella, “A Kiss to Keep You,” will be the foundation
of royalty-earning efforts on behalf of LSWO. With a story centered on the
struggles of a combat vet returning from overseas, the book is a natural fit
for this charitable campaign.

“I’m an advocate for paying
success forward. Or sideways. Or backwards. It’s important to me to ensure the
gifts I’ve been given are shared, in whatever fashion. During February 2016,
all royalties earned from sales of ‘Jase,’ book #4 in the RWMC series went to
support Puck Cancer, a charity that provides assistance to families dealing
with cancer diagnosis. That effort was very successful, and I’d like to build
on what I learned,” deMora said. “The tie-in for that book was that the main
character was a hockey player, which made an easy bridge from the book world to
the real one in order to help Puck Cancer. For this one, the hero is a wounded
veteran attempting to pick up the pieces of his life back home.”

For the period of one year,
half of all earnings from sales of “A Kiss to Keep You” will be donated to Lone
Star Warriors Outdoors, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization located
in Tyler, Texas, near deMora’s hometown.

“Moderately priced, ‘A Kiss
to Keep You,’ is on the long end of the novella literary form, both things that
readers enjoy. The story’s sweet happily-ever-after ending should be a hit for
readers, too,” deMora continued. “Once I had the idea, I sat down and did the
math, and saw I could swing it to donate half of all earnings for this book to
the charity for at least a year. I’m so glad that Lone Star Warriors Outdoors
will benefit from this project. It’s a great cause.”

Starting November 21, 2016, “A
Kiss to Keep You” will be sold on all popular book retail platforms including
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, Kobo, and Scribd. $2.99 per electronic
copy, $12.99 for paperback. Read more about the story at deMora’s website, www.mldemora.com.

MariaLisa deMora is a
best-selling author of eleven contemporary fiction and romance novels in three
series. Represented by MLK Publishing, her books and stories have topped
numerous categories at Amazon, and one short story has been listed in the
top-100 of its category for more than a year.

Lone Star Warriors Outdoors
mission is to say “Thank You” to our Nation’s combat Wounded and Injured
Warriors who have sacrificed mind and body in the fight on terrorism by
providing a fun and relaxing atmosphere while introducing or reconnecting and
teaching the American tradition of hunting, fishing and other outdoor
activities. Second to provide a time of mental healing or therapy by allowing
Wounded Warriors to meet others that have been in the same situation, allowing
each to talk about issues that only they understand.

bluegrass, rap, hip hop … you name it, I listen to it. I can often be seen
dancing through the house in the early mornings. But I really, REALLY love live
music. My favorite thing with music is seeing bands in small, dive bars [read:

Hoss (Rebel Wayfarers MC #7) Cover Reveal

Hoss Full cover

Synopsis:

Isaiah Rogers grew up on his family farm in Alabama. Loved by his family, he’s a country boy at heart, a southern gentleman by raising.

The path to northern Indiana was twisted and long, but this sensitive man found a comfortable niche as a member of the Rebel Wayfarers, vice-president of their affluent and growing Fort Wayne chapter. Hoss, as he’s now known, retains pieces of the boy from rural Alabama, but life in the club has hardened him, driving home the message time and again that love isn’t safe.

Hope Collins also grew up in Alabama, but their histories could not be more different.

An ill-timed youthful rebellion came with long-lasting consequences. It’s then she finds she’s not an only child after all, her father holding up her half-sister’s failures as a painful lesson before closing the door of her childhood home in her face.

Hoss and Hope’s paths collide when she travels to Fort Wayne, to meet the sister she had gone most of her life without knowing about. For Hoss, from the first moment he laid eyes on Hope, the truth and beauty inside her called to him. Now he will have to find a way to win the woman’s trust and love, while navigating the dangerous currents swirling around the club.

Author Bio

Raised in the south, MariaLisa learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says “I’ve always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading … if nothing else is available, I’ve been known to read the back of the cereal box.”

A hockey fan, hiker, gamer, and single mom of a special needs son, she embraces her inner geek and has been working in the tech field for a publishing company for a couple decades.

Music is a driving passion, and she says, “I love music of nearly any genre — jazz, country, rock, alt rock, metal, classical, bluegrass, rap, hip hop … you name it, I listen to it. I can often be seen dancing through the house in the early mornings. But I really, REALLY love live music. My favorite thing with music is seeing bands in small, dive bars [read: small, intimate venues]. If said bar [venue] has a good selection of premium tequila, then that’s a plus!”

Jase By MariaLisa deMora ♥ Blog Tour

MeetJase Spencer.

He’s just your everyday kinda guy, a hard-

partying, hard-living professional hockey player. Nothin’ special.

Good-looking and ripped, the man has moves, on and off the ice. But, he’s also jaded and alone, and tired of living out of suitcases.

For as long as he can remember, hockey has ruled his life. He’s chased pucks across more than a dozen countries, and had his pick of women in any town he visits.

Then he met HER. And now, he’s about to turn his life upside down because of HER. Because he can’t get the one night of passion he shared with a smokin’ hot biker babe out of his head. Unfortunately, DeeDee wasn’t interested in anything long term, and she’s gone before he’s ready.

Life becomes complicated and difficult when Jase is traded to another team, and as he tries to settle in his new hometown, everything seems to conspire against him, determined to go wrong.

Dancing around their mutual attraction, one day he and DeeDee find themselves face-to-face and body-to-body, but will they be able to set aside their past pain and focus on the future they could make together? Can he make her reconsider her relationship fears and trust him?

Jase is on a mission to show her what they have together is worth fighting for, to convince her to take a chance on him. His attempts will bring him squarely into the path of a motorcycle club, earning him the attention of Mason, president of the Rebel Wayfarers MC.

Jase says, “Bring it on.”

From chapter 10, Broken things
“DeeDee, wait,” he called as he ran to catch up with her, settling into a fast walk beside her as they moved across the lot towards fan parking in the front. “Wait,” he said again, reaching out a hand to touch her arm. She stopped so suddenly he stumbled and had to turn around, having passed her with his long, hurried strides.
“Hey,” he said softly. Looking into her face, he saw the glint of tears on her lashes and his heart clenched. Blinking furiously, she swallowed and lifted her chin, meeting his gaze straight on.
“Hi, Jase,” she said cheerfully, as if she hadn’t just been about to cry.
He took a long look, drinking his fill of her. He hadn’t seen her in six weeks. Six long weeks, and Jase saw she had lost back the little bit of weight she gained when they were together. He thought she looked too skinny again, beginning to lose the soft curves he loved. Arms crossed over her chest, she had her fingers tightly wrapped around her biceps, the tension in her hands giving lie to the smile on her face. He lifted a hand to stroke her cheek and she stepped back, out of reach, her reaction twisting his heart in his chest again. What? She can’t even stand my hands on her now?
“You came to the game?” He didn’t know what else to say, what to ask. He knew what he wanted: he wanted her to come home with him, let him wrap her up…let him love her. His mouth was full of those words, his tongue frozen with fear. God, just having her this close was good, and he didn’t want to do anything to send her running again.
“Yeah, the radio station gave me some tickets for advertising the club.” Smiling politely, she took another step back and to the side, trying to shift around him but he moved with her.
“Oh, promo tickets. Nice. Were they decent seats?” Doesn’t she know I’d get her tickets to every game if she wanted? He should do that anyway, have them at the ticket office for every home game. That way he would know by looking if she was in the arena.
“Yeah, on the glass behind home net. You played a lot.” The first hint of a real smile crossed her face. “You look good.”
“The team seems to suit me,” he agreed. “You look good too, baby.” Crap, he thought when he saw her flinch as if slapped when the endearment slipped out. Don’t do that again, man.
“It’s good to see you, Jase,” she said, stepping back again. Clearly preparing to leave, she shifted further around him and he turned to track her movements.
“DeeDee,” he was frantic now to keep her talking, keep her here…keep her. Casting around for a topic, he latched onto the most recent thing he knew had happened in her life. “How’s Ruby?” There, look at that; her real smile is back. He relaxed minutely. I picked a good topic.
“She’s good. Seems recovered from everything. Things could have gone a different way, so we’re all glad she’s better.” Her gaze dipped then rose again, “Slate loves her.”
“Yeah, he does, eh?” He smiled, thinking about how crazy Slate was for Ruby. “It’s still a good thing between them, eh?”
She laughed, and his breath caught in his throat at the sound, bright, clear, and mirthful, so…her. “Well, Ruby’s happy, and that’s all I care about. I love seeing her smile again. You don’t know what she was like before the accident, but this is as close to that as she’s been for years.” She looked wistful, and Jase was thrown off balance that he hadn’t been with her to see all of this as it happened. He would love to be there every day. His heart twisted again and he frowned, thinking, I do still love her. I love her.
“So, how’s work?” Yeah, you’re officially floundering for conversation starters now. Next would be the weather. He groaned silently.
“Work is about the same.” She flashed him a grin. “Mercy asks about you sometimes. Said you were the shyest guy she had ever seen in a strip club. I have a new girl auditioning in a couple of weeks; she’s coming up from Florida. It’s nice. Really nice, because, for a change, everything is running smoothly, which kinda makes me want to find some wood to knock on so I don’t jinx myself.”
“Mercy’s a jackass,” he grumbled, grinning. Leaning over, he offered his head. “Here’s my thick head; you can knock on that. It’s as good as wooden.” He held the pose, looking down to watch her legs and feet, and he saw them angle as she leaned forward a second before her hand settled on his head. Her fingers delicately threaded through his hair to the back of his neck, tracing the skin there softly. Then he lost the heat of her hand as she made a fist and gently rapped her knuckles on top of his head.
Straightening slowly, he caught a look of pain on her face before she smoothed it away, plastering that damn fake smile back on. “There you go,” he said softly. “Crisis averted. You are officially un-jinxed.” Her smile faded, and an uncertain look took its place, making her look open and vulnerable. She opened her mouth to say something, when the loud clicking of heels came from across the lot behind him. Her eyes darted over his shoulder, and with a slam he could almost hear, the shutters drew across her features again.

“I have to go. It was good to see you, Jase.” She turned on her heel and walked away.
Raised in the south, MariaLisa learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says “I’ve always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading … if nothing else is available, I’ve been known to read the back of the cereal box.” She still reads voraciously, and always has a few books going in paperback, hardback, on devices, on napkins!

Oatmeal is her comfort food. She hates gardening but loves flowers; not cut arrangements, but in the wild, outside. She has a deep and abiding respect for our military. Her dad was career Air Force, and flew during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Parades make her cry. Walking Dead is about the only TV she watches anymore, don’t bother her on Walking Dead night, when she’s been known to shout, “Go Team Darryl!” Yes, she’s still sad about Firefly.

She’s a hockey fan, like … a serious hockey fan. She’s loyal to the Edmonton Oilers, but asks that we don’t judge her about that. She also likes the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators. The local ECHL team, the Fort Wayne Komets, are a fav of hers, and she has season tickets. She’ll also generally try to hit the road games within a hundred-mile radius.

She’s a wanna-be hiker, working on a “bucket list” of hikes like Knobstone (completed in four days mid-April 2014 – whoooo!), sectioning parts of the AT (51 miles in Georgia in early-May 2014), and now and then looking west towards PCT.

She embraces her inner geek; MariaLisa has been working in the tech field for a couple decades. A sometime PC gamer, she still plays EverQuest after all these years. She says, “What can I say, I’m loyal (see above, I’m an Oilers fan LOL). Yes, I’ve heard of WoW, and have a coupla toons there, too.”

On music, she says, “I love music of nearly any kind—jazz, country, rock, alt rock, metal, classical, bluegrass, rap, gangstergrass, hip hop—you name the type, I probably listen to it. I can often be seen dancing through the house in the early mornings. But what I really, REALLY love is live music. My favorite way to experience live music is seeing bands in small, dive bars [read: small, intimate venues]. If said bar [venue] has a good selection of premium tequila, then that’s a definite plus!”
