Lonely sad woman near wall

Excerpt

Jack~

Every part of my body throbs with an aching pain. It hurts so much that I can’t sleep. I don’t dare put on any of the clothes Master and Mistress Ryland brought earlier in the evening, it will hurt my raw skin too much.

Sophia managed to put on a light dress. She’s currently sitting on the side of the bed, staring at me. She tilts her head, thinking hard on something.

Growing up with Sophia, I know everything about her. I know she’s lost much more of herself over the years than I have, and that’s saying a lot, seeing as there’s nothing left of me.

I wait, knowing she’s about to speak her mind.

She brings her feet up onto the mattress and folds her arms around her shins, resting her chin on her knees. She keeps her eyes on something outside the window, when she says, “It feels different here. Master and Mistress Ryland seem nice.” She looks at me and smiles. I don’t know how she manages to smile. I just want to die! “I think we’ll be happy here.”

I turn my back to her and grumble, “In order to be happy I actually have to care about life.” I’m done caring. I cared about David and those feeling were used to control me. Caring for someone only makes you vulnerable. I’ll never place myself in such a position again.

I hear someone come into the room and I don’t even bother to see who it is. Something is placed on the table between the two beds and then a soft voice says, “What’s this I hear of you wasting my soup, Son.”

I glance over my shoulder, but the movement only causes me pain. I watch as an elderly lady pulls a chair closer to the bed I’m on.

“My mama always said; waste not, want not,” she goes on talking. Her eyes are a vibrant blue and her hair grey with a purple tinge to it. “Now I’ve brought you another bowl of soup and you’ll eat every last drop. I’ve also brought you some pills for the pain.”

The painkillers get my attention. I struggle into a sitting position, my eyes never leaving the woman. Trust no one and expect anything.

“I’m Miss Ella and that’s what you’ll call me. Don’t even try to call me Miss E, I’m nobody’s missy. My mama gave me the name Ella and I expect you to use it.” She scoops a bit of soup up and then blows on the broth before she brings it to my lips. The action reminds me of Momma. She used to do that too, so I wouldn’t burn my mouth.

I take a few bites before Miss Ella asks, “What’s your name, Son?”

I don’t answer her. I don’t want to be here and I don’t want to get friendly with anyone.

Sophia clears her throat, “His name is Jack.”

Miss Ella smiles at Sophia. “Thank you, dear, and you are?”

“I’m Sophia.”

Miss Ella feeds me until the bowl is empty and my stomach full. I want to cry with relief when she places the painkillers in my mouth. I quickly swallow them down with some water.

“My room is the one right by the stairs. If the pain gets to be too much come wake me.” She gathers the dishes and then gives me and Sophia each a pointed look. “You need to eat all your food so your bodies can heal. There’s a lot of work to be done. Everyone works here to earn their keep.” An icy ripple spreads down my spine. Miss Ella looks at Sophia. “As soon as you’re up to it you can help me in the kitchen.” And then she looks at me. “River says you’ve been born with a green thumb. That’s a good thing because no one around here likes to garden, and I’m too old to be playing with flowers. We can do with some color around here, so as soon as you’re better you can fix the gardens up nicely.”

She looks pleased with herself. “Now get a good night’s rest and I’ll see you in the morning.”

I can go on gardening here? Miss Ella said nothing about sex. Come to think of it neither did Mistress and Master Ryland. That doesn’t mean anything! As soon as we’re better they’ll put us to work. After all, Miss Ella said we have to earn our keep.

She’s been in love with reading from an early age. She has a passion for all things books, but she has an ultimate soft spot for nature and animals.

She first tried her hand at writing in early 2009 and as the first words started to form into a book, she knew she was hooked. Dreams spilled onto pages, and that was the beginning of a wonderful journey.

One filled with joy. One filled with passion and heart stopping moments.

But most of all, it’s filled with such pride and peace as a story comes to life, and characters fill your life, living in the very walls of your mind, living in the minds of your readers. There is nothing as satisfying as that.

“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” — Dale Evans

A week before Christmas, Jeseca Reed sets off for Blue River, Oregon—her childhood home and a vault of tender memories. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when she’s left stranded in the mountains’ vast, untamed wilderness. Desperate and alone, she seeks shelter at a cottage and finds herself in the arms of a mysterious stranger.

Dr. David Drake was once a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. But a devastating tragedy has left him scarred both inside and out, unable to use his hands to operate again. For the past five years, his Blue River cottage has been his sole escape—a safe haven where he can shut out the world, bury himself in his grief, and reunite with his son’s memory.

Together they are summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet a poignant connection forms between them. Jeseca awakens David and thaws his heart with a romance hot enough to melt snow. But before David and Jeseca can fully embrace each other, they must wade through darkness and confront the ghosts of their pasts …

Excerpt

David’s enchanting voice swelled the darkness, surrounding Jeseca, gripping onto her senses with a thousand beckoning fingers. They held her captive—and she readily surrendered her freedom.

“We’re like day and night. Summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet something about you whispers my name and echoes inside me …” His mouth found her pulse point. Damp, hot lips nibbled on her skin and sent her wits reeling. “You should have never come in here. It was a mistake.”

“Then tell me to leave and I’ll go,” she replied through a breathy whisper. Her voice sounded thick with desire, hoarse … she hardly recognized it as her own. “And I don’t believe we’re complete opposites,” she said, her words husky and guttural. “I think the real you is hiding.”

Impenetrable silence took hold. Only the howling wind and David’s heavy breathing breached the quiet.

“Should I leave?”

More silence. “No. I need you … I need you to stay with me.” The words emerged from the darkness and wrapped around Jeseca’s heart with the force of a lasso.

He plunged a hand beneath the bathrobe, which had fallen halfway open, and a jarring whoosh of air slammed against her skin. His tongue swirled along her collarbone, branding her flesh with slick, wet shapes. Her heart hammered, and she clutched at the bedsheet as his mouth ventured lower … lower … skirting across the V-line of her plush pajama top. Then his fingers were working the buttons, quickly undoing them and sweeping the soft material aside. Cold air tightened her naked breasts, causing gooseflesh to prickle her skin.

“Stop me if I’m going too fast,” he breathed against her.

Yes, she should stop him. This was wrong. Totally wrong. Instead, all rational thought melted away and she found herself arching against his mouth and tongue. She wanted more—not less. And she wanted him to go faster—not slower …

Wrapped In Lace

Pulling Her Trigger Synopsis

When I was a little boy, the best thing about the holiday season was unwrapping presents on Christmas morning — tearing off the paper and tossing it on the floor. Now that I’m a man, I like to unwrap slowly, deliberately, taking my time to savor what lies before me. I still like to throw the wrapping on the floor, but now I know the best gifts come wrapped in lace.

And unlike when I was a kid, I won’t get sick of this present by New Year’s. I’ll definitely be playing with this girl day after day after day.
After six years avoiding my hometown, the last thing I expected when I returned was a wannabe bad girl to unwrap my heart and rip open my soul. But that’s exactly what happened. Now if I can just get the hell out of my own way, maybe I’ll finally get the best gift of all — her!
Come get unwrapped by Drew this holiday.

I sat back and studied the canvas. I’d finally gotten it right — the way his lips turn up in that smile that makes both my heart and panties melt. It had taken me over a dozen tries to get it just perfect, but I finally had. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel any better. I thought if I could capture Drew’s smile on my canvas, my pain would somehow lessen. Because I’d always have his image, that his leaving me wouldn’t hurt so bad. It hadn’t worked. The pain in my heart was just as sharp, just as overwhelming as it was yesterday and the day before. I knew I’d never get over him. I knew it like I knew the deep blue color of his eyes, the rough spots on his hands. I knew it like I knew the way his lips tasted, the feel of his thick brown hair.

“It’s fine, Jeremy. I promise. I have no problem being the Tod to your Copper. Or the Joey to your Dawson. That’s who I am.” She hesitated for a brief moment. “That’s who I’ll always be. You’re my best friend, Jeremy. It’s okay that you don’t see my boobs. Hell, it’s probably better that way.”
My stomach plummeted and if I was man enough to admit it, my eyes burned with an unexpected rush of tears. I stepped back, out of the streetlight so she couldn’t see me. It was a move she misinterpreted, but before I could find a single ounce of courage, she was waving goodbye and running into her house, leaving me there to watch her go.
Something I never wanted to do again.
It wasn’t until after Sierra left for Ohio and I had a chance to reflect on her words that I realized what she’d said. Dawson and Joey, as of right then, weren’t even speaking. Copper and Tod went their separate ways, and even though their friendship remained, they were still apart for the rest of their lives.
I didn’t want to be Copper anymore. I sure as hell didn’t want to be Dawson.
But it was too late. I’d lost my chance. I’d missed my window. Sierra was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.
Jenna was right.
I was an idiot.

“Wake up.” Freezing water splashes in my face and then there’s a kick to the right side of my ribs. The pain ripping through my head is too much to take. I roll over and clench my eyes shut, gripping for my head.

“Maverik Maddox Slatter, get your ass up now.”
Granddad’s voice rings clear in my throbbing head, and I do everything I can to muster enough energy to sit up against a hay bale. I pull down my straw hat and grumble back at him.

“What in the hell are you doing, son?”

He waits for me to answer but only a few more painful moans escape.

“I’ve watched you destroy your life year by year since Ella left town, and I’m done. She’s back in town and needs support. You going to be a coward or step it up?”

“I love her. I’ve never stopped loving her. I want all of her and can’t control myself around her. It’s just like she walked out of my life yesterday.” I let my hat slide to the ground and grip my temples. “I don’t want her to leave but don’t know how to let myself love her again.”

“Maverik, look at me.”

The silence in the barn is deafening as I pick at the straw coating my jeans. It’s more painful than my throbbing headache and dry mouth.

“Look at me, dammit.”

When I look up, the grief and pain combination covering Granddad’s face is just another dagger to my already wounded heart.

“Then be man enough to give her a chance.” Granddad slowly takes a seat on a bale of hay across from me. “Have you ever flat out asked her why she left?”

“I’m not dumb. She left for the city.”

“There’s your problem, boy, you’re assuming you know all the answers.”

“She basically told me that when I ran into her for a few brief minutes at the rodeo with Challis and Merek.” I do my best to slide up onto the hay bale and sit down, but I don’t miss the shooting pains going off in my head. “She could do nothing but brag about the city life and told me she needed help dodging a date.”

“Dammit, Maverik, you’re not listening to me. You’re assuming everything when it comes to Ella. Now I don’t know why she left, but I do know she loved you just as much as you loved her, and it’s worth finding out.”

I bury my face in the palms of my hands and grunt. I can’t handle any more of Ella and the fucking emotions simmering within me. I want nothing more than to chalk it all up to a pot of bad decisions and move the hell on.

“Can you live the rest of your life without her, Maverik? Will you be okay knowing you let her walk right out of your life this time?”

“No, it killed me the first damn time.” Overwhelming emotions attack my core.

“Then go get her, find out answers, and make a decision from there instead of living in your own personal hell.”

“She left for the city life. I wasn’t enough.”

“Dammit, boy, it’s your choice.”

I watch as he takes his time to stand and hear several of his bones creak and crack as he moves about. I let his message replay over and over in my head as I process the words. When I look back up, Granddad is nearing his front porch and Marvel is by my side in the stable.

“I need help today.”

“I’m here.”

“We need to move some cattle around and help Merek and Challis work the colts. We need to be on them double time from here on out.”

“Okay.” I kick a cloud of dust up in the air, sliding my boot back and forth.

“Saint’s going to be done screwing with us.”

“Saint will never be gone until the day he dies, and then more than likely he’ll leave behind a mini-him. Fuckers like Saint will always be around fucking with the good people.”

“Go change and be ready in twenty minutes. I’ll get your horse ready.”

Marvel storms out the open doors into the sunlight and it’s in this moment I see the Marvel I used to know disappear in front of me. He’s hardened with hatred and stressed beyond belief. Life’s been a bitch to all of us, but I guess the difference between Marvel and myself is that I have the choice to try to fix this shit with Ella, or at least get some unanswered questions resolved.

My tiny bunkhouse is quiet and lonely with lingering memories of sweet Ella gracing it. Just the short time she was here made everything change. I want her here. I want her forever. My heart just has to figure out a way back to her.

I grab my phone and dial the local motel’s number and cringe when I realize I have the number memorized from several nights of inappropriate behavior with strange women. A vicious cycle I used to drown out memories and numb my pain that Ella left me in.

“Wagon Wheel front desk.”

“Um, yeah.” I pause, not really knowing what I want to ask or say.

“Hello? What can I help you with?”

“Ella James’ room please.”

“One moment.”

The phone begins ringing, and I cringe with each ring, still not knowing what I’ll say to her. Ring after ring goes by until it’s cut off.

“Fuck.” I throw down my cell phone, start my coffee pot, and head for the shower.

The cold water stuns every single one of my senses as well as brings my sore muscles to life. Cuts and bruises begin to sting the longer I stand under the spray of water. My hand stops over my chest, right above my heart, and I hear my granddad’s words again, encouraging me to find out the reasons Ella left. I could argue back with well over a dozen reasons not to, but something clicks in my mind. I’m going for her and not giving up this time.

I race out of the shower, dry off, and throw on my riding clothes. Snagging the hot and very full coffee pot, I dash to Granddad’s porch where he’s sitting and begin speaking before he has a chance to. I feel Jake settle between my legs but don’t even take the time to pat his head.

“You’re right.” I fill his empty black coffee mug and then sit down next to him. “I have to end this hate relationship I have for Ella and accept why she moved.”

“You do.” He nods and takes a long sip from his mug.

“I’m going to need you by my side. I’m afraid she’s going to shatter me again. Fuck. I’ve been shattered for years now.”

“Maverik, I’d rather have a broken boy who can heal than a bitter bastard who’s going to waste away the rest of his life in hatred.”

“I hear you. I do.” My hand finds the top of Jake’s head. “I just don’t think I can let her go if I give in.”

“Then don’t let her go, dammit. We all make mistakes, son. Move on.”

“Let’s go.” I look up to see my brother with my horse saddled and him atop his.

“I’ll do it.” I brave a smile when I turn to Granddad and don’t miss his beaming face. “Thanks, old man. I’ll grab my coffee pot after dinner.”

My boots are deafening as they pound the sidewalk down to the gravel road where my horse stands. With each step, I feel like a coward with the thoughts of what I’m about to let my heart do, but I know it’s the right thing. I fucking love Ella and looks like I have one chance to get her back in my life.

“What was that all about?” Marvel tilts his head to one side.

“Oh, just Granddad making me do the right thing.” I throw a foot up into a stirrup, grip onto the horn of my saddle, and settle down on the back of Chili. I smile knowing Marvel saddled up my favorite horse. He’s been around since my high school days and I used to calf rope and team rope off of him before saddle bronc became too addicting. Ella loved Chili.

I kick him into a slow trot and realize every single thought that passes through my mind always goes back to Ella, even before she came home. Marvel keeps up by my side as we let our horses go at full gait to the back pasture. The crisp air, the sound of pounding hooves, and the smell of the ranch all calm each of my senses, causing me to breathe in deep and exhale.

Merek and Challis’s happy faces flash before my eyes. I see my granddad rocking happily on his porch and Marvel working his fingers to the bone on the ranch he loves. Then I see me on the tailgate of my truck holding a cold beer and petting Jake. The scene immediately makes my stomach turn because it’s not the right ending for me and never has been.

“There they are.” Marvel points over to a herd of black cattle.

I follow behind him as he rides up to them. We begin gathering them up one by one and I watch and listen to old Jake work his heart up gathering the cattle. Several minutes go by before they group together and we begin trailing them back toward the barn and corrals.

I’m going for her. I’m going for her. I chant over and over in my head as Chili trots behind the herd rhythmically, lulling me back into an Ella induced trance.

Re•sent•ment (noun)

The act of hating – no, fucking loathing Dean Collins. (Yes, I’m well aware that’s not the actual definition, but it might as well be…)

It’s been ten years since we’ve seen each other and the feelings are still as strong.

I’m not going to bore you with all the details of how our love was once intoxicating, consuming, and perfect.

Because it was . . . until it wasn’t.

I’ve been fine without him. I haven’t missed his cruelty, his coldness and his spite.

And after the ugliest breakup in the history of breakups, I forced myself to move on.

Year by year, the feelings I had for him slowly drifted away, but one encounter with him recently changed everything. One encounter made me realize how the heart doesn’t forget shit, and how my mind is going to have to work overtime to make sure I never forget my definition of resentment.

“Are you coming to the pep rally tonight?” he asks.

“Probably not.”

“Why?”

“School spirit isn’t really my thing. No offense, but…football isn’t either.”

He laughs, and I suddenly realize that the two of us have never talked about football during our sessions together. In fact, whenever I’ve brought it up, he’s changed the subject to something else.

“Well,” he says, letting my hand go. “You should come for me instead.”

“What? What do you mean?”

“I mean, since you’re not into school spirit or football, but you’re clearly into me, you can make an exception and come tonight.”

“You’re getting quite presumptuous lately.” I put on my best poker face. “Do I need to help you with that definition?”

“Not when I know the true word you’re looking for is cognizant.” He grins, stepping back. “I hope to see you tonight.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“I’m sure you always do.” He gives me a look so sexy that I almost melt into the floor.

He thought he could handle anything that was thrown his way. He thought running my security detail would be the easiest job he’d ever had. He thought he’d be able to keep me safe without getting attached.

He was wrong.

They call me reckless, selfish, and slutty. In reality, I’ve just stopped caring what everyone else thinks. I’m determined to have some fun, to live life my way, and to make Mike realize that being a little selfish isn’t the worst thing in the world.

I think we both have our work cut out for us.

The knock on the door drifted through my dreams, but I wasn’t ready to greet the day. An arm tightened around me, bringing my back closer to a toned chest, and I smiled. Last night had been amazing. So had this morning when Mike had woken me up with his tongue.

There were many things I’d seen while on tour with Nate—national monuments, wonders of the world, Mother Nature’s miracles. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was better than waking up to the view of Mike’s face between my thighs. The thought alone had me squeezing my legs together and pushing back into his warmth.

I had just started to drift back into unconsciousness when a door shut somewhere in the distance.

“Wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey!” Lia’s voice, way too perky that early in the morning, called out from the porch.

Mike growled out an inaudible response in his sleep, and I smiled, in complete agreement. When she called again, though, my subconscious wouldn’t let me ignore it and I was suddenly very awake. And very naked. Next to an equally bare Mike. I sat up in a panic.

Lia was leaning against the open French doors, laughing silently. “Morning, sunshine.”

Not only was she too energetic after drinking as much as she had the night before, she was too fucking happy about walking in on us. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

Her laughter bubbled out. “No?”

Before I could answer, a thick arm wrapped itself around my waist, making me jump in surprise, and pulled me back to the bed. Rolling over me, so his back was to the door, sheltering me, he kissed the tip of my nose. “Hello, beautiful.” He didn’t let me respond before he lifted his middle finger toward our friend. “It’s exactly what it looks like. Now fuck off.”

“I really wish I could.” The joy in her voice was clear, making me roll my eyes. “But we have to be on the road in fifteen minutes.”

“Ever hear of a fucking phone?” Mike asked, irritation clear.

Lia actually tsked at him, the way a mother or sister would. “Somebody didn’t get enough sleep last night.”

“I swear to fucking Christ, Lee…” Mike growled back.

Lia either didn’t take the threat seriously, or she didn’t care, laughing again. “Both of your phones went straight to voice mail, so I volunteered to come down and get you.” Clapping her hands, she continued. “Up, up. We’ve gotta get moving.”

Mike rolled his eyes. “Do not move.” Looking over his shoulder, he spoke to her. “I’m not getting out of this bed until you leave.”

“Please. It isn’t like I haven’t seen it before.”

Mike’s head jerked back to me when my body stiffened as the shock of that statement rocked me to my core.

“No.” He shook his head, reading my thoughts. “No.” I felt the blood drain from my face as a million different thoughts flooded my mind. A giant palm cupped my cheek and he leaned in to kiss me, as if trying to force my panic away. His thumb slid over my cheek as he spoke, “Clarify that, Lee.”

ExcerptgreenMarcy’s POV:

When she turned, his dark hair and deep blue eyes threw her off-balance for a bit. He was stuffed into jeans that were baggy at the calves and knees, but well filled out in the butt and groin area. And he’d caught her checking him out.

His eyes smiled while his lips didn’t move except for a tiny muscle on his left, which was a good thing. The resulting dimple at the left side of his mouth was giving her palpitations.

Well, of course he’s handsome, Marcy. What did you expect?

He smelled of fresh soap, wore a white button-down shirt with rolled-up long sleeves, showing his corded muscles and multiple forearm tats, including a string of frog prints going from his wrist to the crook in his arm. She was glad she’d decided to wear her dark blue suit, her power suit. She needed the strength and resolve it gave her.

Blurb

Tucker Winslow was twenty-four, and the only son of a 4-Star Navy Admiral. His Father always expected that Tucker would follow in his footsteps, but he had other plans. He had his sights set on moving to Alaska and following his lifelong dream of fishing for king crab on the Bering Sea. He was charming, witty, and his Mom was always his best friend. Then she became ill, and his whole world was turned upside down. They spent her last month’s laughing, and singing the wrong lyrics to 80’s music, just like they’d always done.
Gracie Madison married the man of her dreams when she was only twenty-two. Now, thirteen years later, she was a widow, trying to figure out how to get by without her best friend. She loves 80’s music, driving with the top down, and snacking on greasy food. Her sister’s family lives in Seattle, and they’ve finally persuaded Gracie to throw caution to the wind and leave Boston behind.
Both hop in their cars and head for the Northwest Territory. But, when Tucker’s car breaks down he is forced to hitch-hike the rest of the way. When these two meet, the bond is instantaneous. Their losses connect them in a way that’s impossible to ignore, and they form a friendship that helps soothe wounds that go far too deep to heal. They laugh, they cry, they blast 80’s music and sing off-key, and they stop at every tourist trap they can find along the way. Then, as it always does, one night their laughter turns to lust and they both give in, knowing it will change everything they’ve come to rely on.
Losing someone you know and love can be the hardest thing in the world. So why does losing someone you’ve just met, yet have come to depend on, hurt twice as much?
Join Tucker and Gracie as they embark upon the adventure of a lifetime, and end up on a journey toward finding happiness in a world that was once filled with pain.

“How did you know this song always makes me happy?”  She turned to me and flashed the most breathtaking smile I’d seen her produce.  She really was quite striking.  There was something about her eyes that always seemed to lure me in.  There was an innocence to her, yet I could tell there was  a wildcat lurking just beneath the surface.  Since we were going to be together for the next week, I was going to make it my mission to bring that cat out of hiding.  Yep, by the time we reached Seattle, I had every intention of showing Gracie Madison just how much fun it could be to cut loose and remember how to have fun.  Hell, God knows we both could use a little taste of it.

“No one can resist Rebel Yell.  Remember the video?”  I did my best Billy Idol impression, complete with lip curl and growl, and that made her laugh.  She had a beautiful rich laugh.  I vowed then and there to make her laugh more often.  After all, this trip was about chasing our dreams and finding our happy place.  Right now listening to her laugh as she sang along with Billy, I felt pretty damn happy.

“More, more, more.  Owwww!”  Her little fist pumped into the air as if to punctuate each word.

“You ever call that out? During sex, I mean.” I asked casually, not expecting her to answer, but still hoping to make her blush.  I’ll admit I was surprised when, rather than getting all flustered like she usually did, she actually answered.

“You mean beg for more?”  She stole a quick glance in my direction and I gave a single nod.  “Oh yeah,” her voice went really husky, and I could tell she was playing along, “all the time.”  She flashed me a sexy wink, then threw my question right back at me.  “What about you, stud? You ever beg the girls for more?”

“Only when they’re doin’ it right, sweetheart.”  I chuckled softly, enjoying the fact that I could still make out the flush on her cheeks, despite it being dark outside.  My eye caught the sight of flashing blue and red lights in my side mirror.  I twisted in my seat, seeing that the cop was not far behind us, then cast my eyes toward the speedometer.  Fifteen over.  Shit.  This did not look good.  “Um, Gracie, you planning on stopping anytime soon?”

Gracie & Tucker Interview

Hello Everyone!!  I’m Melissa with Alpha Book Club and I’m here today to interview the amazing Gracie and Tucker from Alaska Or Bust!!  I’m so excited to dig deep into their brains and really get the answers we’ve all be wanting to know.  So hang on and let’s go!
Tucker
What’s your favorite thing about Gracie??
No brainer – It’s gotta be her killer smile. Have you seen it?
I have and it is breathtaking!!  I can see why you fell in love with her. (I won’t lie, Tucker does make me blush like a 2nd grade girl!!  He’s gorgeous)
What would your mom love about Gracie??
Everything.
(I give him a look) Really?
What? You want me to narrow it down to just one?
Well, then I guess it would be her love of 80’s music. I always thought my Mom’s love for the stuff ran deep, but Gracie could have given her a run for her money.
There’s really nothing better than 80’s music.  So I have to agree with your mom and Gracie there!!
(He winks at me, I think I just melted!!! Swoon!)
How has being a dad changed your life?
I think it’s given me a deeper appreciation for my parents, especially my Dad. My Mom always had what I would now call an “in your face” method to parenting. She was always there and she always had a kind word to offer. But my Dad, he was the silent one in the background. His words weren’t always what I wanted to hear, but they were what I probably needed to hear. And he was always there for me, even when he was absent. I never understood that until I had kids of my own.
That’s really beautiful Tucker!!  I agree, you never really understand until you have kids of your own!
What was your favorite memory of your road trip??  (Besides the obvious)
Sex in Seattle. Ow! Why’d you just hit me? (rubs the back of his head).
(I can’t help but chuckle, I sort of set him up for that answer….oops)
Geez, babe, you can’t just blurt that out. She said ‘besides the obvious’. There have to be other moments that stick out in your memory. (Gracie quietly admonishes him)
Fine. I have a lot to choose from. Hmm… Let me think…
Oh, yeah. Spud’s Drive-In because we joked about my big and juicy wiener, and it was where I kissed her for the first time, with my lips AND my tongue. It was pretty amazing.
I have to admit, I think Spud’s was my favorite part as well!!  And well, the wiener banter was hilarious!!!  I still laugh when I think about it!!
What song reminds you of Gracie the minute you hear it??
That would have to be Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. Yeah, most people would automatically think of the Toni Basil song, because of our wedding, but Billy is where it’s at. It was the first time she showed me her wild side, and I loved it.
Billy is definitely where it’s at!!!  I will agree to that!!  But I may be biased since I’m a huge fan and all!!  Can you do the lip curl for me?? (I almost fall over when Tucker obliges and does the Billy Idol lip curl for me)
If you could change anything about your trip what would it be?
Whoa, that’s a tough one. I loved our trip, and I wouldn’t change a thing about where we stopped, or what we did. I guess if there was one thing I sometimes wish could have been different it would have to be that I told her I was going to Alaska. You know, I used to think that if my sign had said Seattle or Bust she never would have left me, and I wouldn’t have missed a whole year of holding her in my arms and telling her that she’s the only thing I ever needed. But, I can’t change the past, and I have some pretty awesome memories of my time in Alaska, so I guess that things happened for a reason.
I just make sure to hold her extra tight now, because there’s no way in hell I’m ever letting her go again.
I don’t blame you she’s quite a catch!!!  You got lucky with her!!
Are you and Gracie planning on more kids??
I don’t know, we have sex an awful lot, and we already know my guys can swim up that stream. Ow! Stop hitting me! (rubs his head again)
I’d love to have more kids, but Gracie says her eggs are getting too old. (he laughs wickedly, ducking this time to dodge her swinging hand)
You two are so damn cute!!!  I just can’t get over how perfect you both are together!!  Okay that’s all my questions for you (for now) Tucker!!  You’re not off the hook yet!!  Ha!
Now on to Gracie!  I have so many questions for you and your trip!  And I’m so happy to finally meet you, I feel like I know you already after reading your story!!!
Gracie
What’s your favorite thing about Tucker??
Well, seeing as how he’s being a poop-head right now that’s a hard one.
What? You are being a bit of an ass.
(she looks over and he gives her a playful wink, eliciting the million dollar smile he was referring to earlier, and now I understand)
There are many things about Tucker that made me fall in love with him, but one of my favorites would have to be the tender way he treats me. From the moment we met he just had this way about him that screamed “good guy.” You know? When he looked at me, it was almost as if he could see right through me, and then he would hold me as if he were trying to heal all of my scars.
I think I knew that he loved me long before he ever figured it out, and the funny thing was that I now know that I loved him too. It was kind of like that insta-love, but the fog of our lives hadn’t cleared enough for us to figure it out.
Tucker definitely gives off that good guy vibe!!  And nowadays that’s a rarity!!  Good find you got there Gracie!!  I know a lot of girls would love to have what you have!!
What would Matthew love about Tucker?
Matthew Madison was someone special. He was my first love. Tucker’s okay with that. He knows that he is my forever love.
It was always important to Matthew that I was happy. In fact, he would go out of his way to put a smile on my face. Tucker is that same way. He would go to the ends of the earth to make me smile, anything to make me laugh. He used to call it his mission. Now he just calls it his normal.
When I lost Matthew it felt as though my entire world was tipped on its axis, and no matter how much time had passed I still felt this hollow feeling inside of me, and it chilled me to the bone. That first night we met, when I had that breakdown on the side of the road, Tucker held me in his arms and the cold just sort of disappeared.
Matthew would love that Tucker is taking care of me, picking up where he left off.
Oh my gosh that’s so beautiful!!!  (grabs tissue to dab my eyes)  It’s almost as if Matthew picked Tucker for you, at least that’s the way I see it!!  And he did a great job picking, if you ask me! Which brings me to my next question……
Do you believe Matthew sent Tucker to you?
Without a doubt. That’s part of the reason it was so easy to fall in love with Tucker. The guilt I felt was of my own making. Matthew and Lana both had their hands in getting us together, and once we both accepted that the rest was easy.
How has your life changed since you’ve become a mom?
Ohmygosh, it’s like nothing I could have ever planned for. You spend your entire life looking out for yourself, then all of a sudden your needs seem as insignificant as dandelion weeds that fly through the air.
Finding out that I was pregnant was pretty scary, knowing that I was going to go it alone, but I loved every minute of my pregnancy. Seeing her face after she was born, it took my breath away. Having Tucker by my side when I was pregnant, and giving birth, to J.T. was something I will treasure always.
But holding our kids, watching them grow up, and teaching them about joy and love, it’s the best feeling in the world.
Being a mother myself, I couldn’t agree with you more!!! It changes everything!!
What is your favorite memory of your road trip with Tucker?
Like Tucker, I have so many…
I can’t choose just one, so I won’t.
Hey! No fair. Why does she get to cheat? (Tucker straddles the chair Gracie is sitting in and covers her mouth, trying to prevent her from speaking – but it’s no use because she always gets what she wants and he loves her)
Singing together in the car
Tucker teaching me how to shoot a gun
The Giant Ball of Twine in Cawker City
Why Cawker City? (Tucker interrupts. He drops his hand and gives her a look)
Because, that’s where you dry humped me, and got me all hot and bothered for you. And you’ve been doing it ever since.
Aww, thanks Oakley. I feel the same way about you too. (mushy kissing starts up)
I swear you both are so adorable!!!  I hate to interrupt the kissing but I have more questions
What song reminds you of Tucker the minute you hear it?
Heaven by Bryan Adams. Something about the lyrics to that song just scream Tucker Winslow.
Oh my gosh, that is my favorite Bryan Adams song!!  This is scary……we have way to much in common!!! (laughs)  The lyrics are pretty perfect and I can see how it screams Tucker Winslow!!
Would you change anything about your trip?
Hmm… Two things come to mind.
I really think we should have backtracked to Dorothy’s House of Oz while we were in Kansas. I’m dying to see those flying monkeys.
Aww, baby, I’ve got your flying monkey right here. (he gives her another jaunty wink.  He’s so cute…..I can really understand why she fell in love with Tucker!)
Tucker! Stop it! Sorry…
(Laughs) No it’s fine……I’m enjoying this banter between you two!
But the part I really wish I could change would have been when I told him to stop at the drive-in. Because my telling him no led us to that ridiculous dinner date in Couer d’Alene, and ultimately my walking out of that hotel room without saying goodbye.
I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason!!  So there was a reason that all happened and look you and Tucker still found your way back to each other!!
It’s okay, Oakley, it all worked out.
(he gives her a squeeze while placing a soft kiss on her temple. It’s clear these two are very much in love and happy).
Are you planning on having more kids??
You heard the man earlier, I think I’m ready to kick back and enjoy what I have right now. But let’s just say that if one of his boys did break through to the other side I wouldn’t be disappointed. The more the merrier, right?
I would agree but I have three……and I love them to pieces, but they are a handful at times!!  Thank you for your time Gracie, now if you don’t mind I have questions for the both of you and then I’ll let you guys get back to your babies!  Ha
Both
Out of all the states you visited which one was your favorite??
Tucker: Arkansas
Gracie: Definitely Arkansas
I love that you both loved Arkansas. (They both look at each other smiling)
Which stop was your favorite?? You can only pick one!
Tucker: Diamond John’s
Gracie: Ball of Twine
Have you sat and watched The Longest Ride, since that night at the drive in??
Tucker: Yep, only this time I got to put my arm around her shoulder and we made up our own love scenes (waggles eyebrows)
Gracie: Yeah, what he said (giggles uncontrollably)
That’s great!! (laughing)
If you could have a date night anywhere (without kids) where would you two go and do?
Tucker: I’d take her out to a club in Downtown Seattle. I hear they have an awesome 80’s night.
Gracie: I think I’d enjoy a quiet dinner at home, followed by a hot bath and a relaxing night in bed.
Tucker: Can I change my answer? What she said.
Nope your answer stands Tucker!!!  I think those are both great dates and ones you should both definitely try to set up for each other!!!
Are we done here? Come on, Gracie, your sister still has the kids for another two hours and I’m suddenly in the mood to take a bath…
Yeah we are done.  Thanks again Tucker and Gracie for the fun and dare I say unpredictable interview!!  You’ve definitely answered all my questions and then some!  Enjoy that bath!!!

Synopsis

Stevie is a tattoo artist and a free spirit. She’s covered in tattoos, cusses like a sailor, and is quite brash. She lives payday to payday, can barely pay her rent, and uses a bicycle as her only mode of transportation. Every man in her sordid past has abused her, and she’s reached the end of her rope. Only attracted to tattooed alpha males, and primarily bikers, she begins to wonder if her choices in men have been poor. One day as she stands in a torrential downpour without a ride, a handsome man in a suit offers her a lift in his Porsche.

And she can’t help but wonder…

Wilson is a successful businessman and a self-made millionaire. He’s handsome, intelligent, loyal, and unlike many other men with similar interests and wealth, he’s got an extremely colorful personality.

But he also has a secret.

While having one of the worst days of his life, he meets Stevie. Immediately, his views on matters, and on life, change.

And he chooses to change her life in return.

But Stevie and Wilson are from two totally different worlds – worlds that historically don’t mesh well.

Can a self-made millionaire find love in someone who has nothing to offer him but herself?

Can a woman who has only known pain, abuse, and inconsistency see value in stability and sincerity?

Quite possibly only if both halves are willing to meet somewhere in the middle.
