Neither This Nor That

Synopsis
Fate is a
fickle mistress. No matter a man’s desires, she tends to give with one hand,
and take with the other. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to her, as long as
there’s balance.

Ralph
Lewis, otherwise known as Po’Boy, made one decision that changed the trajectory
of his entire life. On the losing end of a schoolyard fight, he’d been on his
back in the dust, glaring up at the boy who’d flattened him. Had watched
unbelieving as that same boy stretched out his hand, offering to help Ralph to
his feet. Against every instinct, he had accepted.
In that
instant, he went from friendless pariah to having a partner and ally. For the
first time in his life, he was respected … and feared. Po’Boy spent the next
decade defending his position at his best friend’s side. Life was good. Fate
has a way of taking back the reins, though.
A
long-ago action places him directly in the crosshairs of their enemies, and
circumstances force Po’Boy’s hand. Members of motorcycle clubs, men like him
who live an outlaw’s life don’t treat kindly with traitors, and in their world,
that is what Po’Boy has become.

With
events threatening to pull him away from everything he holds dear, he’s made to
walk a careful line to keep those he loves safe. Bound by silence, for his
brothers’ sake, he’ll suffer through the worst thing that can happen to a man
who lives and breathes the brotherhood. Out Bad.

From
Chapter Five

Po’Boy opened his eyes a slit to see a figure looming over him
in the darkness. The flaring light from the bonfire was barely enough to let
him recognize an ally, Wrench. A CoBo member who had known Penny her entire
life. One who had a thing for her once, giving way when Twisted staked his
claim. Wrench was looking down at Po’Boy, and he was about to sit up and greet
him when the expression on the man’s face caught his attention.

It was avid. Hungry.

Wrench’s gaze was trailing along Po’Boy’s form, pausing at his
chest, then moving down to his crotch. His nostrils flared, and the muscles in
his jaw tensed, jumping as he ground his teeth together.

Aroused.

Po’Boy’s cock twitched, and the movement must have been
visible because he watched as Wrench’s tongue came out in a languorous swipe
across his bottom lip. What the fuck?

A sound from by the bonfire pulled Wrench’s gaze away, and he
took a step backwards, then two, before turning and stalking into the darkness.

What. The. Fuck?

Po’Boy
Po’Boy waited in silence, or as much silence as he could
manage. It was hard and becoming more difficult by the second as the pressure
on his hand increased. Twisting his neck, he looked, even as he told himself
not to, and saw the balloon-like swelling of his fingers, skin stretched taut.
Purple with pooling blood, he didn’t know how much more strain his flesh could
take without bursting. For a moment he reconsidered the silent thing, because
while screaming wouldn’t help, it couldn’t hurt.
The trap was simple, and elegant. Noose around his ankle,
tight and secure, positioned where he couldn’t reach. It had been laid in a
hallway, rag rug tossed over it to conceal the presence of the rope. All it
took was him creeping through the darkness looking for Deuces, and a step in
the wrong place. Snap, the trap tripped, and he’d been dragged down the hallway
like a rabbit lure at hound races.
The one on his hand was harder to explain, but he remembered
reaching out for something, anything to slow his terrifying rush up the
hallway. Pulled to a jolting stop, his shoulder joint stretched to near
breaking, anchored to a point somewhere along the path. Once the shock wore
off, he’d looked up to see a thin wire wrapped around his hand and wrist. But
the motor pulling on his leg hadn’t stalled. Oh, no. That bitch is quality
machinery. Fuck. Hadn’t stopped and was actively pulling, whining as it worked
overtime to continue its job. The wire around his wrist was small, thin, and
looked disturbingly like a cheese slicer against his skin.
Images from text books ran through his mind, of men suspended
from ropes, tied to four horses, one for each appendage. Drawn and quartered,
but in his case he figured it was halved. The sound of the motor changed,
nearly stalling, and he hoped this meant the clutch was giving out. Fucking
finally. Then another sound rattled through the hallway, and he twisted his
head to look towards the front of the building. Standing in the opening was a
man. He wasn’t moving, was just standing there quietly. From the tilt of his
head, Po’Boy knew he was looking down at him. Not moving, not jumping to help,
not saying anything.
Not friend, then. Can’t hurt to ask. It did hurt like a
motherfucker just to lay there, so asking was where he’d head.
“Little help?” Rough and hoarse from holding quiet for so
long, Po’Boy watched as the man’s head swung back and forth, slowly. “Oh, come
on, man. You can’t be fuckin’ serious.”
“As a heart attack,” the man told him, stepping forwards and
into the light shining through a window in a room opening onto the hallway.
Slender, with long red hair pulled low on his neck into a simple queue, the man
looked like anyone you might pass on the street. Nondescript, dressed in
clothes which wouldn’t pull someone’s gaze twice. He was everybody, and nobody.
“You’re in quite the pickle, Po’Boy.”
Well, fuck. If he knows who I am, then I’m screwed. The motor
whined and stuttered, then caught, and at the resulting yank, Po’Boy felt the
cable around his hand break the skin, finally.

Twisted.eBook

Legends are born from moments like these. Folktales spun around a single point in time so perfect, you can almost hear the click resonating through the universe as things align.

George Bell, aka Twisted, knows the odds are against him. Have been all his life. Born in a Louisiana bordello, raised around the rough and rowdy men of a motorcycle club, he’s never been the lucky type. But he believes luck can change, so when fate gives him a glimpse of breathtaking beauty, he’s more than willing to roll the dice. Chancing upon what could be the woman of his dreams, he’s prepared to push this streak as far as he can.

Penny Dane’s background gives her an edge in the life she’s chosen to lead. Raised in a can-do family, she’s resilient, rolling with life’s punches and landing on her feet. But, when the past holds painful secrets—when a single misstep can turn deadly—can she trust the passion this man stirs in her?

On the surface, Bell and Penny don’t work. Their mismatched worlds are too different. But like a backwater bayou, what you see is not the whole story, there are mysteries buried underneath. Penny is the red-haired beauty caught up in a web of lies. Bell is like no one she’s ever met before. The problem is, he knows it.

Chrissy
Franco has every reason to take one hell of a victory lap around the courtroom.
She’s just defended her client to the best of her ability and what’s more? Her
client was actually innocent. Oh, she’d killed her husband, baseball legend
Skip Maguire, alright; but he’d been about to hit a homerun with Miranda’s
head.

His rabid
fan base doesn’t agree with the verdict, and they’ve set their sights on
Chrissy as the one to blame. One of them is about to set into motion a
dangerous game when he publishes poor Chrissy’s address online…

Enter
Tony McCormick, a detective with the right kind of attitude and Chrissy’s sort
of ex-boyfriend. When he’s called to Chrissy’s apartment, he’s prepared for the
worst. He’s a homicide detective after all. When he arrives, it seems that
someone might have forgotten to check to see if Chrissy was still alive… now
it’s everything he can do to find the man who did this and the other behind it
all before it’s really too late.

Her Thin Blue Lifeline 1

“Homicide.”

“Yeah, Tony, got a couple of fresh ones at two-two-one-six,
east 53rd; apartment two-oh-six. You’re up.”
I finished scribbling the address he’d given me on a legal
pad in front of me saying, “I think this damn city has had enough with the
baseball references, Captain.”
“Yeah, whatever, get your ass over there, this city has had
enough with the homicides lately, too.”
“You ain’t lying; I’m on it.”
I tossed the receiver back onto its cradle with a clatter. I
sat up from where I’d been hunched over my desk and rubbed the back of my neck,
giving myself at least enough time to indulge in a stretch before getting up. I
picked up the pad of paper, my eyes roving over the address as it tickled the
back of my brain.
I knew it, but couldn’t place it. Something about all those
twos and sixes was just niggling at me in the worst way but I figured I’d see
it soon enough. I needed to get over there before the bodies got cold. Before
the medical examiner got any kind of time with them. It helped to see the scene
before anything was touched or moved.
I got up and hauled ass, heading down to the garage and my
assigned cruiser. It was a short drive from the 12th precinct to the
apartment’s address and there was plenty of parking in among the black and
whites with their party lights that were already there. Hell, the coroner’s van
wasn’t even here yet. Just a couple of uniformed units. Lucky me. I double
parked and then it clicked… this was Chrissy’s place. She was a lawyer, a
defense attorney that I’d taken out a couple of times. We were like ships
passing in the night schedule wise, and after the fourth interrupted date, we
had pretty much come to the conclusion that it was nice, but it wasn’t going to
happen.
That’d been over three years ago, pushing four; I’d always
sort of wondered if our paths would cross again. I never imagined it might be
on a homicide call in her building, that is, if she still even lived here. Who
was I kidding? I knew, deep in my gut from the minute I’d pulled up it was the
feisty lawyer’s apartment I was headed to.
“Well you can definitely say there were signs of forced
entry, huh detective?” a uniform, Johns by the nametag on his chest, said as I
stepped carefully over the shattered debris that’d been Chrissy Franco’s
doorframe and lock.
“Jesus Christ,” I muttered taking in the raw scene.
There was a blonde, draped back over the arm of the couch, a
movie-perfect shot through her fuckin’ forehead, right between the eyes. I
walked carefully up to the second body and leaned down over my knees.
“Yeah, that’s Chrissy Franco, alright,” I said, heart heavy
in the center of my chest. Regret weighed me down like a thousand pound boulder
in the center of my chest. She was beautiful, even like this, body cooling on
the floor. If ever there had been one that’d got away, it was Chrissy. I’d
thought about her a lot in the intervening years since I’d last seen her. I’d
even caught myself lingering in the corridors of the courthouse on the
occasions I’d had to be there. Hoping to run into her, hoping to rekindle
things; that she might happen to be single, maybe willing to give it a shot
again… This was a-fucking-shame, and I was gutted that it had to be me to catch
the call.
Damnit.
I pulled on a pair of gloves and went to trace some of her
long dark hair away from the side of her face so I could get a better look at
her when she gasped.
I nearly shot through the fuckin’ roof.
“Call a bus!” I screamed and knelt down amid the broken glass
and spilled wine, the sweet smell of alcohol and coppery tang of blood singeing
my nose even as hope filled me up like a helium goddamn balloon.
“H-he-help me,” she stammered out and I took her hand.
“Ambulance is on the way, just hang on, baby.”
“Tony?”
“Yeah, yeah, you remember me?”
“It hurts!” her tone was mournful, pain filled, and I
deflated a little on the inside, but I wasn’t willing to show it. Confidence,
surety, that’s what she needed right now.
Shit. Both of those things were the last things I was feeling
right now. I wasn’t used to live victims, especially not ones I’d had the
occasional date with. I couldn’t fucking help her except to wait for paramedics
and I hated it. I glared at the uniform who was spewing panicked words into the
mic at his shoulder.
“Didn’t you check to see if she was a-fuckin’-live!?” I
demanded, needing to direct my helpless anger somewhere.
“I mean, who gives a shit, man? I didn’t know! Just look at
her!” he shouted and I swore I was gonna have a quiet conversation with him and
his CO later, whether or not she lived or died. That shit wasn’t right. You
didn’t get to pick the vic. I strapped down my incendiary rage at the comment
and stroked her hand, giving my attention to the wounded woman on the floor,
the person that needed it most.
“Hang on, Chrissy, we’re gonna get you some help.” She
squeezed my hand and I could swear my heart squeezed down with it, a tight ball
of sympathy for her pain.
Nobody deserved this shit. To have someone break down your
door; shoot you up, and for what? I thought about it. About the uproar over the
Maguire case, it was the likeliest conclusion based on what I knew so far…
Because you did your job?
“Just hang on for me, baby. Stay with me…”
Rattled didn’t even begin to cover how I felt about this one.

Rush had
always been the brother that was the most up for adventure. Then
Grinder died and he realized that it was time to slow down. Fast-forward by a
year and more and his older brother Archer had found Mel. Hell, his own twin
was with a woman of his own! Rush is starting to get restless again, which was just
perfect. Cue a string of anonymous hook-ups and one night stands. It was enough
to feed the restlessness for a while, then an adventure of sorts came a callin’
by way of the VP’s estranged aunt and the President’s sister-in-law.
Her
daughter was in need of some kind of white knight, which Rush could care less
about, but the white knight routine did come with a pretty big perk.
It would mean that he got to go back to a job that had, once upon a time, felt
like a calling.
Of
course, nothing was ever easy where Rush was concerned, especially when he
actually set eyes on the damsel in distress. One, she wasn’t some paper
princess, and two, she definitely didn’t want him around. After all, one-night
hook-ups were supposed to be just that… one and done.

to Brother: The Sacred Brotherhood Book I

Melody Beswick thought she was
bringing herself and her thirteen month old son home to his father. It was her
last ditch effort to make a better life for her and her boy. One in which Noah
had a father to look up to and guide him. While she knew Grinder wasn’t perfect,
she believed in him, and love always found a way, right?
Melody never thought her dreams for herself and her son could twist into such
nightmares, and that it was so true, the old adage, that the road to hell is
paved with good intentions. She’s about to find out that another adage is true,
that sometimes it’s better the devil you know, when instead of finding Grinder,
it’s his cold and critical brother Archer at the end of her long drive that she
must contend with.

With no other options, and no place else to go, Melody is about to make a deal
with this devil that she can’t refuse. Who knew it could, quite possibly, be
the best decision she’s ever made?

I turned around and went into the bathroom to brush my teeth
and put my hair into a braid over my shoulder, listening to the vacuum run
downstairs as Nox cleaned up his and my brother’s disaster area. Truthfully, I
didn’t mind the mess. Especially when Sage seemed almost happy when I’d come
home. Equally, as honestly, I was grateful that Nox was cleaning it up. I just
didn’t have the energy; I was so deeply mentally, and emotionally, exhausted.
I shut off the tap after spitting a final time and rinsed my
brush to total silence in the house. When I stood up, I jumped and clapped my
hands over my mouth to keep from screaming. Nox frowned at me from over my
shoulder in the bathroom mirror.
“Jesus, Angel,” he whispered. “He’s got you jumping at
everything.”
“I’m sorry,” I muttered quietly, lowering my hands from my
mouth and smoothing over my nightgown. Nox raised an eyebrow, noticing it for
the first time. It was black satin and ankle length, clinging to what curves I
had, with lace panels just beneath my breasts, along the ribs. Not exactly
something I advertise, but I liked to wear nice things to bed. I just usually
had a robe on over them. My scruffy, fluffy bathrobe hung on the back of the
door, just inside my reach. I tended to have water drip down my arm when I
brushed and when it caught the edge of my sleeve, I hated that. It was like
tiny wet kisses against my wrist from Satan with how much I detested it.
“I like this,” Nox said softly, and his eyes, for as pale as
they were, went dark with a hunger that had nothing to do with food.
I swallowed hard and whispered, “Pumpkins, remember?”
“I do,” he murmured back, but that didn’t stop him from
capturing my hand with his and drawing me closer. He lifted my hand to his
mouth and turned it, placing his lips softly to the inside of my wrist.
“Everything is cleaned up, downstairs.”
“Thank you,” I murmured, throat tight with the urge I had to
just pull myself the rest of the way into his arms and put my lips up against
his. The struggle was absolutely real, and I could tell it was for both of us.
What I couldn’t tell was if that made things easier or if that made things just
that much
harder.
“Come on, let an old man tuck you in,” he said, teasing.
“You’re not old,” I murmured and took the last step into his
personal space. His hands smoothed over the satin over my hips and he closed
his eyes as if committing the feeling of me beneath them to memory.

Fate introduces people at both
the right and the wrong times…
So it is for Maren on the
absolute worst day imaginable. When all hope was gone, and she was whittled
away to little more than tears and despair, up walks Nox, an unlikely hero to
save the day. Maren is about to discover that sometimes the good guys wear
black, and there are times that the lines between good and evil blur beyond
recognition.
Nox is a bad man with a heart of
gold, or so it seems. It also seems that Maren has captured that heart with her
wide, tear filled brown eyes. Nox never saw himself going for jailbait before,
but that’s just what Maren is, all woman trapped in a seventeen year old package.
Still, what he wouldn’t do for her, including taking on the unlikely role of
keeper to her unruly preteen brother.

This mess could end beautifully
or in some serious time spent behind bars for Nox, but sometimes, it’s worth
risking it all.

In The Series

I have been an avid reader for most of my life. When I
was younger I use to sit and fill spiral notebooks full of stories for my
grandmother. As I got older I took the jobs needed for raising my boys as a
single mom until I met my now amazing husband. I have stopped working in the
last three years and started promoting authors, then I blogged and reviewed for
authors, which lead me down the path to writing and creating characters and
stories. I love creating behind the scenes with my writing getting to use my
imagination and write the story as it comes to me. My youngest is now a senior
in High School leaving me with some spare time on my hands to be filled. I am
loving the people I am meeting and the support system I have found.
