We sit in silence for a few moments, Alex tracing my scar with his fingers. He moves slowly behind me. I feel his breath against my neck. It’s a warning to all my senses to be on my guard. My body yearns for his touch. I want him. The darkness and uncertainty of the last few minutes has lifted and has been replaced with desire.

He places small kisses on my neck and slowly but gently moves down my back until he reaches the scar, where he stops and lingers. Seriously? He can’t keep overthinking this, or it will be a painful weekend for both of us. I don’t want to waste the time we have together.

“Alex.” My voice is barely a whisper.

“Yes, baby.”

“I want you now, please.”

“You have me.” He moves from behind me and pushes me down flat on the bed. He pulls my bra straps off my shoulders and throws the bra on the floor. How did I not notice him undoing the clip? He stands at the side of the bed and removes his trousers and boxers in one go.

Oh, what a sight before me.

“Libby, see what you do to me?”

My eyes slowly run the length of his body, leaving the most important part, at this moment, to savour.

“Anything I can help you with, Miss Stewart? You seem to be rather taken with a certain part of my anatomy,” he says with a devilish grin.

“Of course you can help. It’s a part of your body I want to get reacquainted with, considering how long it’s been since we were last together like this.” I reach my arms out to him and pull him toward me.

His grin is infectious. His lips find mine with passion and force. His tongue invades my mouth almost violently. I forcefully run my hands through his hair. A slight moan leaves him. His hands are all over my body, not staying in one place long, which is just as well, because I need this as quickly as he does. There will be plenty of time for deep and meaningful later. There’s no doubt in my mind what we both want in this moment.

All the frustration of our weeks apart boils away between us. We both seem to be worked up. He seems to be right where he wants to be and looks straight into my eyes for approval, which I give. My hands leave his hair and travel down his back. I move my legs, wrapping them around his waist, giving him all the invitation he needs.

Rylee bounces out the door and bounds down the stairs before our feet even hit the first step. I’m sure she’s trying to sneak in a kiss before we get there.
“She was talking about what I think she was right?”
“What sex?” I answer teasing him
He shudders with just the thought “Yeah”
“Of course she was” I answer with a laugh
“So sick, I figured as much” he mutters
“Don’t worry Zack, I’ll never tell your sister how well you wield your mighty sword.” He stops in his tracks halfway down the stairs cracking up.
“Oh my God Cassidy that’s fucking classic! I almost wish you could, just so I could see her expression.” Then he whispers seductively in my ear “But if that’s how you’re going to describe my fucking magnificent cock, I really hope it’s in jest.” He nips the tip of my earlobe and sucks on my neck pulling me closer to him. His magnificent cock is pushing against my hip making sure I’m aware his description is indeed accurate.
“Yes it’s just a joke. But you’d understand why if you could have heard her description of…”
“Lalalalala” he cuts me off with his fingers in his ears and bounds down the stairs.
“Oh gross! Seriously? Come on! Pete we’re about to eat. Damn Ry, you’re making me lose my appetite.”
Oops guess he walked in on them anyway.
“Paybacks a bitch big brother get used to it.” Rylee tosses back at him as I walk right past the kitchen and out to the patio. I’m starving and this will either end quickly or go on all night.
Pete exits the house right behind me and takes a seat, followed by Ry and Zack.
“There’s not enough bleach in the world for my eyes after that.” Zack complains as I begin dishing out food.
“Stop whining Zack it was just tongue I’ve seen you with your ass in the air mid thrust so don’t talk to me about bleach.” Rylee pretends to stick her finger down her throat and gag. Zack does have the decency to look embarrassed, but it only lasts a second.
“If you would have knocked first that wouldn’t have happened.” He taunts and she rolls her eyes at him. I love how Pete just stays quiet and sips on his beer.
“New house rules starting now, no one gets to fuck in our house but us.”
“Seriously Zack? We weren’t fucking, not even close to it.” Ry snaps back at him
“I know” he says with a smile “I’m just making a pre-emptive strike in case you get too drunk to drive tonight.”
“If I get too drunk to drive tonight I’ll call a cab because I’m definitely getting fucked.”
Both Pete and I respectively choke, him on his beer and me on my salad. Zack gives Pete a long glare and Pete just shrugs. Damn I think I love him already.
“You just said I couldn’t break her heart you didn’t say I couldn’t make her scream.” Pete points out hysterically. Hell, I’m laughing so hard I’m crying at this point.

“Why, Cammie, can’t nobody say you forgot how to two-step, and that’s a fact,” her dance partner, Lloyd, a former high school classmate, remarked as they whirled around the scuffed wooden floor. He’d been one of several familiar faces she’d come across since they’d arrived.

She’d given up, and given in. “Thanks, Lloyd, I’d forgotten how much fun this is. I don’t think anyone could forget how to two-step. It’s so easy.” The name of the dance itself should clue one in to the simplicity.

“Aw, Cammie, it’s just ’cause you such a natural. Not everybody can do it like this, you know?”

She glanced around, realizing in about a second that, indeed, there were less than capable two-steppers all around. “I guess I’d never really thought about it.”

The song ended much too quickly. Not because she couldn’t bear to part company with Lloyd, though he was a handsome fellow and a good dancer, but because she was truly enjoying herself. Approaching the rather large table where her sisters and brother had taken on several others, she noticed a little ripple of shifting eyeballs. “What’s going on?”

Ignoring her, Emma said, “You sure were cuttin’ a rug out there with Lloyd, girl. Whoa, I haven’t seen you dance like that in years.” She smiled brightly.

Cammie crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at them, then repeated, “What’s going on?”

“Might as well tell her. She’s bound to hear it in here or see for herself,” Maeve said.

“Tell me what?”

Jo Jo stood, linked arms with her, and began leading her in the direction of the small bar over in a far corner. Just before they came too close, she pointed through the throng. Cammie followed her sister’s line of vision and she spotted Grey sitting alone at the bar.

He was sipping a longneck and appeared to be brooding. Nothing like the hottest guy in the bar sitting there like he was waiting for her. Well, hell. She couldn’t very well go back to having a good time with her people without at least saying hello, could she? It didn’t seem very nice, especially since he appeared fairly miserable hanging there by himself. Maybe she would wait a little while and then come back—

At that moment, his head snapped up and he caught her staring through the crowd. Her feet instantly became blocks of cement, and utterly unmovable. Crap.

He smiled then and raised his beer in salute to her, slapped a bill on the bar, nodded to the bartender. Within a half a second he was closing the distance between them without breaking eye contact with Cammie. She tried again to move, feet still frozen, rooted to the floor.

She straightened her shoulders, realizing a getaway wasn’t happening at this point. The intensity with which he bore down was intimidating, but maybe she’d asked for it with her surprised expression he’d caught her casting in his direction.

“Cammie,” he murmured into her ear, his breath warm, his firm but gentle grip seared her bare upper arm, calloused fingers directed her to a less visible spot away from her family and interested onlookers.

What the hell was her problem, anyway? She had a fiancée. And she and Grey had been in near contact for these past weeks without major incident. Why should this moment be any different? She allowed herself to be maneuvered to a more private area.

He was only slightly manhandling her, but she wasn’t sure she didn’t like it—just a little.

Grey stopped as they reached a small area where a few couples danced in a darker corner, seemingly unaware of anyone else. The bar was laid out like an octopus with four arms, with several small bars and dance floors stretching out like appendages from the main area. Cammie and Grey stood toe-to-toe as an old, slow George Strait song began. Before she realized what was happening, she was wrapped in his muscular arms, breasts pressed against his chest, swaying softly to their song.

She’d consumed a couple of longnecks, resulting in a lovely tingly sensation. Combined with the soulful country ballad playing, reminiscent from their dating years, perhaps it was no wonder she was experiencing more than a little emotional and physical sizzle of electricity. Considering she’d always been wildly attracted to Grey, she might want to rein herself in. She inhaled the scent of him, closed her eyes, and fell back in time.

Dear Lord. Why did he make her feel like this? What was it about him that caused the young girl who’d loved and trusted him with her whole heart to take over without a even a struggle from older, smarter her who’d thrown in the towel the moment they’d locked eyes?

At this particular moment, she couldn’t think, only feel and remember what it’d been like with Grey.

I looked up at her, cocking my eyebrow.

“He is my best friend, my cuddle buddy and the protector.” She explained as she rubbed his head in a motherly way. “He may be big.”

“He’s fucking huge,” I corrected.

“Okay he may be huge, but he is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet. Don’t let him fool ya, he’s a big baby.” I still wasn’t convince. The idea of a dog being almost as big as most motorcycles, had me convinced that I should wait in the car.

“Will you stop being such a pussy,” Harper stated as she placed her hand on her hip. “He won’t hurt you. In fact he is scared of his own shadow on a good day.”

She opened the door and I took a step inside, still leery of the dog that could stand on his hind legs and be taller than me. She led me toward the couch and directed me to have a seat.

“I just need five minutes.” She rushed off before I could say another word.

I was tense and afraid to move, Brutus, watched me from the left end of the couch. I continued to stare straight ahead, thinking if I avoided eye contact, maybe he would walk away.

My actions had the opposite effect. I felt his head nudge my knee and I stiffened, this shit was messed up. Dogs were supposed to be small and cute. Never should a dog be larger than their owner…never.

I strong nudge against my leg once more, made me sweat a little. Then Brutus went one step further and placed his paw on my thigh, laying his head next to it, letting out a loud, humph.

“Hey there big guy,” my voice vibrated with tension. Harper was right, what the fuck. I was acting like a damn pussy.

I lifted my hand and began petting the top of Brutus’s head. “You’re not that scary are ya?” It was definitely more of a question than a reassuring statement. I still wasn’t completely convinced that he wasn’t going to eat me before Harper finished getting ready.

“Okay, this isn’t so bad is it?”

I let out a breath I had been holding since Harper left me alone with the grizzly. His big puppy dog eyes looking up at me as they sagged in awe. Apparently he liked it when you scratched behind his ears.

So for the next, what felt like ten minutes, I continued to pet him in the place he enjoyed the most. Yes I still silently prayed that I made it out of here with all my limbs in tacked but I may have been able to relaxed, just a little.

I enjoy happy endings in my love stories. Loving those scenes that give it the needed angst and heat to keep you hooked and wanting more. Just enough drama to make her heart race and your stomach flutter. I haven’t always been a lover of Romance and had once been addicted to a good Mystery. Just recently I have taken on a new liking and now I am addicted to Romance Novel.

Interview

1. When did you first start writing?

As far back as I can remember. In grammar school, I was always writing stories. I analyzed TV shows and wrote sequels to episodes.

2. What inspired you to write?

For years, I stayed away from writing because somehow I ended up believing that nobody could make any money from it unless your name is Stephen King or James Patterson with movie deals.

Two things happened. First, I fell in love with a woman who I couldn’t be with. A friend suggested I write a story about her to get her out of my system. So I did.

At the same time, I found out that authors make money self-publishing on Kindle. So I put the story up, and got three sales of it the very first day. Then I focused on getting better, learned how to market books, and BOOM!…I had a new career.

As for the woman who inspired me, she has shown up as different characters in several of my series…until now. I think I’ve finally written her out of my system…lol. And no, as far as I know, she has no idea she was my inspiration.

3. Who are some of your biggest influences?

I grew up reading Robert B. Parker (the Spenser detective novels) and John D. MacDonald (the Travis McGee detective novels.) Their writing style influenced me heavily. The first chapter of THE STARK AFFAIR is very Parker-esque.

My favorite in recent years is the gone-too-young Vince Flynn, author of the Mitch Rapp CIA series.

But when I came to the erotic romance world, the one book that BLEW ME AWAY was STRINGS by Kendall Grey. The character Letty Dillinger’s potty-mouthed stream-of-consciousness “I-love-sex” style tainted me (in a good way) forever, I think.

4. Is there a special place you go and a certain mind frame you like to be in before you write?

I like to take my laptop outside and write. As for frame of mind, I leave that up to coffee. And then some coffee. And then some more coffee. And then…lol.

5. What’s the most exciting thing that happened to you during your writing career?

The day I opened up KDP, looked at the numbers, shouted “Holy shit!” out loud, and realized I could quit my customer service job.

But even better than that, I love the fact that I can move people with nothing but my fingertips on a keyboard. One reviewer wrote that I made her cry. Now, I don’t like going around making people cry, but realizing that what I wrote touched her so deeply was a profound moment.

6. How do you come up with all the characters and different exciting plots?

Beats the hell out of me. Oh, wait, I know…drugs! No, just kidding. What’s funny is that it’s different every time. THE CAGE SESSIONS and FIFTY DAYS were both seat-of-my-pants. I started both off with a situation and then just followed the characters around waiting for stuff to happen…and a lot did.

I’m still not sure how a story about a girl stuck in traffic with a sex toy on her car seat turned into an epic about a tortured rock star, a controlling mother, a take-charge transsexual, and a heroin-addicted porn star. Nor how I finished it. (That was THE CAGE SESSIONS.)

For THE STARK AFFAIR and CAPITOL SUBMISSION, I planned everything out in advance…even though as I wrote a lot changed.

The idea for CAPITOL SUBMISSION came out of my obsession with the TV show SCANDAL. It’s way overdone, but Shonda Rhimes is a master plotter.

As for characters, some come from my warped mind, others inspired by people I know. Who? I’ll never tell wink emoticon

7. What authors have inspired you through your writing and how did they inspire you?

Like I said, Kendall Grey in STRINGS. Also Sky Corgan, who inspired me to learn about the marketing side of things in a very detailed and precise manner. If it wasn’t for Sky’s advice, I would never have had that “Holy shit!” day I described above. Roxy Sloane’s dirty-talking alpha males also inspired me to make my men more over-the-top masculine.

8. Do you have advice for any writer who’s struggling right now?

Pay attention to the authors who are making money. Research the market. Be careful that you’re not writing stuff that YOU love but that doesn’t have a large enough following to make you any money.

Learn everyday. Stay on top of what’s happening in the industry. The whole game changes constantly. Like last year when Kindle Unlimited came out…fortunes were made while others quit the business. You have to adapt to the changes, go with the flow.

9. What’s the silliest thing that you have ever experienced in your writing career?

Authors who compete. The way I look at life is win-win. I help other authors whenever I can. We’re all in this together. There is no need to one-up each other. There’s enough money to go around for all of us, even more if we work together and help each other out.

10. Could you share something extra that you would like your viewers to know about you are your writing?

I love my characters. Sometimes too much. When I was in the middle of THE CAGE SESSIONS, I got quite emotional because I was living their lives morning, noon, and night. Since then, I’ve learned to detach a bit more to keep my sanity.

Like Joey on FRIENDS, sandwiches. LOL
