Synopsis
Matisse Evans is determined to make her sophomore year of college successful after failing out of a prestigious art school and spending a horribly boring gap year at home. Despite her focus, time isn’t on her side as she struggles to hold down three jobs so she can afford her first apartment while juggling course work. In the chaos of it all, Beau Grady moves in and shakes up her world. A college dropout and tattooed bad boy, the rumors about Beau mean one thing for Matisse—trouble. Paralyzed by the fear that she’s missing out on life, Matisse discovers plans may unravel, but what rises in their wake can be worth the uncertainty.
After spending the summer couch surfing, Beau Grady moves into an empty room at his ex-girlfriend’s Portland bungalow, skipping his senior year of college to spend his days working at a Vietnamese food cart instead. Once a star hockey player and gifted student, he’s put his life on hold after receiving a life-altering diagnosis, complacent to live in the moment. Hiding behind false rumors and bad habits, Beau falls for Matisse, letting her believe the worst until their relationship blooms into something they both can’t ignore. Falling for her means having to face a future he’d rather forget, but loving her just might be worth it.

Excerpt
“I didn’t mean what I said the other night.” Mati spins around and tosses my T-shirt at my face. “And I guess I’m sorry for that.”
She glances over my shoulder, biting her bottom lip as I snap the folded T-shirt against my shoulder. I laugh in spite myself. I’m a fucking wreck, but something about me intimidates her. I can’t figure her out.
I stretch, pain radiating throughout my body as I do. I slip the shirt over my head and pull my shit together.
“It’s whatever,” I say with a shrug. I try to play it off, grabbing the ratchet from her hand. Truth is, she was right, even if I didn’t want to hear it.
Mati pads over to the tool bench I built with Noah. She pushes herself up to sit on it and places the giant sombrero from our party last weekend on her head. It swallows her up. It’s not that Mati is small—she’s tall and willowy—it’s just that I’ve always liked everything opposite before now. And I hate that it takes her wearing a stupid costume prop for me to figure that out.
“I feel like I need a margarita with this on.” Mati straightens it, adjusting the strings underneath her chin. “Maybe a piñata, too.”
“Straight tequila would be preferable.”
She swings her legs back and forth, humming along to the Black Keys. It’s a good thing she’s a painter; singing isn’t a strength of hers. But it’s cute and I hate myself for thinking so.
“How are classes?” I don’t really care about the answer. I just want to hear her talk.
“Oh, they’re fine, I think.”
“You don’t know?”
She stops swinging her feet. “Why do you care?”
“Making conversation, Mati.” I walk around to the bench. “Since we’re talking to each other again.”
A smile spreads across her lips, those red lips that I want to kiss.
“Why are you upset?” she asks quietly.
I swat my hand out and tip the sombrero over her eyes. “I’m fine.” It’s easier to lie when I don’t have to look her in the face.
She straightens the hat. “Classes so far are a lot like my classes freshman year two years ago.”
I skip the obvious question. Too many details and this impossible distance I’m trying to keep between us is going to be obliterated. “How’s that?”
“Do you remember? It’s been so long since you went to class.”
Her teasing washes away the panic seizing me again. “I wasn’t always a dropout. I remember fine.”
“Then you remember they’re pointless.” Her voice grows sad. “What was your major, Beau?”
I help her remove the massive sombrero instead of answering. I need exactly eight credits before I can graduate and start my masters for the accelerated program. I know my major—had a plan, even, had a purpose—but it’s not something I want to get into right now. It’s a far stretch ever imagining I could be a counselor responsible for guiding troubled teens on a hike when I can’t hold a damn wrench.
She taps her index finger over the tip of my nose. “Always Mr. Mysterious.”
I wonder if Mati has been drinking tequila because this isn’t like her. Usually her contempt toward me is blatant, not that I mind this Mati. This is who I was hoping the real Mati would be like if she ever paused for a minute from bowling over everything in her path. And that freaks me the fuck out—that today she’s quiet.
“Forestry sciences. I wanted to be a wilderness education counselor.” I move the hat off to the side and help her down, my hand curling over her hip. “What’s your major again? Being a pain in my ass?”
She rests her hand against my shoulder, not stepping away. “Charming as ever, too,” she whispers.
I tell my hand to let go, but I only hold on tighter because she sways closer and bumps against me, lost studying my face. I want to stay here, feel this, watch her watching me forever. “What would you do if I kissed you right now?”
Her eyes widen and shift focus to my mouth. They trace my lips until I have to fight back a groan. Mati gives the perfect fuck-me eyes.
“It doesn’t matter—” She pauses, her fingers pressing hard into my shoulder. “—because we both know you won’t.”
I slide my hand to the small of her back. My palm fits against the gentle curve there. “Mati?”
“I don’t have time for this.” Her words tumble out in an awkward rush. “I don’t want complications.”
My other hand slips up to rest against her stomach, cinching the fabric of her shirt in my fist. She slams her eyes shut at my touch, her breath escaping in staccato beats, mirroring my own.
The garage smells like damp earth and oil, but I swear we’re standing out in the dark, lost in the woods under the endless cover of stars.
Even though she’s right, even though I am a complication, I can’t shake the feeling in my gut that we’d be a good one. “You’re wrong,” I whisper. Her eyes pop open. “You’re exactly the type of girl who wants complications.” I rest my forehead against hers, her sweet coffee breath washing over my mouth. “And you have no clue what I want.”

Autumn By Christopher Scott Wagoner ♥ Promo Blitz
StandardWhen he was a few people from the front, he could hear the barista’s voice as she attempted to handle a complicated order.
“Vanilla Latte, double shot espresso, extra large,” she said, her voice fraught with stress.
“No,” said the angry heavyset man at the front of the line. “Vanilla steamer, one shot of espresso, extra large.”
“Sorry, sir,” she said, “I’m new here.”
Steve strained to see the barista’s face, but the fat man was nearly as tall as he was, and she was granted total concealment by his corpulent mass.
“Sorry doesn’t fix it,” said the man, turning away from her with his drink wedged between pudgy fingers. “I intend to speak with the manager about this!”
The man left, people shrinking to get out of his way. Steve was able to see the barista at last. His breath caught in his throat. She had black hair done up in pigtails that cascaded down her slim shoulders. Her eyes were a soft, rich brown, with a slight almond shape to them. Her tan complexion was even and attractive, from her dark brows past her thin, roman nose and down to her wide, feminine lips. She had a metal hoop pierced through her right eyebrow, and a golden stud gleaming over one nostril. The black sweater she wore under her red coffee house apron had the sleeves rolled up the elbows, revealing several tattoos. He could only see her from the waist up, but she had moderately large breasts which strained against the layers of fabric atop them.
The girl took two more orders while Steve stood enthralled. When it was his turn he was still staring at her. She raised an eyebrow, finally heaving an exasperated sigh and asking;
“Can I help you, or are you just trying to catch flies with your mouth?”
“Huh?” he said, sputtering. “Oh, sorry!”
He quickly moved to the counter, offering her a nervous smile. She glanced back at him, one eyebrow arched, as he continued to stare.
“This is the part where you tell me your order,” she said sarcastically.
“What?”
“Your order?” she said. “You know, you, as the consumer, tell me, as the barista, what you want to drink and I make it for you. Are you a foreigner?”
“A foreigner?” he said, his voice breaking.
“No, you speak English too good,” she said. “Are you autistic or something, like Rain Man?”
“Uh, no,” he said with a slight chuckle.
“Then what’s the hold up?”
“Sorry,” he said, “I’ll have the usual.”
“That’s great,” she said with mock sincerity “except that I’m new here and have no frame of reference as to what your ‘usual’ is.”
“Oh,” Steve said, “a large Colombian dark, with four sugars and six creams.”
“Holy crap,” she said with a short bark of laughter, “you even like the taste of coffee?”
“I’m in a coffee shop, ain’t I?” said Steve, growing perturbed.
“Yeah,” she said, preparing his order, “you are at that.”
She put the cup on the counter and eyed him expectantly.
“This is where you pay.” she said.
“Oh, right.” Steve dug in his front pocket. Change spilled out of his hand and onto the counter. He cursed as he strove to collect the pieces of silver as they rolled around at his feet. The barista snickered as he frantically bent over, his butt facing toward her. The frustrated patrons behind him were giving him dark glowers. Had he not been so large a fellow, no doubt some may have been moved to verbally berate him.
“You fucked up,” said Autumn in a singsong, sports fanatic way, “you fucked up, you fucked up!”
Several of the people behind Steve in line gasped, horrified that a sales clerk would curse so readily in front of customers, particularly in such a mocking manner. Steve, however, was overcome with laughter, actually dropping more of his change in his mirth.
“Old ECW chant,” he said, finally giving her the correct amount. “Nice! Haven’t heard that since back in the day.”
“You like wrestling?” said Autumn, filling an umbra paper cup with dark coffee.
“Yeah,” said Steve, “I actually used to be one, for a little while.”
“Really?” said the woman, slapping a plastic lid on the cup with some awkwardness, “you don’t seem the type…what made you quit?”
“Well,” said Steve, collecting his coffee and a hand full of condiments “I-”
“Yo, buddy,” said a man in a flannel vest a few spaces behind Steve, “flirt on your own time! I gots to get to work!”
Several others, emboldened by the tubby man, added their voices to the chorus.
“Uh,” said Steve, staring into the woman’s eyes. He again found himself lost in them, not quite sure knowing why, or caring. “Uh, I-”
“Sorry sugar,” said the woman with a wink, staring past him at the next customer, “I gotta earn my bread. My name’s Autumn, in case you can’t read my nametag, and that’s Autumn like the season, not Auggie like the hideously deformed kid from Wonder, you dig? I work most Tuesdays and Thursdays, so come in and say hey if you want. Or not.”

Excerpt
When the waitress leaves her after delivering Ayden her food, I walk over and just as she’s about to take a bite, she looks up and we make eye contact. I can’t help the smirk spreading across my face, at the look of excitement, laced with worry, and could it be lust on her face? I don’t know what it is, but I hold her gaze for a couple of seconds before she looks down at her plate, denying me those beautiful jade eyes.
I sit down across from her in the booth. I can see her squirm, I still have the same effect on her and she still holds the same power over me. I have to readjust myself, my jeans are getting tight.
“Ayden.” I see her shiver when I say her name. She finally looks back at me.
“Anthony.” Her tone is clipped. She’s clearly surprised and not very happy to see me.
“We need to talk Sweet Cheeks.”
“Don’t call me that. You’ve lost that privilege long ago,” she whispers, she’s getting pissed. Good, at least she’s still affected by my nickname for her.
“Now, I wasn’t the one running away. I didn’t do anything wrong. I can still call you that if I want to.” I smirk playfully. I’m still hurt, but I don’t want her to run away again.
“I deserved that. Now if you don’t mind I’m trying to enjoy my diner.” She takes a bite of her pickle. Fuck me she did that on purpose!
“I see that.” I steal a piece of bacon from her burger and take a bite.
“Hey, that’s mine!”
“Too bad, now it’s mine.” I wink at her and shove the rest in my mouth.
“Fucker! You don’t mess with a woman’s food!” She’s adorable and extremely hot when she’s pissed.
“Well looks like I did, now will you listen to what I have to say or not?”
“Or not.” She takes an angry bite of the pickle again.
“Kinky.” I smirk licking my lips.
“Piss off Ant!” she whispers loudly.
“We’re going to talk Sweet Cheeks, like it or not, we will very soon.”
“There’s nothing left to say. I know what’s been going on, my mom’s kept me updated on everything. I don’t need you to repeat it to me, I’m good. We don’t have to act like we are friends.” I know she doesn’t mean it. She’s trying to hold back her tears and her lower lip is quivering.
“As you wish Sweet Cheeks. But it will happen very soon… you can bet on it.” I look into her eyes. Showing her I’m very serious about this talk we need to have. I want to have our talk now but I don’t want to scare her away even more. The last thing I want is for her to leave town again. It would kill me. “Have a nice day.” I take a sip of her drink, wink at her, and bend down to kiss her cheek—her soft skin is like heaven. I make my way out of the restaurant knowing I managed to get her attention and that she won’t forget I exist anytime soon. I just can’t wait to be able to talk with her and lay it all out.

Sick of meeting the same guys over and over, Harper
decides to try her luck at Internet dating. How bad could it be? Right?
Tate Washington
wasn’t looking to meet anyone. Still dealing with the consequences of his one
serious relationship, all he’s interested in is revamping his family’s behind-the-times
café.
He didn’t plan on seeing the beautiful receptionist
from Argo again, walking into his life to use his café as a dating hub, and using him
as a BFF.
Can Harper really trust Tate, who is everything she
thinks she needs to steer clear of?
Can Tate wait while Harper works through her
insecurities and fears?
Excerpt
Tate chuckles as he picks up a tomato and throws it
to me. Thanking my quick reflexes, I catch it mid-air.
“Here, cut those,” he says, gesturing to the pile of
tomatoes already stacked on the bench next to where he is preparing bacon.
I pop the tomato down and head to wash my hands.
Once I return to the counter, Tate approaches me with an apron and wraps his arms
around me as he ties the strings in front. We get stuck into it and work in
companionable silence for the next few minutes.
“I’m sorry about the other day,” he says, not pausing
for a second from the bacon he is cutting.
“I know,” I respond.
“I’m glad we’re okay.”
“Me, too.”
Silence descends once more, and we continue our
tasks before Tate speaks again. “The other day, you said how you’ve never felt an
instant connection with someone before.”
“Yeah?” I ask warily, wondering if I freaked him
out.
“I didn’t get to tell you that I feel the same. When
we’re together, it feels right.”
“Yeah … it does.”
Even though we don’t mention another thing about
it, the silence doesn’t come again as the shots keep flowing and the music on the old
radio gets louder and louder. We are laughing and carrying on and there is more
‘accidental’ touching on both sides.
‘Black Widow’ by Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora flows
through the speakers and I sigh in happiness. “I love this song.” I leave my tomatoes
behind to shake my hips all over the kitchen to the beat, singing along with the
lyrics.
Warmth covers my back as two strong hands land
on my hips. Tate pushes into me from behind and moves his hips along with my own
or forces my hips to move along with his—I’m not sure.
“You’re so fucking sexy, Harper,” he whispers into
my ear. “I won’t be able to keep this friendship platonic if you keep shaking your ass
like that in my kitchen.” His warm breath flows over my collarbone as he nuzzles my
neck and goosebumps break out across my skin. Tate must notice as he lifts his head
and slowly peppers small, light kisses along the crease of my shoulder.
My head rolls back onto his shoulder, and my body
liquefies at the intimate and sensual touch. He’s breaking down my walls. My
common sense. He’s slowly softening me, melting me so he can mould me as he
pleases, and it’s working.
As the realisation hits me, I jump out of Tate’s arms,
grab hold of his hand, and pull him to the middle of the kitchen. I smile seductively
at him and wink. “I’ll just have to keep you in line and focused then.”
He throws his head back and laughs, allowing me to
ignore the moment and lead him around the centre workbench as we shake,
shimmy, and wiggle to ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift, which is now playing on the
stereo.
