Kirsty.
Addiction is something you have no control over.
I would love to say I have control over my feelings for
Michael Smith, but I can’t.
He weakens my resolve.
The longer he stays in my life, the harder it gets to walk
away from him and the more addicted I become.
My dark past makes me guarded where men are concerned …
why is he so different?
Michael.
She is my addiction. I’m prepared to give up my life back
home for her, to make a new life for us together … if she lets me in.
We all have pasts, but hers is stopping her moving forward
in life. A life I’m desperate to be a part of.
When her past comes back to haunt her, could I be giving up
more than my life back home in New York?

“You know, she’s not the only one who could use some fun in her life,”
Michael whispers leaning closer to me. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck
stand up. It’s been a while since a man had this effect on me. Closing my eyes,
I suck in a deep breath.
“Are you insinuating I don’t know how to have a good time?” I ask him as
my eyes flicker open to Libby and Alex.
“Those two wouldn’t notice if you and I started making out, here and
now.” Making out, who even says that? I want to laugh, but I also don’t want to
draw attention to us.
I put my hand on his thigh and slowly run it toward his groin. Keeping
my eyes on him, I watch as his blue eyes light up in amusement. Testing and
teasing him. My hand stops when I feel his erection in his trousers; it turns
me on, but I pull my hand away before I do something I will regret. Yes,
Michael and I are going to get along. He is just the type of man I could have
some fun with. Lots of fun with no strings attached.
“Oh, I know how to have fun, but I don’t think you have what it takes to
have fun with me.”
“Don’t be so sure of that, sweetheart, I’m sure I have all the right
equipment and it’s all in working order. I know you and I could have a lot of
fun together.”
I turn away from him before either of us says anything else. But, I have
to agree with him, he is just the type I could have fun with. A lot of fun
with.

Author: R. Scarlett

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Synopsis

Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss…or to kill.

Her fingers caught his tie, and he froze, startled by her brave actions as she tightened the fabric around his neck. “If anything happened to her, I don’t know what I would do.”

So you wanna play “who’s in charge”, sweetheart?

His lips quirked, and he touched both her hands. “Is that a threat, Ms. Darling?” He’d show her who was in charge; he’d throw her on the bed and devour her—pleasurably, of course. His fingertips skimmed the hollow of her wrist. “Because I expect people who make threats to follow through.”

Her hands retreated. “Do I look like a threat?”

He half-smiled. She had no idea how much of a threat she actually was to him. How, if he let her in, she could control him, just like that human seductress had controlled his brother.

Something To Believe In By Ella Fox ♥ Excerpt Reveal

Excerpt

  • Prologue

  • Rock bottom was an alley in New York City where I, a strung out junkie asshole, pissed myself and twitched like a bitch as I lost control of my body. It seemed fitting considering how I’d lost control of everything else. My path had always been leading me to a busted piece of concrete beside a filthy dumpster of rank smelling garbage.
  • For me, being a junkie was all about one thing—the fucking sound that defined my life. It was a return to home, but getting there was a raging bitch with sharp claws and razor-like teeth. It hurt like a motherfucker and broke what was left of my spirit piece by miserable piece, but I did it anyway. Pay to fucking play, I thought. Honestly, back then I’d have shot up battery acid if it meant I’d have five goddamn seconds of peace.
  • Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
  • I could feel my heartbeat of course, but when I was high, I could hear it, too, thump-thump-thumping in my ears. It was a steady series of bass notes that reminded me of better times. Of home.  Of safety and laughter. Later my home became the stuff of nightmares, a prison of terror and mind-fucking cruelty that could never, ever be forgotten. That part of my life I was able to tap into without drugs, since it lived and breathed inside of me every minute of every day—until I started shooting up. Once that shit hit my veins I’d cruise to numb before floating off.  It fucking sucked, especially the aftermath, but those few seconds of nothing were like an oasis in the desert of my life.  It was killing me, but I didn’t care.  Of course, I’d been banking on my lifetime not being very long at all.
  • Which is why I wasn’t even a little upset as I twitched on the sidewalk and sensed death hovering over me.
  • Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
  • I hadn’t just raced toward my own demise; I’d also been busy inviting it in.  Hell, I’d all but sent out engraved invitations and by my estimation, death had been passing me over for far too long.
  • As I twitched on the pavement, ready to have it all be over, I felt something around me shift.
  • I knew she was there because I’d smelled her Loves Baby Soft perfume.  When she spoke, she was right next to me, close enough for me to feel her hand when it covered mine. I also felt her head as it set down on my chest, just over my heart.
  • “I love this sound,” she murmured.
  • For a moment, her sweet voice warmed the coldest place inside of me.  My eyes were at half-mast as I tried and failed to let her know I remembered how much she loved the sound of a beating heart. It wasn’t something I could ever forget.
  • “Dad always said the rhythm of the heart was musical.”
  • My heart, which I imagined was like a sandbox made of broken and worn down glass, cracked in my chest. I wanted to respond, but words were too difficult to form. My tongue wouldn’t cooperate.
  • “I know what you’re doing, and you have to stop,” she whispered.  “This isn’t okay. It’s almost too late.”
  • God, I hoped so.
  • Ba…dum.
  • Ba…dum.
  • Ba…dum.
  • “It doesn’t sound good.”
  • She was right.  The sound was slow and unsteady. I heard the concern in her voice, but couldn’t find it in me to care about the state I was in.
  • She expelled a heavy sigh.
  • “What’s coming is going to hurt,” she warned.
  • I dealt in hurt the way some people dealt cards, so threatening pain was laughable. I was on a first name basis with it, which meant it didn’t scare me in the least.  It had been years since I’d felt anything consistently other than agony. I tried to fake it sometimes, tried to pretend I was experiencing happiness—but when I was alone, all of the subterfuge disappeared.  I wasn’t happy and I didn’t see how I ever could be.
  • Not with what I’d seen.
  • Not after what I’d lost.
  • Ba.
  • Dum.
  • Ba.
  • Dum.
  • Ba.
  • Dum.
  • The rhythm of the beat was gone.  In its absence was a series of discordant thumps without rhyme or reason.
  • Suddenly, light surrounded me. I was relieved because it surely meant my hell was almost over. I wasn’t even a little bit sad.  The light brought no warm feeling with it, and I thought I heard terse sounding voices, but I didn’t let it upset me.  Everyone knew when you saw the light, you were meant to go toward it.
  • Finally, I thought, I was going home.
  • “It doesn’t work this way,” she told me.  “Doing this—you don’t get to go where you want to go. It’s not your time.”
  • I wanted to answer, but I couldn’t open my mouth. Why wasn’t it ever my time? Why couldn’t I make the choice?
  • “Nothing can change what happened,” she said firmly. “Stop trying to check out of life, Tyson.”
  • My mind was screaming in agony and I wanted to tell her she didn’t know what it was like to have gone through what I did.  She didn’t know how it felt to be so horribly alone.
  • “I’m always with you,” she assured me. “We all are. Stop chasing death and start living—if not for yourself, then for me.  For us.”
  • I think I whimpered then, like a small boy hiding from monsters beneath his bed.
  • “Help is here,” she announced.
  • I felt her lips against my cheek, and it made me want to cry. I didn’t want help—I needed it all to be over. It felt like the end was close—I couldn’t hear my heartbeat anymore.
  • “You’ll never see me again if you don’t fight,” she told me. “Stop trying to kill yourself and realize that life is a gift.”
  • If I’d been able to, I would have cursed. It sure as hell didn’t feel like a gift to me.
  • “Because you’re letting the pain win,” she said sadly. “This is your last chance.  Take it.”
  • I wondered how she knew that, but then I lost the ability to form coherent thoughts since my body felt like it was on fire.  Pain slashed through my veins like razorblades being chased by molten lava, and no area of my body was immune.  Even my eyelids felt dry and scorched.  I wanted to scream my lungs out, to beg for it to end, but I couldn’t move. The Loves Baby Soft smell of her faded away, replaced by an acrid stench that burned my nostrils.
  • I thought I was in hell.  Regardless of whether I could go home or not, I didn’t think I had the wherewithal to withstand the amount of pain ricocheting through my body like a thousand bullets.  My ribs and chest hurt so badly, I wished I could just stop feeling.  I’d foolishly believed my utter lack of care or concern about my life meant death would be easy.
  • It wasn’t.
  • Death, I found, was brutal business.
  • The torture seemed to last an eternity and through it all, I was unable to communicate.  My eyes stayed closed, and my mouth wouldn’t form words.  I couldn’t even lift a hand.  If I’d been able to, I would’ve shoved whoever was touching me far, far away.  Being fried from the inside out was hell on earth and I wondered why the fuck it wasn’t stopping.
  • How the hell could she have called what was happening to me help?
  • Right then the only thing I knew for sure was that if being helped hurt that much, I preferred to go without the aid.

Little Ben Knight was
destined to be a leader from the minute he was born. He grew up learning how to
be a good Brother in an MC that believed in making life better in their
community while living their dream by their rules.

It wasn’t always easy but he had good role
models and a President that had a vision of a Brotherhood to be proud of. He
learned how to fight gangs. He learned how to protect their women. He learned
that everyone is useful and worth the same no matter gender or disability. He
learned what ‘all in’ really means.

Brother and how to protect that belief. With his own Club he protects those
beliefs with a vengeance. Giving people the ability to live their lives, the
same way he grew up, is what he lives for.

No drugs, no gangs and no human trafficking is

L. Ann started with the Baxters and is working on her third series, The Princes
of Prophecy MC. While her books feature ex-SEALs and Badass Bikers, L. Ann is
writing about the strong women that these men need in their life to help right
the worlds wrongs and help keep their small part of the world safe. The women
are extraordinary, strong and determined to make a difference.

The men fight for right in every book. Yes they kill people. Yes they shoot at
the bad guys feet to cause them pain. Yes they throw tampons at each other
regularly.

That being said, they do these things while stopping human trafficking,
bringing their Club into legitimate businesses, fight gangs to keep drugs away
from their town and kids, keep women sheltered safely while trying to stop
domestic abuse. These are men that don’t leave a Brother behind. They don’t
treat women as possessions and they don’t cheat. Respect takes on an honorable
meaning. Women and kids are cherished. Everyone is looked out for.

L. Ann has made the perfect Club, tackled the taboo subjects and made it easy

she’s told her characters stories in a way that would make them proud.

Every book will make you laugh, every book will make you angry for the wrong

One month.

One movie.

One shot at a second chance.

I fell madly in love at first sight with Jane Lewis.

The girl with bright blue eyes, a pretty smile, and great ass owned my heart. I thought she was happy with the status quo, but ten years later, I foolishly let her go. Despite dating other women, no one compares to my first love. We are meant to be together, and I’m going to try my damnedest to convince her of that.

Luke Anders tricked me. The deal was sealed before I knew he was behind it.

We agreed to be just friends. Simple. Easy. But it’s not just the weather that’s hot in Texas. I was a fool to think I could resist him. He knows how to work his charms and those kissable lips, that great jaw, and biceps. We are here to work, but he has become downright distracting.

I’m strong. I can handle one month of his flirtatious sexual torture. But if I happen to fall in bed with that sexy bastard for a night, or three, does that make me weak? Asking for a friend, of course.

I guess I’m about to find out when love gets messy, it’s not just the talk that’s dirty.

Everything you’ve heard about modeling is true, and you haven’t heard the half of it.

It’s glamorous.

It’s sexy.

And yes, the line between work and reality often blurs.

We’re not just prototypes of perfection. Models have feelings and desires, too. We may be genetically gifted, but we’re still human.

I’m only human. Yes, an extraordinary specimen that earns more in a day than most make in a year, but this eight pack didn’t create itself. I spend hours working on this body. The good looks just come natural. *Winks* Thanks, Mom and Dad.

I’m Danny Weston, Supermodel.

But one path was traded for another when I chose this career. Ten years later, I would trade my career to have it back. To have her back.

Reese Carmichael is the one woman I would give it all up for, and the only one I can’t have. Yet.

New York Times and USA Bestselling Author, S. L. Scott, was always interested in the arts. She grew up painting, writing poetry and short stories, and willing her days away lost in a good book and the movies.

With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald. She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the world those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones. This dynamic of leaving the reader invested in the words, inspired Scott to start writing with emotion while interjecting an underlying passion into her own stories.

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She’s obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. She dreams of seeing one of her own books made into a movie one day as well as returning to Europe. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Excerpt

“Excuse me?”

She jumps at the sound of my voice, giving me a faint smile that strengthens my resolve to talk to her.

I stick out my hand. “Hi, I’m Brett.” She takes it, timid but firm.

“Mia.”

“At risk of sounding like a creeper, we’ve been following each other since Charlotte.” I lean against the gas pump. Mia takes a look around me and her smile grows.

“You’re right.”

I run my hand through my hair. “I’m going inside to grab a drink. May I get you something?”

She replaces the pump and tightens the gas cap on her car. “Are you trying to pick me up at a gas station?” The humor is dancing in her eyes.

“Well, yeah, I guess I am.” I shrug. “If we’re road tripping, probably not smart to take you to a bar.I mean, I know its not Starbucks, but–”

She brushes her long hair off her shoulder, the corner of her mouth twitching. “A cup of coffee would be great.”

I push off the pump station and turn to replace the pump. We lock our cars and walk toward the store.

“So Mia, where are you heading?”

“San Antonio. You?”

“Austin.”

Grabbing the door, she walks under my arm inside, leaving a trace of vanilla and cinnamon behind. I could breathe that in all day.

I follow her to the coffee machines, noticing her petite frame. Her arms are smaller than they should be and a worry I can’t explain overcomes me.

Without looking at me, she reaches for a coffee pot and pours the liquid into a small cup. “Austin, huh?” I watch her full lips blow the steam across the top and I have to remind myself that I’m in a public place.

“Yeah, looking for a new adventure.” Her eyebrows perk up. I grab a large coffee cup and rip open four sugar packets. Placing the cup under the instant coffee dispenser, I hit the button for the vanilla cappuccino. Out of the corner of my eye, she’s staring at me, mouth open.

“What?”

She blinks. “Nothing. It’s just…that’s a lot of sugar.” She giggles as I stare at my cup. “How do you even taste the coffee?”

She laughs even harder as I scrunch my face. “Ugh! Why would you want to taste that?” Her laugh is adorable and hearty. And contagious.

I stir my cup and lean against the counter. “Don’t judge my coffee.” Chuckles rumbling through my body.I take a sip and tip my head to the snack aisle.

“Hungry?”

“Drinks and dinner? You sure do spoil a girl on a first date.”

“I do what I can.”

We walk around the back side of a rack to the snack aisle. I immediately grab a bag of gummy worms and beef jerky. Mia’s bottom lip is clamped between her teeth, her shoulders twitching with a laugh.

“What?” I give her a glare. “Are you judging my food too?”

“I would never!” Her mock horror has me laughing along with her.

“Whatever. Beef jerky is healthy. It’s protein.”

Her eyes twinkle. “Whatever you say.”

“What are you going to have?”

“Oh, no. I’m good. Maybe just a bottle of water.”

I purse my lips in disbelief as she starts to walk towards the coolers. “Can you grab me one too?” I call. She whips her head around and nods, giving me a small smile that makes me want to stay in this gas station for a long time.

I finally decide on my snacks and realize that Mia isn’t back. I walk towards the coolers looking for her. Rounding the corner, I see her sitting on the floor next to a key chain display, laughing.

“What are you doing?” I squat next to her.

“Sorry, this caught my eye and I just kept reading them. Here.” She hands me one of the key chains. It says “Nothing like a good…” with a close up picture of a peach on it.

I chuckle as she laughs. “Well, they aren’t wrong.”

“I don’t know why I find that as funny as I do.”

I look up, noticing the trucker hats hanging on the wall. “If you think that’s funny—” I grab a red cap with a girl’s silhouette on it on all fours. “Booty hunter.”

Mia throws her head back as I model the hat. “That’s amazing. You look like that fits you perfectly.”

“Well, what can I say. I have a good aim, if you know what I mean.” I wink as her, sending her into another fit of giggles.

Standing up, she grabs a black one that says ‘I’d rather be F___ing.’

“Yep, this is the hat for me.” She adjusts it on her head and turns to model it, giving me the duck face.

“You’ll probably get some attention, that’s for sure.”

“Read the fine print, perv.”

I lean closer, that smell of cinnamon and vanilla wafting through my senses. “Fishing? Shit, got me.” She laughs, taking the hat off.

“God they have some tacky stuff in here.”

“You seem to be loving it.”

She nods. “Duh. How could you not?” She picks up her coffee and checks her watch. “We might want to get a move on. Burning daylight.”

“Are you sure you don’t want anything to eat?”

“Liquid diet right now.” She holds up the coffee.

“So I’ll be prepared to stop in thirty minutes when you have to pee?”

Mia pops my arm. “Or when your stomach turns on you.” She eyes my snack selection.

“I have a steel stomach, Doll.” I pat my stomach as she rolls her eyes.

Checking out, we walk back to our cars.

“I know this is weird, but can I get your number? If we’re heading the same way, might be nice to have someone to talk to.”

Mia nods. “I’d love that.” She hands me her phone as I hand her mine.

“Booty Hunter?” She laughs at the name I put in her phone. I look down at mine and laugh with her. “F***ing Mia? Classic.”

As she climbs into her car, I lean into her door frame. “Go on ahead, I’ll catch up with you. I forgot something in there.”

“Did you forget another candy bar?” Humor dances in her eyes as she teases me.

“Shut it.”

Nervously, she plays with her coffee sleeve. “I can just wait for you.”

I nod and stand back so she can close her door. “I’ll just be second.”

Running back in, I grab the two hats from the wall, along with the key chain. I don’t know why, but I want to collect as many key chains with her as I can.

I nod to her as I climb into my Jeep. I’ll surprise her with them later. An excuse to see her again.

Quotes

“Secrets and lies Samuel, we all have them, some are bigger
than others but most we take to our grave.”
“I swear to god if you look at that door again I’ll bang
your head off the bar counter, Sam.” Kirk shouted at him above the Sunday night
local band that asked to play for free for advertisement. “Will you call her
and straighten out your shit.”
“What the fuck you on about?” Cocking his head back while
pulling a fresh pint.
“Shit man, Faye! I think I prefer you passed out on the bed
than being…. distant.”
“Fuck Kirk, I didn’t know you turned into a girl. That’s
emotional shit you said then, do you have your period too?”
“What is an ideal upbringing now days? Crikey Sam this world
is so fucked up on so many different levels that no one knows what is normal
anymore. What is wrong for some is right for others. That, I guess, is what
makes the world amazing and terrifying at the same time.”

Phoenix Synopsis

Book 1 of the Phoenix Saga – The Phoenix

“Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” Or so the book of Corinthians tells us.

Alanna Anderson does not agree with this sentiment. At the tender age of thirteen, Alanna believes that she has learned all she needs to know about love. Love is fleeting. Love is callous. Love is a lie. Growing up in the rough streets of South End, Pennsylvania, Alanna Anderson knows a thing or two about guarding her heart. Although there is a boy that vies for her attention, Alanna has no interest. She surrounds herself with the people she loves best, and immerses herself in her music and her love of literature. But one winter day, two boys forever changed Alanna’s life. One cemented Alanna’s belief that love was cruel. Another sought to prove her wrong.

Cris Serrano is new to town. Moving to the United States from Portugal, he is stepping into a world he in unfamiliar with. He is not fearful, though. Stepping forth with confidence, Cris is excited for what this new experience will hold, leaving behind a past he’d rather forget. Upon his first day at Henshaw Elementary, Cris meets Alanna Anderson and sparks fly. Their connection is one that will forever rewrite the map of their destinies – two supernovas colliding amidst a darkened sky. Not everyone believes that Alanna and Cris belong together, though.

Damien Foley has loved Alanna Anderson from the day he first set eyes upon her. Though she ignores his advances, Damien has hope that Alanna will open her heart to him. But when Cris Serrano comes to town, everything changes. Alanna gazes at Cris the way Damien wishes she would look at him. Watching her fall in love in Cris was more than Damien’s mind could take. As Alanna and Cris are enveloped in the joy of young love, a storm is brewing. With Damien’s attraction to Alanna only intensifying with each unrequited sentiment, an obsession was born.

Young love does not come easy in this gritty, romantic suspense novel. In the Phoenix Saga, they love hard, they fight hard, and the stakes are high as teens struggle to step over the echelon of adulthood.

Excerpt:

Stephanie sat at the tiny, square kitchen table in a tiny, square studio apartment. Dust lined the moldings and the slats on the blinds, darkened the forgotten crevices on bookshelves and in the entertainment center. The white walls were dingy with age and disregard. Thick, acrid tension clung to the air and crawled into her throat, into her belly, curdling her insides.

“Um…can I get you something to drink?”

Shiny, dark hair poured over Courtney’s shoulders and down her back. Black liner emphasized her large brown eyes. More makeup than that was superfluous, and she knew it. Her clothes, while not tight fitting, revealed enviable curves in all the right places. Pretty, and young. She’d been barely legal with Alex.

“Why do you want the money?”

Courtney’s hard eyes adopted a haunted expression. “I don’t know how else to get it. It would take me decades to save enough. My mom is in hospice, and the medical bills—I mean, she lost the house, and now I’m in this shithole—” She swept her arm. She was biting her lip, but the tears came anyway. “I had to drop out of school, so I’ve got those loans too.”

“So you decided to blackmail my husband.”

“He’s the only person I know who has the money, and I had this video… It’s fine if you think I’m a slut. So does everyone else. I’m not a sick kid, so who gives a shit about me, right?”

“Let me see it,” Stephanie murmured.

Courtney wiped her eyes and cleared her throat. “Even I don’t want you to see it.”

“That bad? Was it…” Stephanie barely mustered the courage to ask. “Consensual?”

Courtney darted her gaze away. “Most of it.”

Oh, God. Stephanie forced down her gorge.

“Everyone has secrets, you know? There’s a side of him he doesn’t want you to see.”

“It was two years ago.”

“How much do people really change? They say they do, but all they’ve done is put a coat of paint on a house with structural damage.”

“You know he’s bipolar. When he’s hypomanic, he takes risks. Mostly sexually.”

“Maybe. Or maybe it brought out a part of him that was there all along.”

No. Not the Alex I knew. Know. “I want to see it.”

“You don’t.” Courtney sighed and set a laptop on the table, opened the lid, and clicked a few buttons. She turned it so it was facing Stephanie. “I’ll be outside.”

“Thank you.”

Courtney stepped into the hall. Stephanie stared at the dark, grainy image in the media player. She could make out two pale shapes that resembled human bodies.

She took a deep breath to steady her shaking hand, then tapped Play.

It was Alex all right. Despite the poor quality, his voice—and the body whose every ridge and scar she knew intimately—confirmed it. The old Alex, bigger, uninjured, and unaware of the havoc his neurochemicals were wreaking on his brain. She’d allowed for some foolish hope that both Courtney and Alex were mistaken, that they had mutually misremembered it. Each second that crawled by, she wished for the strength to stop watching, to give Courtney the money and piece their lives back together. There was no good reason to view this except to permanently warp her vision of the man she had sworn to protect from himself.

Ignorance was bliss. Knowledge was power. She could not have both.
