Synopsis

The door? Was that what I had just heard? Instinctively, I
reached my arm out to feel for her, but I found myself alone in the middle of
the bed. I jerked up in surprise and looked around the room. There were two
dirty wine glasses and an empty bottle of wine on the floor. The covers were
hanging off the side of the bed, and the pillows were neatly piled on top of
one another occupying the space where she had slept.
“Anna!” I yelled. No. She couldn’t have left me. Why did she
leave?
Frantically, I sprang out of bed and pulled my jeans on. I
didn’t care that all I had on was a t-shirt as I ran out the door and flew down
the five flights of stairs to the main entrance. My feet felt numb against the
freshly fallen snow, but I felt no pain. I had to find her. I ran down the
sidewalk until I spotted her walking on the opposite side of the road, head
down, shoulders hunched, one hand holding her hat onto her head.
“Anna! Anna, wait!” I shouted at the top of my lungs.
She stopped when she saw that it was me. I ran across the
road as fast as my frozen feet would take me. The neighborhood was slowly
waking up, people were just about to start their day.
And as we faced each other, I knew that I would live out my
days with her. I wanted to touch her but didn’t want to scare her off any
further. The snow began to fall lightly. Dance with me, I wanted to say. Who
cares if the rain has frozen into snow? The music in our hearts will warm it
right up.
“Where are your shoes?” she asked, one hand still on her
head, the other in her coat pocket. The morning wind was biting; it stuck to
the skin, sharp little pins all over your body.
“It doesn’t matter. Why did you leave? Why are you leaving
me?” I tried to form the words in my mouth while trying to stop my teeth from
chattering.

She never imagined that her words would touch the hearts of so many women with the same story to tell. Her second book, His Wounded Light was released in December, 2013.

I stroked his hair, waist deep in peace, all worry gone for the moment, and floating in no more than an ocean of gratitude. I must have been more vulnerable than I realized, or he’d reopened some wound with his kindness, because though my sweet reverie stayed, as the minutes passed, a layer of need fitted itself on top of it.

I needed to tell him, if not the details, the outlines of who I was.

“I want you to know,” I whispered, starting somewhere small, then everything I didn’t want to say spilled out. “I have stuff. I’ve never been to jail, but you know, it’s stuff, and it’s ugly, and it scares me. Because, I mean, you’re so perfect, and I’m… I’m just a mess. I’m not whole. I wanted a change from what I had been reading and decided to go with the time of year it is, where everyone is looking for the dark and mysterious. This is the second read from Ella Franks I have taken on as an ARC and have to say that I am yet to be disappointed.

Alasdair is the sire of one of the accident known as Vasilios. Alasdair is fear by many because of his ruthlessness and fearless outlook on things.

Alasdair is extremely choosey when it comes to who he is with even though he has so trouble with enjoying the flesh. Then one night his is drawn to Leo, not able to let the attraction to him go, Alasdair begins the hunt.  Alasdair having desire that he has never felt before knowing this is desire that is forbidden. He refuses to give up till he has a taste of what he wants. Even though the taste he carves could take his life.

You talk about one very hot book. So many alpha’s and so much sexual tension this book is a must read. Alasdair alone will light this book on fire, one minute you’re going to be in love with him and the next you’re going to want to rip his head off. Leo is the history geek that you just have to love and want to protect. Just as you think that Alasdair and Leo will get their chance something or someone is put in their path. Yes there is a cliffhanger that is so well placed you will be screaming that it can’t stop there. This is one read that is going to be place on my favorites for the year!! Looking forward to the next chapter in this story.

Leaning forward, so my face is only inches from hers, I say, “I can see that.” Her pupils dilate and I hear her breath hitch. I immediately know my effect on her hasn’t diminished either. It takes everything in me not to pull her into my arms and squeeze the fucking life out of her. Why did I leave it so long to see her? Just being near her again, makes me feel alive. “It’s good to see you again, Indi.”

“Well, the feeling’s not mutual,” she says. She’s lying, I can tell. Her body language is saying the complete opposite to her words. She’s still a stubborn arse I see. My eyes leave hers, gazing down at her lips. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dreamt of those lips over the past five years. Too many to count. I want to kiss her so bad my fucking chest aches. I let my eyes drop a little lower. First I see is the necklace I bought her. I can’t believe she’s still wearing it. It has me smiling like a damn fool. You have no idea what seeing that means to me.

I watch her chest rise and fall as her breathing quickens. She can deny it all she wants, but she’s affected by me. “My eyes are up here, buddy,” she spits. I want to laugh at her comment. I love her smart mouth. I’m glad this part of our relationship hasn’t changed.

Underneath the material of her white top, I can see a hint of her white lace bra covering the swell of her breast. It gives me an idea. I can’t help myself. I lift the sponge in my hand until it’s hovering over her tits. I hear her gasp when she realises what I’m about to do. I clench my fist tight, the water drips out. Peeling my gaze from her spectacular rack, I make eye contact with her again. I’m feeling quite pleased with myself, but that feeling doesn’t last long. A feral, high pitched sound escapes me as I fall to my knees in agony. “Stay the fuck away from me arsehole,” she spits, as she turns and runs inside.

EXCERPT
Once we
were alone on our way to school, she glanced down at our joined hands and then
back up at me. Her wide smile and bright eyes told me she was feeling the same
warm feelings I was.
“Hey,
boyfriend,” she said as she gave my hand a squeeze.
The
shit-eating grin lifted my cheeks again. “Hi yourself, girlfriend.”
“We
probably shouldn’t play hooky today, should we?” Without releasing my hand, she
sped up a little before turning to walk backwards so that she could meet my
eyes.
I
thought about the day we could have if we did and ached to say yes. “We
probably shouldn’t. It’s probably a better idea to prove we’re going to be
responsible even if we’re a couple.”
“Hmm,
couple. I like the sound of it.” She turned around again, resting her head
against my arm as we walked.
I
dropped her hand and wrapped my arm around her shoulders.
“Maybe
we can still be responsible if we’re a little late though?” she asked.
“Maybe.
Why? What do you have in mind?”
She
dragged me in the direction of the park where we’d played cards the day
before—the park which had been “ours” for as long as I could remember and where
everything had changed.
“Well,
our first date was cut a little short, don’t you think?”
The
ghost of her lips tracing over mine filled my mind, together with the memory of
her tongue tangling with my own.
“Definitely,”
I said, unable to keep the lust and desire from my voice.
We
walked in silence until we arrived at our park. Without any verbal agreement,
we made our way toward the table we’d claimed as our spot years earlier.
Alyssa
sat on the bench and I took my usual place perched behind her on the table. I
placed my legs on either side of her body and leaned my chin on the top of her
head. It was a position we’d sat in hundreds of times before as we chatted
about anything and everything. Only, this time it was different. Neither of us
spoke, which had never really happened before. The silence around us was almost
maddening; the only sound, our matching breaths.
“So—”
we both said at the same time, before stopping at the same time.
“You
go—” Again our voices were almost perfectly in sync.
I
chuckled as she turned around and knelt on the bench to look at me. I helped
her up onto the table beside me and just looked at her for a moment. Her lips
called to me, and I wanted to kiss her, longed to with every part of me, but I
didn’t know if I should. I didn’t want kissing to be the only thing we had.
There was so much more that I liked about her and none of those things had
changed. Yet it was still different. Everything was different.
“Don’t
hate me for asking, but is this weird as hell for you too?” she asked.
My
relief that I wasn’t the only one who was feeling the new, odd atmosphere
surrounding us escaped in a quiet laugh. “So
weird.”
“It
shouldn’t be though, should it?”
“No. I
mean, we’re still us, right?”
She
practically leapt in place. “Right!”
“We’re
still friends,” I added. “We always will be.”
“Exactly.
We’re just friends that kiss now.”
As she
said the words, my gaze was drawn to her bright pink lip gloss. I licked my
lips. “Friends that kiss a lot?”
“If
you’re lucky.”
I
trailed my hands into her hair, drawing her face slowly closer to mine. “Am I?”
“I
don’t know,” she whispered. Her lips were so close to mine that I could feel
her breath on my skin. “I’m starting to think that maybe I’m the lucky one.”

Excerpt

I close my eyes while he opens the door then slowly leads me into the space, the anticipation of what he’s going to show me making me feel like I’m floating on air.

We move around something, and then he lets go of my hand and walks away for a second, moving something around. Both of his hands then touch my hips, and I’m guided down to sit on his lap.

“Keegan,” I yelp, the action having surprised me.

“I’m going to count to five, Aimee, and then you can open those beautiful eyes.” His deep and commanding voice starts counting, “One … two … three … four … five.”

My eyes remain tightly shut as I feel his beating heart against my back, matching mine.

He laughs and puts both arms around me, holding me close with his chin on my shoulder, and I can feel his breath on my neck. I suddenly break out in goose bumps.

“It’s okay. Open them,” he whispers in my ear.

I slowly open my eyes, seeing we are sitting directly in front of his expansive window. The scene in front of me is one of beauty. I am facing the New York sky, the stars twinkling above and lights of different colors below us. I can see everything for miles, the entire city. It’s the most amazing view I have ever seen. The buildings and sky fit together like the perfect puzzle. The view at night is more glorious than I ever imagined, just as Keegan mentioned during his interview.

“This is … just … no words, Keegan.” Although him sharing this with me makes me feel something in my heart, I can’t find the words to describe it.

He holds me a little tighter. “I know. You don’t have to say anything.”

“Thank you for showing this to me,” I whisper.

“You’re welcome,” He replies in another whisper.

“No, really, thank you. I could sit here all night, looking at this.” I tell him, imagining how beautiful this scene would be watching the sun rise. Of course, what would make it special is watching it together.

“I have actually looked out these windows and watched the city all night.”

“By yourself?” I ask.

“I’ve never shared this with anyone until now.”

“Really?”

“Yes. As if I would even want to be here with anyone else.”

I melt into him. How could this man be any more perfect?
