A growl from low in his throat threatened to escape. The rumble started in his chest, and he fought to keep it down.
She turned, looking down at him. “Did you say something?”
“Umm, no. Just clearing my throat.”
He needed to get his base instincts under control. Recent research showed that wolves in the wild killed in order to protect their domains and to get more space. He didn’t want to be ruled by his wolf. He’d grown up in the city, with humans, not out in the forest. His mom had tried to talk to him about shifting, but as a woman, she didn’t have the same experience.
He couldn’t go to a shifters anonymous group for help with his sexual urges. Maybe he needed to start his own support group. He snorted at the idea. At the top of the landing, Tala turned to the right, and he followed.

“Well, it has been. But it’s the nicest room in the house, and as a guest, figure you should have it to be comfortable. I’ll move my things into another one.”
He waved his hands in front of him, as if shooing away something physically bad. “No way. No can do. Give me the second best, then. My first job can be fixing it up.”
She smiled. “Well, second best would be my brother’s room, and even though he’s on a trip right now, I don’t feel comfortable moving his stuff. So third best, and we work today to make it more, um, livable?”

She slays me.
When she opens the door, the effect she has on me is comparable to being sacked on the football field—no joke. Every time I see her, whether the time lapse is a day, a week, or five minutes, it’s the same. She’s just so freaking beautiful.
She’s identical to my best friend’s girl. They’ve got some crazy attractive combination of ethnicities happening, making them both unique and worthy of a double take. I think their dad is a mix between African American and some sort of French Canadian background, while their mom is of Pacific Islander decent. Avery always says that their mother is to thank for her long black hair. I do her one better and thank God for their mother, their grandmother and their grandfather, too.
For a while, I couldn’t tell the difference between Avery and Addison. I’d always found them attractive, but because I couldn’t tell them apart, I never thought to pursue anything, from fear that I’d end up hitting on Beck’s girl. Then I got to know them—and while they are a lot alike, they are also incredibly different. Not that my ability to tell them apart mattered at that point. By the time I realized that I liked her as more than a friend, it was quite clear that she deserves far better than the likes of me…
But that doesn’t mean that I can’t look.
She’s more than a foot shorter than me; and even though I know she’s got her own little bit of strength, evident in her toned muscles gained from years of running and carrying that cello of hers, she’s so petite and delicate. When the waitress leaves her after delivering Ayden her food, I walk over and just as she’s about to take a bite, she looks up and we make eye contact. “There’s nothing left to say. I know what’s been going on, my mom’s kept me updated on everything. I don’t need you to repeat it to me, I’m good. We don’t have to act like we are friends.” I know she doesn’t mean it. She’s trying to hold back her tears and her lower lip is quivering.
“As you wish Sweet Cheeks. But it will happen very soon… you can bet on it.” I look into her eyes. Showing her I’m very serious about this talk we need to have. I want to have our talk now but I don’t want to scare her away even more. The last thing I want is for her to leave town again. It would kill me. “Have a nice day.” I take a sip of her drink, wink at her, and bend down to kiss her cheek—her soft skin is like heaven. I make my way out of the restaurant knowing I managed to get her attention and that she won’t forget I exist anytime soon. I just can’t wait to be able to talk with her and lay it all out.

Ten Fun Facts about Muriel
1. I’m terrified of clowns, dolls, puppets.
2. I did competitive swimming when I was younger.
3. I used to loath reading when I was in high school.
4. I was part of a theatre group and an improv one.

6. I studied to be a filmmaker. (Clearly it didn’t go as planned!)

Muriel Garcia grew up in Belgium. She loves music, tattoos—especially on hot men, traveling, and cooking. She has always had an overly imaginative and creative mind but never thought of writing a book until a couple of months ago. Now she couldn’t imagine not writing stories that are near and dear to her heart.

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.
