Allana Harrison wanted out. She wanted to escape her painful, broken past and enjoy a fresh start somewhere else. Anywhere else. And while all of the boys in high school and college promised to deliver that dream, only one man actually pulled through.
Now a young adult, Allana finds herself on the opposite side of the world, in a prosperous and rich town that’s not only isolated from her past, but from the crime, grime and hustle of bigger cities, in a country where she doesn’t understand the language or know anybody else except her husband. And that’s how she likes it.
Until she meets Alex, another American who ends up being her only other friend, the one person who reminds her of what it’s like to feel desired, wanted and hungered for.
Except Alex has motives. About Morgan Parker
Morgan

Author Bio: As the author of the best-selling mystery romance, Surviving Goodbye, Morgan Parker has written several other novels under this pen name. In 2012 and 2013, he self-published Textual Encounters and Textual Encounters: 2, respectively. As a result of the interest in these two stories, he wrote non friction, an unconventional love story. That love story earned Mr. Parker a tremendous amount of attention and at the insistence of his readers, he followed it with Hope (a novella) and Sick Day. All three of those stories have spent time on Amazon best-seller lists.

When not writing, Morgan likes to spend time gathering story material from his two young children, rereading books by Colin Harrison, and napping where he discovered the Type II Sleep State, which is the topic for an untitled trilogy to be released in late-2016.

Chapter 1

Monster

Sociopath

The man in the chair was pinned to the wall with several straps across his chest. He cried out in pain as I relished the exquisite torture my hands inflicted on him. It was truly a work of art to make a man suffer agonizing pain, but not enough to die.

I’d mastered it for many years, learned everything there was, and practiced my craft religiously.

Knives, guns, chains, wires.

Nothing was off limits for me.

I loved this—the feeling of power and knowledge that I could play with my victim for days, and sometimes, if the mood struck me, for weeks. When I finally had enough, and it was always about me, I’d kill the fuckers quickly. They tended to get on my nerves with all their whining.

The most boring part in the whole process was disposing of the body—not much work there—and then covering my tracks so the traces would never bring anyone to me.

However, the idea of anyone suspecting me of such things was laughable.

I was the one who sent condolences to their wives and families, if they had any, and the one who actively participated in police searches.

People were very naïve sometimes. They had no idea appearances could be deceiving.

What they thought was good, might be dark.

What they thought was dark, might be the only salvation to human kind.

“Mercy.” The fucker was choking on his own blood; his voice was barely a whisper, and his eyes were wide with fear. It made me chuckle.

“Never.” I held the knife, small but sharp, and engraved small patterns on his back, which earned me another cry of pain. The familiar, disgusting smell of urine filled the air. How many fucking times could this guy piss his pants? Adjusting my nose mask better on my face, I continued to write the names on his back, so he would know what the fuck he suffered for.

You’d probably think I was a monster.

Well, you wouldn’t be wrong.

I loved torture and pain, but only when I was the one to inflict it.

I was the witness, judge, and executioner all at once.

No one knew better than I did what it was like to be in their position.

Helpless.

Afraid.

Starved.

Neglected.

And in pain.

Always in fucking pain.

No one was born a monster.

He made me the person I was, and I was glad for his ‘gift.’

Sociopath took care of men like him, made sure they suffered to death. They would never get an easy death from me. I’d make them suffer for all the shit they’d done. It was fun and well deserved.

Mercy. What a funny concept.

I would never have mercy for anyone in this world, let alone for people who were the same monsters as I was.

Life wasn’t that generous.

I was not that generous.

No one knew about it; no one knew my name. They only knew a nickname.

Sociopath.

And those who received an e-mail with that name knew the end was coming.

It was part of my high, to watch them for weeks being cautious, uneasy, and frightened of every step. They knew why they would suffer.

Life was fucking great.

It thrilled me.

And I never wanted more.

Women were interchangeable, and I only used them when I needed a cover.

I never wanted to touch them, never wanted them to touch me. Fucking hated any physical contact with them longer than what was necessary. I never allowed them to touch my dick, or any other part of my body. I had to learn how to please them, so they wouldn’t try any stupid moves.

Sex was a chore, a necessary weapon to use when information or access was needed. Nothing more, nothing less.

Until I met her.

Meeting her changed something inside me, and my control snapped.

She was a target, just like everyone else. One touch from her, and she became my everything.

Instead of being repulsed by her, I yearned to touch her, and for her to become undone under me. My head was filled with images of our bodies covered in sweat when she was spread on the mattress in my dungeon, her body covered in my bite marks of ownership.

I never wanted to hurt her, but I wanted to own her. Brand her as mine for the world to see and accept me as I was.

She had the bluest eyes I’d ever seen; it was like looking into the clear blue sky.

They were warm and beautiful.

Sapphire.

My Sapphire.

If I were a better man, I would have left her alone and never made her part of my life.

But I was a monster.

And monsters didn’t have hearts.

V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her momma over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn’t happen.
Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

Synopsis

Ben

Those gold eyes were the first thing I noticed. I

wanted more than anything to get lost in them, drown in her, to let go of my fears

and doubts my past had left behind.

But it wasn’t just me I had to consider.

My son came first.

She’s a force to be reckoned with, though. She was

everywhere, in my dreams even, tempting me to throw caution to the wind.

And I was weak.

I gave into my clawing desire and let myself enjoy

one night with her, having no clue she’d change me forever.

Once wasn’t enough. I became addicted. I craved her

– her scent, her skin, her smile, her eyes…her love.

I need Samantha.

Samantha

My life was uncomplicated. It was free and

easy.

Then I met him, the man with the blue-violet eyes

that entranced me.

I had a feeling I was making a big mistake when

agreeing to one night of carnal bliss, but I was unable to walk away. I just couldn’t

have foreseen how big of one it was.

He turned my world upside-down, working his way

into my heart until it beat only for him. Now everything is complex, and there are

secrets he’s not telling me.

Will he ever let me in?

Time would tell, but one thing is sure – I’d walk

through hell and back, feel the blistering lick of each flame against my flesh, for just

the promise of Ben.

Not intended for anyone under the age of eighteen

due to language and sexual content.

Note from the author:

Fated Bliss is the second book in The Bliss Series,

is a standalone novel with an HEA.

Ben cleared his voice, breaking the silence. “Is this

you?”

I hadn’t realized we’d stopped outside my

door.

“Oh…yeah.” My hands shook as I slipped my keycard

from my clutch. I smiled at him as I opened the door. “Come on in. There’s a fully

stocked bar inside.”

I didn’t give him a chance to say anything and

ambled inside, expecting him to follow. I threw my purse on the dresser and

continued to the bar, turning on lights as I went.

“Nice place,” Ben remarked behind me, closing the

door.

“I know. My brother hooked me up,” I replied,

grabbing two beers and opening them.

With my heart in my throat, I discarded the caps and

spun around. Ben was standing at the mouth of the hall leading into the room, his

shoulder to the wall, seemingly unsure. I continued to him and passed him the

beer.

“Why don’t we have a seat,” I suggested, waving to

the couch in front of the floor to ceiling windows.

Why was I so nervous?

You already know why, Sam.

You. Do. Not. Do. This!

Before I could turn back around, Ben grabbed my

hand and plucked my beer from my grip. He placed the beers on the dresser next to

my clutch, slowly maneuvering me until my back was pressed against the wall. I

swallowed thickly and peered up at him. With two hands next to my head, he caged

me in and crowded me.

He sighed slowly and then played with a strand of

my hair between two fingers. “Samantha…”

I felt like this needed to be said, so I blurted, “I don’t

do this.”

He flashed me his pearly whites and replied, “I

know. I can tell. But you’re not the only one out of your element here, sweetheart.

This is the first time I’ve followed a woman back to her place.”

My forehead scrunched with shock and disbelief.

“Really?”

His head descended, and though I expected him to

kiss me, he merely rested his forehead against mine. I could detect a hint of beer on

his breath, but surprisingly, it was tantalizing. I wanted to close the distance so

badly that I’d sell my soul for just one sip from his lips.

Ben groaned, “You weren’t supposed to

happen.”

“Why not?” I whispered, confused.

Talking was the last thing I wanted to do.

Everything in me ached for him.

“When I came here…” He leaned closer and pressed

his cheek to mine, inhaling deeply. My legs shook. “You weren’t in my plans. I

couldn’t have foreseen such a stunning,” he placed his lips to the underside of my

ear, “captivating,” his teeth nipped my jaw, “completely tempting woman.” His

tongue snuck out as he nibbled down my neck, causing my knees to turn to rubber.

“You’ve knocked me on my ass, Samantha. I don’t know what in the hell I’m

doing.”

I shuddered, letting my head fall back, opening

myself up for his exploration. “I wasn’t expecting you either, Ben. I’m in over my

head, too.”

“We don’t have to do this,” he stated, his voice

jagged, though his actions were contradictory. His hands traveled down to my waist,

his fingers digging in deep to keep me anchored in place. “I can walk out of here. All

you have to do is tell me.”

No chance in hell.

“Don’t you dare, Ben.”

“I want to make promises. I want to say I’ll see

you tomorrow and the next day and

the next. I want-”

“Shhh. Don’t, Ben. Don’t say those things to

me.”

Promises were the last thing I needed. My heart

couldn’t handle it once this was over if he made any.

“See… I know you’re not the type of girl that does

this.” He drew the shell of my ear between his teeth and bit down lightly. I

whimpered. “You’re sucking me in, sweetheart, just like I’m doing to you.

Something’s bound to go wrong, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you.”

Shamelessly, not wanting him to move, I wrapped

my arms around his neck and held tight. “Nothin’ needs to go wrong. I don’t expect

anythin’ after tonight, so you can’t

hurt me.”

I might be slightly sore once this was over, but he

was worth it.

Just for the night…

“You’re lying, sweetheart.” He pulled back a little,

taking his lips from my skin, and peered down at me, his eyes ravenous. “We’re both

going to be bruised and bloody come

tomorrow.”

“Why, Ben?” I questioned.

“Because, baby girl, I’ve never wanted anyone the

way I want you.”

His words had power over me, and breathlessness

left me lightheaded. “Ben…” I moaned, and my lids fluttered closed.

“Fuck it,” he growled, and then his lips crashed into

mine.

Prologue
Danika

“Yes,” I moan, grinding down against him.

“Fucking beautiful,” he says gruffly against my skin, his lips brushing my neck. His breath comes hard and fast in time with the upward thrusts of his cock, and I feel my orgasm barreling toward me.

“Feels so good,” I pant. His hand tightens around my back and his fingers zero in on my wonder button, stroking with expert precision and making my pussy clench around him. My body contorting as if it’s possessed.
“Jesus. Fuck,” Zach growls, planting his feet on the bed and thrusting up one last time before following me over the edge as he pours himself inside of me.
We collapse backwards, my legs falling limp on the way down, and together we lie there, chests heaving, bodies stuck together, struggling to catch our breaths.
“Every time is better than the last,” he murmurs in my ear, sucking my earlobe into his mouth afterwards. I whimper and my muscles spasm as aftershocks course through me. Shifting sideways, I stay draped over him, my fingers drawing mindless circles in the smattering of hair on his damp chest.

“What’s on the agenda today?” he asks, his hand running through my hair, roots to ends.

“Team meeting at eleven, lunchtime conference call with the west coast programmers at one, then I get to go play.”
“Such a geek.” He chuckles. I jerk my head up and I narrow my eyes at him. He just smirks, and my twitching lips give away how uncommitted I am to the death stare aimed his way.
“Your geek.”

“You better fucking believe it,” he replies with conviction, his arm hooked around my waist, giving a meaningful squeeze.
“I know it, firebug.”
Now he out-and-out grins. “Never going to live it down, am I?”
I push up with one hand on the bed so that my head hovers over his, our lips just an inch apart. “Never,” I whisper. “But that’s okay. I still love you.”

His entire body goes still and my eyes go wide as realization hits me. Way to go, Dani. Freak him out why don’t you.

My brain catches up with my body and flight mode kicks in. I move quickly, rolling backwards and scrambling off the bed. Making a smash-and-grab attempt, I scoop up my clothes scattered over his bedroom floor, but the first step toward escape is hampered by an arm wrapping around my waist.
I fall back and slam into his naked chest, my entire body going still at the contact.
“Wait a minute, Dani. You can’t say something like that then fly out of here like a bat out of hell.”
“Bats like hell. They live there.”
“They live in caves. Stop trying to change the subject.”
Deciding that redirecting this inevitable conversation is the best plan of attack, I continue. “I really have to go, Zach. I’ve still gotta go home, shower, get dressed, and then get to work.”
“It’s only six, and you just told me your first meeting isn’t till eleven.”
“I’ve got a lot of stuff to do before then.”

“I’ll drive you home and to the office if it means you’ll turn around. I wanna look in your eyes when I tell you I love you back.”

For the second time in as many minutes, my heart stutters to a halt. There’s no way in hell I’m in flight mode now.
Seven years ago, I fell in teenage girl love with Zach Cooper, my older brother’s roommate and best friend.
Five months ago, I fell into adult insta-lust with him the night I told him what I wanted. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t imagined what it would be like to hear him say those three little words.
What I didn’t know was that just a few days after one of the best moments in my life—one of those ones you know you’ll remember forever—everything would be turned upside down.

And there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Tall grass, dried from the blazing summer days, crunched under their duty shoes. Heat hung over the dirt road, and not even the pools of shade cast by tall water oaks offered relief. The red clay, already rutted and dusty after the recent rains, baked under the early-afternoon sun, and a black snake sunned himself beside the ditch.

Zeke’s forlorn truck sat next to the turnoff to the sprawling fields. On one side of the dirt track, green corn stalks, tassels golden and silky, reached toward the blue cloudless sky. On the other, neat rows of peppers and squash, heavy with ripe produce, ran up to the far woods. Cicadas buzzed in a quivering rise and fall of distant sound. The police radio beeped and squawked, a garbled transmission between Chris and dispatch, a license-plate check. Around the abandoned Ford, a bubble of silence pulsed. The window was down, a cell phone and wallet on the dash. The keys, on a John Deere fob, dangled from the ignition. Empty fertilizer jugs littered the bed. A tidy stack of bushel baskets waited next to the vehicle.

Around the truck, the grass was beaten down, trodden low by farm vehicles, tractors and booted feet. Rob leaned down to better see inside the truck, but didn’t touch anything. “When was the last time you heard from him?”

“Yesterday at lunch.” Worry roughened Dale Jenkins’s voice. “His mama tried to call him last night and there was no answer, but that’s not real unusual. She called Britt this morning when he still didn’t answer, and he never came home last night.”

“Why didn’t Brittany call us?” Rob straightened and pulled out his notebook to begin jotting.

“She said it’s not unusual for him not to come home some nights.”

Really. That was new. Rob scratched down a note, but kept his face impassive. “Have you talked to any of his friends today? Other relatives he’s in contact with?”

“His grandma hasn’t heard from him. My wife’s been calling his friends, and none of them have seen or heard from him.”

Rob cast a look at the cell phone on the dash. “Did you touch anything in the truck?”

“No. When I got here and saw his stuff like that, I walked the field and through the woods down to the stream, just seeing if I could find him.” Dale wiped a hand across his tense jaw. “I been friends with Tick Calvert a long time, and my wife likes that Dateline show. I knew better than to touch anything when I didn’t find him.”

“Okay.” Rob stared at the truck, then down the turnoff and into the woods. Turning, he nodded at Troy Lee. “Will you get Parker out here with the dog? And bring me the evidence kit from the trunk.”

With his phone, he snapped a series of photos of the scene and the truck’s interior.

“Chris is on his way.” Troy Lee stopped beside him and set down the multiple-compartment box that housed the evidence kit. Rob removed two pair of latex gloves and snapped them on, one pair over the other. Rather than open the door, he reached through the open window and retrieved the cell phone. The home screen glowed to life to reveal myriad missed calls from his parents and Mike Smithwick, plus various texts from Brittany and a couple of friends. Rob swiped his thumb across the screen and the keyboard popped up for a passcode entry.

He glanced sideways at Jenkins. “Do you know his passcode?”

“Four-one-two-zero.” Jenkins cleared his throat. “It’s part of Emma’s birthday.”

Rob navigated to check for the last outgoing texts and calls, both of which dated to late the previous morning. A phone call to his mother around eleven, then a text to Brittany at twelve.

Rob placed the phone in an evidence bag, labeled and sealed it. He squinted across the field, quiet and deserted under the midday sun. “Mr. Jenkins, other than the situation with Brittany this week, has Zeke had other difficulties you know of? Has he been in any trouble or talked to you about any problems he’s had lately?”

“No.” Jenkins pushed up the bill of his battered cap with one finger and scrubbed a hand over his forehead. “He’s always been a real good boy. We weren’t happy about Britt being pregnant with them so young and not married and all, but since they got married, he works hard to take care of her and Emma.”

The grass surrounding the produce field showed no evidence of recent foot traffic. Maybe he’d never even made it into the field. “You said you talked to his friends. Is it possible he’s with one of them?”

“No.” Jenkins shook his head. “He might ignore Britt and he might ignore me, but that boy would never ignore his mama.”

Blurb

The second novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy wraps up an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

The truth hurts, they say—and my pain cuts deep. While I was falling for Ethan, he was deceiving me the entire time. He held a huge secret, protected by his lies. When I discovered what he was hiding, the truth shook my world, threatening to ruin us forever. Ruin me. But I soon realized that what we share can’t be destroyed.

The connection between us is too strong. It always has been. I can’t deny him any longer. And I can’t deny my truth: I’m in love with Ethan.

I don’t want to let him go.

While we’re trying our best to make this relationship work, other forces are fighting against us. My family, who wants to keep me safe. The media obsessed with my tragic past. The public that feeds off of it. Even Ethan’s father—the man who nearly destroyed me all those years ago. He’s doing his best to finish the job.

Despite my love for Ethan, the doubts creep in, clouding my mind. Is he worth the pain? Will our love survive, or will we have no choice but to end it—end us—once and for all?

Excerpt

“Maybe I care,” she retorts. “Think about what this will do to us.”

“What could it do? Force us to admit that yes, we’re in a relationship now? What’s wrong with that?”

“This so-called relationship only happened because you sought me out and then lied to me!” Her voice is shrill, her eyes wild, and she visibly shakes. She’s angry.

At me.

“I never meant—” I clamp my lips shut when I see her hostile expression. She looks ready to pounce. Christ, maybe she’s right. Maybe we shouldn’t have met today. Our hurt feelings are still too close to the surface, too raw and painful.

“Do you really think meeting me today was a mistake?” I need to know her answer, though I might not like it.

Katie watches me, pressing her lips together. I wait for her response, air lodged in my throat, my heart tripping over itself in my chest. I feel like it’s all come down to this. “This won’t work,” she whispers.

“What won’t?”

“Us. The two of us . . . together. We need to accept it.” Her face almost crumples but she somehow keeps it together, all while she slaughters my heart with her words. “We shouldn’t be seen together in public. If anyone recognizes us, it will become this—thing, and soon the media will be talking. About us and our sick relationship. And I don’t want that. I don’t think you do either.”

My spine stiffens involuntarily and I slowly back away from her, holding my hands up in front of me in pure defensive mode. As if my position can ward o the blow only her words can deliver.

I thought my father knew how to pack a punch, saying just the right thing to make me internally bleed. A few choice words from Katie Watts and I feel like I’m near death.

“You want me gone? I’m gone,” I tell her, but I don’t budge. I’m hoping she’ll stop me. Despite the pain she’s causing, I don’t want to walk away from her. Even though it feels like my heart is about to crack into a million tiny pieces. I swear she already broke my heart when she first found out who I really was and ran, exiting my life like she was never in it.

Now she doesn’t want to be seen with me in public. Doesn’t want Lisa to know. The rational side of my brain understands why she might feel that way. But the irrational side, the emotional side, is screaming in agony over her rejection, demanding that I hurt her back.

My vengeful side makes me think of my father.

I rub a hand across my chest to ease the radiating ache, but it doesn’t help. The way Katie watches me isn’t helping either.

“It’s for the best,” she whispers. “The minute she spots us, she’ll tell . . . everyone. And then we’re in trouble. They’ll twist our relationship into this weird, sick thing, and I can’t. I can’t bear it, Ethan. I’ve already suffered through too much and so have you. This—we’re not worth it.”

My mouth drops open. We’re not worth it? She’s the only person in my life who’s worth anything.

“I’m—I’m sorry.” The choked words leave her and I can’t say anything in return.

She turns and leaves, her steps hurried, her at black shoes slapping against the pavement as she scurries away. I watch her go, don’t stop her, don’t say her name. I don’t do a damn thing, as if I’m paralyzed, and I wonder for one crazy moment if I might be.

But I’m not. I’m just struck numb by her words, by her worry. She’s right. I know she’s right. The media will turn our relationship into a train wreck, and with good reason.

We are a train wreck. We shouldn’t have happened, but we did. No one else knows what it’s like to be me. No one under-stands what we went through together except her and me. But she has walked away from me yet again. Practically ran, and I did nothing about it.

Breathing deep, I tell myself to stay strong. Either this will work or it won’t—but I want it to. I’m desperate to keep that connection between us.

Yet I need to understand and respect her feelings. Forgive her for walking away from me so easily. It’s damn hard. That tiny, vulnerable part buried deep within me, that little boy who never felt wanted, the one who spent his entire life moving through it essentially alone . . .

He is devastated.
