Her brain must be on vacation. That was the only explanation because, normally, Rita would never lead a strange man out to the little trailer after dark. Not by herself, at least. She should have grabbed one of the girls to go along.

Something about Falon Harris said she had no need to fear him. All she had worry about was what she would allow him to do, if he asked. Even just walking through the back of the tavern ahead of him, she had to fight the urge to put just a little extra sway to her hips. Ridiculous. Last thing she needed was more attention from a man.

Maybe if she could get Kellen to leave her alone, she might be able to look elsewhere. For the millionth time, she asked herself why she’d done something so stupid. As always, no suitable answer presented itself. She gave herself a little mental shake. No sense thinking that way.

She should say something. Yes. “How long you planning to be here, Mr. Harris?”

He chuckled a little and leaned around her to hold the back door for her. The movement brought him right up close and personal, making Rita very aware of him. “That depends, Miss James.” He smiled a little, drawing her attention to the small scar at the edge of his lower lip.

Rita started walking again, partly to gain a little distance from all that overwhelming maleness. “You’re here for work then?” Of course he was. No one came to Stags Leap for pleasure.

Author Bio

Growing up an only child, I was lucky enough to have a huge brood of cousins to help me get into all sorts of trouble. Long summers spent on various family members’ farms gave me a deep appreciation for the outdoors and horses. I worked my way through college training horses as a result of those summers.

After 15 years editing books for strangers, I decided to try my own hand at writing. Big Game: Hunted Love #1 was my solo debut, and my story idea file is endless. After I finish the Hunted Love series, I have a romance series featuring soldiers returning from war and set twenty years in the future. Stepping into the pair of black and white low tops, I feel the wad of cash pushing back against my toes, a clear indication that it’s been a good night. Keeping my earnings in my shoe is a great hiding place because it’s probably the last place anyone would look if I ever got mugged.

“I’m out of here,” I say as a farewell, grabbing the two hundred-dollar bills on the nightstand on my way out of the cheap motel room.

Taking my glass, he thrust both drinks aside, and his palms came to rest on my hips to pull me close. The hand snaking so familiarly under my shirt was cold from holding his drink, but it quickly warmed against the heat of my skin. Greedily, I couldn’t get enough of his kiss, and I found myself practically hanging on him in an effort to get even closer.

His hand splayed on my back, smashing our bodies together. Phase two was all downhill from here, or rather down the hall. As I thought of my bedroom, some sanity returned. Five years ago, we had hooked up for the sake of hooking up. And tonight? Tonight I had phased sex into some devious plan. A plan that, not for the first time, felt weird and wrong.

“Jack?” I wedged a hand between us, and when he pulled back enough to warm my face with his inquiring gaze, I pulled in a fortifying breath. “You’re not seeing anyone?”

A myriad of emotions crossed his face, and one seemed to be annoyance. “I thought we just cleared this?”

An awkward silence stretched, and he still seemed exasperated with this line of questioning or maybe with the interruption.

Picking up his glass, he drained it. I had definitely killed the mood, and I was regretting it now. I was about to drink to my own stupidity when he dropped to my level again, speaking against my lips.

“I’m not seeing anyone. No woman in any city. No one.” His lips brushed mine as he spoke, and his gaze sank into my eyes. “Is there anything else you need to clear up in this kitchen before we move to the bedroom and fuck like it’s been five years since?”

Hypnotized by his words, and heated with his look, I could only shake my head in one small chin movement.

“Anything you want me to sign?” He pressed, as he pressed a kiss to my mouth, and when I smiled at the humor, he did too.

A touch of our tongues had us heating up fast, and within seconds, the past minutes fell away as if I had never cock-blocked myself.

I was taken by the start of this book. There is a lot of mystery behind this story. Not sure where the story is going or what direction it might take. It pretty much stays this way and that make the draw to it that much more appeals to me. I did have a hang or two with the book nothing bad. It was more the way Scott was showing how Parker was in the writing, as he put it at one point Parker seemed to be like a textbook. Just the facts were given, nothing to draw you in to that moment that is taking place.

As Parker and Victoria get to know each other, Victoria pulls him out of this shell that he has been living in for the most part. She is one that takes the room by storm. You know she is perfect for parker. Kenton is very intriguing person not only being Parker boss but friend you don’t get to know much about him. Kenton has a story but it’s going to be told a little at a time.

Well written, the writing really pulls you in and gives you the feel of the characters. This not being my typical choice of a book it was a very enjoyable read.

At center stage stands the lead singer, his head down, gripping the microphone. He opens his mouth, and the voice that oozes out of it sends a shiver down my spine. The screeching I heard earlier today is nowhere to be found. His voice is raw, deep, and raspy, its richness soothing. My ears are in love with his voice. I’m captivated, as he begins to sing the first line of the song. My heart pounds in my chest, my breathing accelerates, and I am mesmerized. He continues to sing, and the grittiness of his voice ignites a fire inside me that can’t be contained.

I find myself standing, hollering, and surprising the shit out of Tracy and Val. Hell, I’m surprising myself. The lyrics permeate my brain and float around in my head, turning me to goo. His words of hurt and anger resonate in my soul. It’s as if what he’s singing, he’s feeling and has lived. My heart aches in my chest for him if there is any truth behind his words. I finally notice the two enormous Jumbotron-like TV screens on either side of the stage. The camera focuses on him and he stares directly into the lens. His steel-blue eyes smolder and captivate me. I feel like I am under his spell.

It goes on like this through the entire concert. Each song he sings I’m entranced by him, unable to break the chains that his voice and eyes bind me with. Finally the lights go out, the music stops, and I am no longer spellbound—a sense of loss fills me.
