Georgie

I lie to survive.

Have since I was sixteen and my world fell into chaos. But I found a way to endure, or rather it found me. Now I’m a prisoner of my own doing, hiding behind a false mask so no one sees the truth. Not even the man I want but can’t have—Deck. But I messed up and the lies are spilling over, out of control.

Deck is unrelenting and will settle for nothing less than the truth. He demands everything from me—EVERYTHING—even if it rips me apart.

DECK

I kill for a living.

Unyielding—It’s how I survive in my line of work. I bend people to my will…except Georgie.
But that ends now.
I’ve played her game for far too long, but not anymore. Now I think it’s time we play mine.

*18+ due to sexual content, strong language and violence.

When I saw this book and then read part of the synopsis (I never read synopsis if I do it’s normally the first few lines, I feel like it takes away from the book. I know weirdo here) I knew it was a book I had to read. I can’t tell you how glad to have followed my first thoughts on this one. Amazingly written! I was taken in and not turned loose by this book. There is so much suspense and excitement that you can’t put this book down.

Georgie is a sassy take charge and not let go person. She takes and gives as good as she gets. She has a soft side that she refuse to let show. Deck on the other hand is a hard ass one that you are not going to meet in a dark alley. Once he has his mind set there is no changing it. He gets what he wants anyway he has to. They both are keeping secrets from each other, feeling they are protecting each other when it is just pulling them apart. Friends is what they keep telling themselves is all that will be between them, the attraction that is there is saying otherwise.

This one is going on my top reads this year!

WOW!!!

Jasinda and Jack have done it again!!! This is a must read. I was blown away with how great this book was. You’re going to laugh, cry and scream. There so much to say about this book, but not sure how to say it that will do it justice. This book really brings home a lot of things that we take for grant in life and don’t think much about. I’m always drawn to a book that deals with military, one because it makes me think about how lucky I am and two because it make me appreciate just what our military does for us. This is wonderful heart tugging story done the only way Jasinda and Jack could have done it by pulling out the true emotions that one might go through.

Synopsisblue

You go into combat, you fear death. It’s what keeps you careful, keeps you alive. I’ve faced death more times than I can count. I’ve taken bullets. I’ve taken lives.

But nothing can prepare me for the soul-crushing terror of being captured.

***

I married a Marine. I knew the risks. Every time my husband shipped out, I knew there was a chance he wouldn’t come back. But Thomas always did. Always. Then one day two officers in full dress uniform knocked on my door and shattered my world.

How do you keep going when you lose what made life worth living?

THIS IS A STEAMY ONE

Friday couldn’t come fast enough for Tyler. He boarded the plane from San Diego and in just under two

hours touched down at Schulz International Airport. Kate ran to him as soon as he entered the small

terminal. He dropped his bag and accepted her body slam willingly.

His heart was overjoyed. He’d been heavy with worry she’d call him and postpone their get together,

and he’d have to go out of country without being with her one more time.

Her lips were urgent. She clung to him with fierce need, which was just about the biggest turn-on and

something he hadn’t dared to dream was possible. He felt her need match and melt into his as the

steamy sparks flew and his hands smoothed over her satin skin. Her sweet softness and fresh scent

given up to him so willingly, so utterly compliant made him wish somehow his deployment was over,

that this was the homecoming he’d get when he could finally stay for more than just two nights.

Two little nights! It’s all they had left. He wanted to see everything about where she grew up, meet her

folks. Even take a good look at her asshole of a former fiancé and let him know that he was the man

he’d have to answer to if the guy had any designs on her. Of course, he was all in. And, thank the God of

SEALs, it looked like she wanted him right there next to her as tight as they could get.

“Baby it was way too long. We should just go runaway,” he kissed into her hair at the side of her head.

“We could disappear. Wanna disappear?”

That little giggle as she snuggled under his chin, as her arms came up his back, pulling him into her. Her

fingers migrated to comb through the curls at the top of his spine, stroking and squeezing. Her hard

pubic bone rode his shaft through his jeans. He pressed her there, hurting with need, and then just

hurting.

“If you weren’t the man I know you to be, Tyler, I’d take you up on it. God I wish I had a few million

stashed away somewhere so we could just do that. But we have this.” She stood on tiptoes and placed

her succulent lips across his.

“And this is pretty damned good, baby.”

“The best.”

With one arm wrapped tight about her waist he practically carried her through the glass doors of the

terminal to the parking lot beyond, slinging his bag over his left shoulder. Her feet barely touched the

floor. She hung onto his shoulders, using her right thigh to gently balance against his hipbone as he

walked. She wasn’t light, but he’d carry her all the way to San Francisco if she’d let him. And heck, he

and his buddies had carried telephone poles up and down the goddamned beach in a full run in combat

boots without hardly breaking a sweat.

She’d started to get out her keys and he swiped them from her, giving her another kiss when she

showed that fresh smile again. He stowed his bag in the hatch and they drove toward the freeway,

heading north.

He found the little town of Healdsburg to be charming, reminding him of some of the villages in the

South of France, or New England where shops surrounded a lawn square complete with a gazebo and

park benches. The square was a gathering place, and he noted the foot traffic was so thick, maneuvering

the car to make a right turn as she had instructed, was tricky.

They drove down a wide street with grand houses, most of them early California or large bungalow

style. At a light green mansion, she ordered him to turn right and pointed around the corner to the back

of the property, where he located a lemon yellow cottage.

“Nice, Kate. Love it.”

“Thank you.” She said bashfully. He could see she was thinking about what they’d be doing just as soon

as he got them properly naked. He liked that she was shy, that her cheeks had that just-kissed blush on

her fair peachy skin. She stole little glances at him which set his insides on fire. He’d never wanted a

woman more.

“Be true to yourself, Ellie Mae. Follow your heart,” she whispers before kissing my cheek, letting our cheeks linger together for a moment after as the side door opens to the guys’ laughter. I can pick my brother out even before I see him, the infectious nature of his chuckle filling the house. I take a deep breath before releasing my cousin and turning around, facing my future head on while holding my head high.

“Ellie!” Jack shouts and I don’t hide the wide smile as my brother is throwing his arms open, inviting me to jump into them just like he has since we were little and I don’t hesitate. Walking quickly to him, I take in his built stature. He’s more muscular than I remember, but that goes hand in hand with the work I can only imagine he’s done. “God, girl, you’re skinny! Haven’t you been eatin’?”

I punch him in the arm before throwing my arms around his neck as he lifts me off the floor, spinning me around, making me giggle. “I’ve missed you, Jacky.” I joke with the nickname he’s always hated and kiss him on the cheek as he sets me down. He shakes his head at me, moving away and greeting Rhea and little Charlie and I’m suddenly aware of the other person, standing behind me in the living room. I can feel his eyes on the back of my head and my heart feels like it is being rung out by someone with claws for hands.

“Hello, Ellie Mae,” he whispers, the smooth voice making me want to melt. But I take a deep breath and hold it all in as I turn, looking up into those hazel eyes. He’s in a jacket and jeans, but he still looks like the same fit Bobby as he was before, his stare roaming over me as I say nothing, just nod at him. He shoves his hands inside of his pockets, shifting from his left foot to his right and I wonder what he’s feeling inside, if anything.

“Hello, Bobby,” I say, but not without a little scratch evident and I try and clear it away as fast as I can with a cough, fighting the tears still trying to break loose. I will not cry tonight, at least not in front of him.

“Uh…it’s good to see you again,” he stammers out, finally dropping his gaze to his boots, alleviating the pressure and blush that has taken me over.

It’s good to see me again? That’s all he can think of to say? I giggle out an incredulous laugh, causing him to snap his eyes back to mine as I’m shaking my head in disbelief. I will not let him see me cry, I keep telling myself as I turn and hear Jack issuing his see you laters to Rhea and Chad. That’s my cue to get out of here.

“Jack, you got a place to stay the night or do you wanna stay at my place? It’s not much, but I have a pull out couch and I can fix it up for ya.” I nod for him to follow me as I head for the door and he’s right behind me, followed by Bobby. God, I need the cool fresh air. I wave to Rhea before facing the dark and the borderline freezing air burns in my lungs.

“Yeah I’m stayin’ with Timmons right down the street.” I stop at the bottom of the steps and give him a questioning look. He points down the street to the SOLD sign displayed on the old Pullman house. I did notice that a couple of days ago, but Rhea had no idea when I asked her about it. Great.

“Alright, well I gotta get home,” is all I say and my brother’s grey eyes seem to invade my thoughts, even now in the dark with the only light coming from the porch bulb. He grasps my shoulder, gently squeezing and I know he knows I’m hurting, but thankfully he just nods, giving me the famous Jack smirk and kissing me on the forehead.

“I’ll see ya tomorrow, lil’ sis. Come by and get me and we’ll do breakfast?” He smiles again, poking me in the ribs lightly over and over again, knowing it’ll make me giggle and it does as I try to block his prodding. I nod and he stops, looking between Bobby and me and taking a deep breath, rubbing his hand over the back of his head. “Alright, well…I’ll leave you two, well…I’ll see ya tomorrow, Sis.” He winks at me and grabs a duffel bag from the sidewalk, but I don’t miss the look on Bobby’s face as Jack passes him. He must be issuing one of those big brother warnings because Bobby nods slightly before Jack picks up his pace to a jog, disappearing down the street into the dark.

I’m on the edge of breaking down, right here and right now, but I can’t do that. I’m not strong enough to talk to him right now, so I turn and head for the driver’s door of my Berretta. Yanking it open, I freeze when the whiskey-like voice says, “Ellie, wait!”

I stop, I can’t help it; his voice has this pull on me like some kind of magnet. His long shadow falls over the stones to my side, but I don’t turn around. The tightness in my chest is almost unbearable and my breathing is uncontrollable. I know he can hear me gasping for breath and I see the outline of his hand come up, reaching out to me; but then it falls back to his side.

“I can’t talk to you right now, Bobby. I thought I could, but it’s… it’s just too hard,” I gasp out, the tears finally breaking through and running down my cheeks, hot and fast. I’m shaking as I grip the door handle and I hate myself for being such a sniveling weakling right now. Just turn around and talk to him! Yell, scream, it doesn’t fucking matter, just don’t run!

“Okay,” I hear whispered from behind me, sounding so defeated and small and I can’t take it. I throw myself into my car and bring it to life as fast as I can. The tears are flowing like rain as I pull out from the street and step on it, not caring about my speed right now. I can’t fucking breathe.
