Velli leaned out the window, following the rustle of trees toward the parking lot three houses away. “Someone is here!”

“Silver Fox said we were expecting a Tribe member home. Perhaps that is him. Don’t you worry, your Chief will greet him.” Elu chuckled. “My husband is looking forward to meeting this Tribe member.”

“Is that the Healer?” The butterflies that had been absent sprang to life. Something new; something different. Now that she could get excited about. “The one that has been in the States in their military? Isn’t he the oldest living Shifter? Like over two hundred years old or something?”

“Yes. I believe that’s him. Kane was his original name, I’m not sure if he’ll be using that. He and his mate wished to return to a Tribal home.” Snowbird kept her curiosity restrained, but her head did pop out the window to look toward the parking lot.

“His mate. Melik said she was a descendant of the extinct Asian Tribe. That’s something totally unique – alongside the uniqueness of a Healer? I have to see that!”

“Nirvelli.” Snowbird might have been shaking her head, but her smile belied the amusement she contained. “You have a party downstairs. For your wedding.”

“I’ve never been into that girly stuff, Mother. Please?” Velli clasped her hand. “Nothing new or exciting ever happens here. I just want to see what a two hundred year old man and a descendant of the Asian Tribe look like. I won’t be long. Please.”

“Oh let her go.” Elu’s soft laughter filled the moment of hesitation. “If we were her age we’d be doing the same thing. We’ve just learned patience in our old age.”

The moment Snowbird nodded Velli leapt out the window. After an instinctive dip into her water magic a pillow of condensed water formed beneath her feet in order to carry her to the ground.

The lands of the Tribe held only one modernized entrance—well secluded and hidden—that allowed cars to enter. Only those invited or that held magic could find it and enter without difficulty.

The Tribe had a burning need to keep their true numbers secretive for the world not to know that Shifters were real and sheltered right here. Still they relied on the modern world for minor conveniences, such as food when their stores were low. It was the only reason the entrance existed. Otherwise the Elders would be happy to seal off the lands to outsiders completely.

By the time Velli had reached the last house between her home and the parking lot, she’d already spotted the cluster of Warriors around the arrivals. Even though she couldn’t be called shy, something made her hold back. Lingering behind the house, she decided to observe the pair rather than seek interaction.

After all, they were already surrounded and being peppered with conversation from Chief Silver Fox and her own father, Black Feather. As the Warriors started to retreat she caught her first real glimpse of the new arrivals.

Before she could truly appreciate any appearances, the Wolf that was her companion Spirit rushed forward. Eager yipping entered her mind so fast she had to close her eyes to force back the attempt to Shift.

She didn’t understand her Wolf’s eagerness, even if the man was a sight to see for one supposed to be over two hundred years old. Once the Wolf eased up, she decided to get a better look.

After mentally telling her Wolf to stay back she opened her eyes. Hoping to keep her companion Spirit at bay for a while longer she started with Kane’s feet.

Heavy black boots, she had no doubt were steel toe. Black jeans crept up along his calves, hugged tight to well-defined thighs. The black leather belt was just a speed bump on the way to his abs.

Even through his black shirt she could see the carved lines of his abs. His arms were folded across his chest, bare and just as well muscled as the rest of him.

Perfect.

Each muscle was carefully sculpted to perfection. His chest was rock hard. Shoulders so broad.

A rough growl reached her ears, and she realized it had come from her own lips. She cleared her throat and tried to push back her Wolf. Never had her Wolf cared about her obsession with men.

Velli skipped right over his face to his head, studying the thick head of black hair cut short in the style of the military. No, two hundred years hadn’t even thinned one hair on his head.

His strong jawline was dirty with just a bit of stubble – a rarity among the Tribe – facial hair and body hair were all but non-existent. Her fingers twitched with an unexpected urge to feel the rough stubble.

Then his eyes consumed her. Strong amber-brown intensity met hers with unabashed fire. He’d seen her studying him. Yet it didn’t appear to slow him down. Small movements of his body, the words formed in conversation drawing her attention to the smooth movements of his sensual lips.

The urge to Shift pressed at the back of her eyes until she had to look away. To gather herself. She needed a distraction. His companion, his mate. The descendant of the Asian Tribe. That would have to do. To remember that he had a mate. To see what she looked like.

The woman’s flaming red hair shone so bright for a moment Velli suspected dye. If this woman were a Shifter though, no hair color would ever hold. Beneath the bright flash of red sat creamy white skin the palest Velli had ever seen.

How could this woman be a descendant of the Asian Tribe?

One glimpse of her eyes and Velli saw it. The slight tilt in a stunning and shocking emerald green. With a blink they turned yellow and cat-like before reverting back green. At her temples sat three pure white strands of thick hair that looked just like whiskers.

Interesting.

Her skin tingled and she drew her eyes back to see Kane giving her the same perusal she had granted him. When his eyes locked onto hers again, a shiver ran down her spine. In the back of her head the Wolf growled out, Mine.

“Oh no,” she whispered to herself. “This one is not for us. We’re just looking.”

About the Author

Sarah Cass’ world is regularly turned upside down by her three special needs kids and loving mate, so she breaks genre barriers; dabbling in horror, straight fiction and urban fantasy.  She loves historicals and romance, and characters who are real and flawed, so she writes to understand what makes her fictional people tick.  And she lives for a happy ending – eventually. And enough twists to make it look like she enjoys her title of Queen of Trauma Drama a little too much.

An ADD tendency leaves her with a variety of interests that include singing, dancing, crafting, cooking, and being a photographer. She fights through the struggles of the day, knowing the battles are her crucible; she may emerge scarred, but always stronger.  The rhythms to her activities drive her words forward, pushing her through the labyrinths of the heart and the nightmares of the mind, driving her to find resolutions to her characters’ problems.

While busy creating worlds and characters as real to her as her own family, she leads an active online life with her blog, Redefining Perfect, which gives a real and sometimes raw glimpse into her life and art.  You can most often find her popping out her 140 characters in Twitter speak, and on Facebook.

Lust, love, and second chances.

Growing up in the fast-paced and rough life of a motorcycle club wasn’t easy. Cleaning up the mess his father had made of Vipers Creed meant sacrifice. Cade ‘Spook’ Baker had given up everything to bring the club life back to what it was supposed to be: a family.

The choices he made were not what he wanted, but they were necessary for the club as a whole.

Second chances rarely came to Spook, so when his Trixie walked boldly into his clubhouse, the decision was made. Trixie would once again be his, this time for good.

Trix Lamasters was raised by a master—a master con. All grown up, she made her life solid by making it about her club, Sirens. But one bad business decision brought her to her knees, forcing her to call on the one person she had sworn she would never trust again.

Pasts have a way of not staying there. Things that were buried deep have a way of finding themselves in the light of a new day. Could something that had once crashed and burned for Spook and Trixie find a way out of the wreckage? With the odds against them, can they find a way to overcome the challenges, or will it all blow up in their faces?

Trix

“You get anywhere with Cade?” Jett, my assistant asked as she plopped down in the chair in front of my desk.  She had a beauty that pulled everyone in and curves that made me insanely jealous. Her long, dark hair laid pencil straight, and her eyes were a blue that looked almost gray in different lights.

My stomach fell at her question, reminding me of last night. I couldn’t believe I fucking slept with him. Not just fucked him, but showered with him, fell asleep with him … woke up in his damn arms. Sneaky bastard.

I could still feel him between my legs. Hell, I even had phantom feelings of him inside of me. He’d had a lot of practice. I knew he had because I had heard all about it. And I wasn’t any better than one of those paid hookers.

Fucking moron. My reasons had sucked before. They meant shit now.

I wanted to pass off the night as being just another booty call, a way to fuck each other out of our systems, but both were a flat out lie. Last night was so much more than anything Taylor, or any of my other weak-ass booty calls, and I had ever been.

The rawness in his eyes captivated me. God, his eyes … I could see so much more in them last night. More than I’d ever thought I would see. But I was just fooling myself. I wouldn’t go back fifteen years to fall for the bad boy again, just to get my heart smashed all over again.

Mortification didn’t even cut it when it came to describing how I felt. Weak. Pathetic. I gave in, letting him have that power over me with his smooth talking and fantastic bed skills.  Plus, he had looked sexy as hell in his leather and jeans. To see him on a motorcycle, too, was just a recipe for disaster. And I had just spread my legs, begging for him to give it to me. Dammit.

Although I was dead serious in the note I left him this morning, it felt really odd to leave it for him in my own house. Nevertheless, I couldn’t stay and deal with the morning after shit. One look and I would have let him inside my body again. I would have let him take me over and over until I really couldn’t walk. Now that I knew how much he had grown, let alone changed in the bedroom, it would be more difficult than ever to say no to him.

I had to remember Cade crushed me. My first love left me to pick up the pieces of my torn heart. I couldn’t go back to the me from that time.

“He doesn’t know if Nanette is there.” I decided to leave out the whole him fucking my brains out bit. I wouldn’t open up that can of worms. I told Jett all about Cade one night after way too many shots of tequila. Regardless, the less people who knew about the now, the better.

Synopsis

Yoga instructor Genevieve Harper is a blond bombshell loaded down with responsibility and sacrifice. She makes the most out of raising her two siblings in the wake of their parents’ tragic accident. At twenty-four, she doesn’t have time to devote to a man…especially not the devastatingly handsome Trent Fox, who’s known for being a “player” on and off the baseball field.

Trent has the best hitting average in the league. Recently, he suffered a torn hamstring that takes him to the Lotus House Yoga Center for recuperation. There he meets the curvy, petite blonde with soulful black eyes and candy-coated glossy lips he’d like to do more to than kiss. He secures the flexible hottie for daily private lessons that ultimately show him how sensual the art of yoga can be.

Can love grow between a woman who’s rooted in her life and a man who resists any notion of staying in one place?

If you’re intrigued by the practice of yoga and desire a sensual, intensely erotic, and uniquely spiritual read with characters capable of performing pretzel-like sexual acts, the Lotus House series is for you.

Each of the seven books can be read as a standalone but are better read in order. No cliffhangers. Books are erotic romances written for mature audiences 18+.

Spook

I woke to a very cold bed. My hand reached out, touching nothing. I listened, but I didn’t hear a sound. It surprised me. I usually slept lightly, never knowing when I needed to be on guard. Something about being in bed with her, having her cuddled up to me, had me sleeping like a fucking log.

Rolling out of bed, I grabbed my pants and shirt, throwing them on along with my cut, socks, and boots. I walked down the hall of the little ranch house.

“Trixie?” I called into the nothingness.

I looked through the house, but she was nowhere. The little minx jumped out on me.

A piece of paper on the table had a large scrawl on it.

Spook,

I had shit to do. Lock the bottom lock when you leave. Please don’t come back.

I chuckled. Woman had no fucking clue who she was dealing with. Oh, I’d be back … tonight or this afternoon. I hadn’t decided yet.

The Fragile Line: Part One
Synopsis
Recommended for ages 18+ due to strong language and sexual content.

Chloe McCarthy thought she had found the perfect guy. Someone just as detached as she was when it came to love and commitment. Someone who never pressured her for more than just sex. But when she gets a little too comfortable with their arrangement, and he rejects her for someone else, it triggers heartbreaking memories that leave her questioning her resolve for a commitment-free life. In a moment of self-pity, she calls on the one person who she knows will make her smile.

Matt Langston lives a drama-free life, and he wants to keep it that way. Chloe McCarthy? All drama. Which is why he needs to stay away from her. A mechanic by day and bouncer by night, he tries to focus on work, but the more he tries, the more she creeps into his thoughts and his dreams, until he realizes that he needs to get her out of his system once and for all.

The Fragile Line is a spin-off to The Fine Line, told in an addicting three-part romance novella series, with each part building on the last. The series may be read alone, however, reading The Fine Line first will provide a further introduction to the characters which may enhance the overall reading experience

The Fragile Line Part One Stockholm
“Is it everything you hoped it would be?”  Chloe asked, as I took a bite of the most
delicious bread I have ever tasted.
This bread was so good that the garlicy, buttery, orgasmic
masterpiece of flavor in my mouth forced a long moan out of my throat.  “Oh, yeah.”
I mumbled with the bread still in my cheek.  “This is fucking incredible.”
The dark wooden table of our window booth was dimly lit by
an overhanging lamp with a red shade.
For a small restaurant, Ricci’s had an inviting, casual atmosphere
complete with old-time Italian music.  At
this time of night, there were only a few other diners scattered about.  I would imagine the place would be closing up
soon for the evening.
She leaned in and whispered, “What if I told you I know how
to make it?”
That caught my attention…enough to stop chewing.  “Don’t tease me, woman.”
She leaned back and huffed in exasperation. “God, why are
you so macho?  The name’s Chloe.  CH-L-O-EEE.”
I chuckled.  “If you
say so.  I’ve gotta hear this.  How do you know how to make the bread?”
“I dated one of the cooks when I worked here.” She shrugged
and took a bite of bread.
Should’ve known that.
But really?  Was that all she was
going to give me?  “And…did the recipe
just osmose from his brain to yours on a date?”
She gave me the stink eye.
“I told him I’d only go out with him if he gave me the recipe.  So he did.
And we went on a date.  And that
was it.”
“Lemme guess.  He
wasn’t your type.”
She shook her head.
“I don’t really have a type.  I
like variety.”
I nodded with raised brows, keeping my mouth shut about the
fact that she just fed into her promiscuous reputation.  Was she doing it on purpose?  Did she actually want people to think she was
easy?  She seemed okay tonight.  Why did part of me want to believe her rep was
BS?
“What about you?” she asked.
“How come I never see you with any girls?”
“I could ask you the same thing.  Why no steady boyfriend?  You’re sexy as hell.  If you dropped the bitch act, you could
easily land some dude if you wanted to.”
There went my word vomit.
So much for keeping my mouth shut.
Luckily, she didn’t seem offended this time.
Instead, she forced out a humorless laugh. “Yeah, just not
the one I want.”
I cocked a brow.
She rolled her eyes and took a sip of her lemonade.
“Maybe it’s not an act,” she continued.
I nodded in thought.
“Or, maybe it is.  You seem pretty
cool now.  Not clingy or—” What’s a nice
way to say ‘easy’? “—overly accessible.
It’s a nice change.  You should do
it more often.”
Her face scrunched up.
“Maybe I just don’t like you.”
“Or.  Maybe you like
me more than you think.”  I winked.
The waiter came with our plates, a Sirloin Marsala for me
and a spaghetti with meatballs for her.
After grating Parmesan cheese over her plate, he asked the typical
waiter question, “Is there anything else I can get for you two?”
I answered instantly, “More bread.”
The kid, who must’ve been fifteen or sixteen, eyed our full
basket of bread, then looked back at me with a quizzical look on his face which
kind of pissed me off.  I mean, I
would’ve eaten it all up already if he wouldn’t have been so quick with our
meals.  And I wanted leftovers.
“Please,” I said calmly.
“O…kay?  I’ll be back
with that in a minute.”
Dipshit.
The steak was even better than the bread.  It literally melted in my mouth.  Chloe laughed when I moaned again at the
taste, and I smiled, knowing that my mission for the night had just been
accomplished.
We savored our meals quietly for a few minutes before she
broke the silence, continuing our conversation.
“Maybe I’m not interested in anything serious with anyone.  Maybe taking what I want and being…less than
nice…is the best way to make sure they don’t get all googly with me.”
“What the hell does ‘googly’ mean?”
“Come on, you know.”
I shook my head no.
“It’s the lovey-dovey look in someone’s eyes.  Whether it’s a boy or girl, man or woman, we
all do it.  It’s the way someone looks at
you when they want you to think they’re falling for you.  They look at you with ‘googly-eyes.’”
“Ha!  You seem like an
expert.  Maybe your nickname should be
‘heartbreaker.’”
“Yeah, right.  I’ve
only gotten that look from one person.
And I’m not the one who did the heart breaking in that situation.”
I nodded in understanding.
It couldn’t have been Logan.  He’s
never felt that way about her.  My
curiosity piqued.  “First love?”
“Yeah, I guess you could say that.”
She continued stuffing spaghetti into her face as if this
conversation were over.  I cleared my
throat to get her attention.  It worked
because she looked up from her plate with a WTF look.  “Go on, Pink, spill it.  You know you want to.”
She laughed again.
Just a small one, but a laugh nonetheless.  It took her another moment before she finally
started to talk.

To Live Again

After getting out of the shower, I finish my morning routine. Taking in a breath, I know it’s time. I have to look in the mirror to check my appearance before I can leave the bathroom. I slowly raise my head and look, hoping that I can do it quickly without really having to notice my eyes. But, as usual, I stare into my reflection for a moment. I see the dark circles and notice that my violet eyes look the way they usually do, like I have no soul, because really I don’t; not anymore.
I know there is nothing I can do to change it, so I turn around and leave the bathroom and go off to start another new semester at Rice University. Pulling into the student parking lot, I find a place to park. I breathe deeply, relax my face muscles, and pull on the smiling mask that everyone expects of me and go looking for my class.
I am double majoring in Sociology and Psychology since I hope to become a social worker. Because of this, I am always looking to take classes that will help me understand what people are going through and how they react to dire situations. My first class on my new schedule will definitely help with that. It’s called Psychology 305: Death and Dying-Understanding the Grieving Process.
As I make my way across the parking lot, it occurs to me that it’s sort of ironic that I’m taking this class. Maybe I will get some insight into myself and finally some closure. Yeah right, and maybe I will sleep until 5:50 in the morning. Shaking my head in disgust, I square my shoulders and open the door, looking for my favorite seat…1st row, 3rd seat, closest to the door.
Immediately, I see it is already taken by a very large, very beautiful boy. Holy hell and hotness. He’s so gorgeous, but he is in my seat, so hot or not, he’s going to have to move it. If he doesn’t, at least I will have had a chance to talk to him and look at him; yeah, I’m so objectifying him right now. I bet feminism just slid back a couple of centuries, but surely women everywhere will understand when they get a load of what I’m seeing.
Even so, I walk up to his desk and as he looks up at me, I see the most gorgeous green eyes and black hair. Green eyes are my weakness and he is certainly no exception. I am standing there just staring at him so I know I have to act like I’m not affected by him at all. It’s kind of written in the girl code handbook that we can’t let hot guys know how they affect us, right?
Keeping this in mind, I look at him and say, “Excuse me, you’re in my seat.”
He laughs and says, “No sweetheart, I’m in my seat.”
I roll my eyes and move to the next seat over. A few seconds later, he taps me on the shoulder and says, “Hey, I’m Jayson or Jase, which ever you would like to call me.”
I glare at him and ask, “So? What makes you think I am going to call you anything?” He just winks at me and smiles a devastating smile. “If you want this seat, the price is introducing yourself.”
Feeling like something big is happening, I reach out my hand and say, “Hi, I’m Chloe Schaeffer.”
As our hands touch, I feel a spark of electricity and we both look at each other in a shocked way. We sit there for a second, staring at each other, with clasped hands. Jerking my hand back, I stand and wait as he gets up to exchange seats with me while feeling a little bad that I made such a big deal about a desk.
When he stands up, I look up at him and it’s a long way up there. He has black hair that looks like he either ran his hands through it a bunch of times or he just naturally has that sexy fall out of bed look. You know the kind people pay stylists a ton of money to get? Not to mention the green eyes, I know I already did, but God can you blame me?
I keep ogling him and the view just gets better and better. He has on a RU t-shirt and faded jeans that fit him just right paired with black Harley boots. But the best thing of all is his mouth. His lips are full and gorgeous and look like they’re made for sinning and I definitely want to be the first to fall from grace. I snap back to myself when I see him just standing there. I think he is secretly laughing at me so now I don’t feel so bad about stealing his seat.
The professor comes into the room and as he begins droning on and on about death, I keep sneaking peeks over at my sexy neighbor and C-R-A-P, crap, he just caught me checking him out. He looks back at me and winks. I immediately blush and look away and it hits me that for a moment, I forgot the hell that is my life.
This is Living

Carrying me over to the small bed, he starts to lay me down; however I refuse to let go of him.

“Wait, are these sheets clean? Who else has been in this bed?”

I feel his chest moving against me and I know he is trying not to laugh out loud. Punching him in the arm, I say, “Don’t laugh at me; you know how I am! I just don’t want to be lying in someone else’s stuff.”

“Well, I’m the only one that’s been on shift the last two days, so you don’t have anything to worry about.”

Are you sure about that? I shut my eyes at the thought that crossed my mind because just the idea of it makes me want to hurl. I open my eyes and he is just staring at me with an odd look on his face.

“Why are you looking at me like that,” I ask in a quiet panic. Surely, he doesn’t know what I was just thinking.

“You tell me. Why did you shut your eyes with a pained look on your face and hesitate when I said it was only me that’s been using this bed?”

His ability to read me has me at a loss for words. I start to answer, but then shut my mouth. I’m not sure what to say that isn’t going to sound like an accusation. Maybe I should just say what’s been bothering me, then he can reassure me and we’ll move on.

“Uh, I don’t know. You haven’t been home for two days and didn’t call, plus you only texted when I texted first. I just thought…” Good one, Chloe, that didn’t sound accusatory at all.

Pulling away from me, he walks over to where he left his scrubs and starts to get dressed. “Wait, what are you doing?”

With his jaw clenched and eyes flashing, he shakes his head. “Get dressed, Chloe. Go home. I will talk to you later.”

“Go home? For your information, I’m not some child you get to send away. I cannot believe you just said that to me.”

“I don’t know what to say to you. I haven’t looked at another woman since the day I laid eyes on you. You can say a lot of things about me, but cheating isn’t one of them.”

Shit, shit, shit! This is not what I wanted. Why the hell didn’t I listen to Madison? “I didn’t mean anything by what I said. I was just stating that I haven’t seen you in a while.”

“It sure as hell sounds like you were accusing me of cheating on you. Is that really what you think I’ve been doing the past couple of days?”

He looks so angry and I hate it more than anything. I don’t do well with confrontation and this is even worse than usual.

Instead of reassuring him, I’m standing there frozen, unable to speak. When he sees I’m not going to answer, he slams his hand down on a locker while cursing.

“Jayson, you are putting words in my mouth,” I finally manage to say.

Feeling exposed, I began yanking my clothes on. It’s obvious nothing is going to happen here and I’m not standing here naked while he yells at me.

“Ok, then tell me what you were thinking and don’t lie to me. I’m really fucking pissed right now so tell me that I’m wrong.”

Without waiting for an answer, he yells, “No, I’m not pissed, I’m fucking hurt that you would think so little of me. All these years and nothing has changed, has it?”

“Stop this now,” I tell him in a shaky voice.

“We need to both take a step back and take a breath before we say something we can’t take back. You haven’t called or come home, so yes, I was feeling a bit insecure. I also may have let my emotions and my brain run away from me, but don’t you EVER accuse me by saying nothing has changed. You know that’s not true. I think I will go home. This is not the place or time to discuss issues such as these and I’m not going to stand here and scream back and forth like some characters on a reality show just to get my point across.”

I can see my words are hitting home with him and now I’m the angry one. I never came out and accused him of cheating on me. You sure didn’t say that he hadn’t when he asked you, did you? I ruthlessly tamp down on these thoughts because while we are both in the wrong here, one of us has to walk away. If it has to be me, then so be it.

He’s still standing in front of the door and as I near him, I can see the tired lines of his face. I hate that he is so exhausted. I hate that we fought with such hateful words…this is the worst fight we’ve ever had…even more so than when I left him sitting in a restaurant 9 years ago. When I reach him, I wrap my arms around his waist and rest my head on his chest. His body is stiff against mine, but finally he wraps his arms around me and squeezes.

“I’m sorry I hurt you. I was freaked out when I didn’t hear from you last night and you didn’t come home this morning. Then, when I got here, the new nurse acted strangely when I asked for you.”

He doesn’t let go, but neither does he respond, so I look up at him and wink, trying to get him in a better mood. “This is where you apologize on bended knee. And then let me out of the deal that says I might have to give any money back for swearing.”

Bending down, he places his forehead against mine and says, “I’m sorry, too…for everything. I’m exhausted and I have a bitch of a headache.”

I close the distance and kiss him in reply. “I love you.”

He mumbles, “Me, too, I have to go.”

Suddenly he lets go of me and turns to open the door. All I can think of is that he didn’t say I love you back, just “me, too.”

Before walking out, he stops and presses his forehead against the door while I stand awkwardly behind him. I’m not sure what is going on, but something is. Though it’s killing me, it’s still not the time to talk about it or spring any other news on him. I place my hand in his and wait.

About the Author

Sarah Cass

Her first full length novel, Changing Tracks, is due to release in February with another novel set for release in April. While busy creating worlds and characters as real to her as her own family, she leads an active online life with her blog, Redefining Perfect, which gives a real and sometimes raw glimpse into her life and art. You can most often find her popping out her 140 characters in Twitter speak, and on Facebook.
