Already Famous

Synopsis

Drew Forrester is a regular guy from Boston, MA with an unusual job. His work keeps him from getting close to anyone, unwilling to give his trust, especially after a terrible betrayal when he left home at nineteen to pursue his dream.

He throws himself into his work and his favorite way of releasing his frustrations, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. He resorts to short term hook-ups, figuring he’ll be alone forever.

When a gorgeous redhead literally falls into his life, he decides that it’s fate and pursues her relentlessly. But this girl is seriously damaged, and keeps secrets that he doesn’t understand and can’t get her to reveal. Her lack of trust and seeming paranoia about letting anyone get close to her leads Drew to keep some secrets of his own.

This is a companion novel to Relatively Famous, told from Drew’s point of view.

Syd & Drew go jogging

Sydney is going to think I’ve lost my mind. She saw me in my dress-down, fan repelling clothes at the café and in my sparring shorts the first day we met. But the last two times I’ve seen her were in private, so I was able to dress like a normal person.

I texted her yesterday from The Hub before the game started to see if she wanted to get together today. She offered for me to join her on her run. That means going out in public, which in turn, means an ugly disguise. Since I can’t wear my wig in front of her, I grab my oldest, baggiest gym clothes and throw them on, praying that no one will recognize me.

The doorman, Richard I think, apparently knew I was coming over because he opened the door as I approached and told me to head straight to the elevator bank. I’m once again thankful that her lobby staff are so discreet.

I knock on 8A and when Sydney opens the door and takes a look at me, her reaction is purely comical. Her hand flies up to her mouth and she lets out a little bark of laughter. Her blue eyes are shining with amusement.

“Interesting choice of clothing,” she says, struggling not to laugh in my face.

Sydney looks delectable in her tight black Lycra pants and thermal running jacket, I’m unable to stop staring at her ass as she turns to let me inside.

I look like a complete bum and she called me on it, so I feel like I have to defend myself a little, even though she’s completely right. “What? I think I look like a guy who wants to work out.”

She eyes my tattered B.C. sweatshirt and Patriots skullcap and smiles, bumping me gently with her hip. “You look like you crawled out of a sewer and stole from the lost and found at a college student center.”

God she’s adorable. I wrap my arms around her tiny waist and drag her over to me, rubbing my two day old stubble all over her face and neck. “You love it!” I say as she squeals and struggles to free herself from my torture.

She’s laughing uncontrollably now. “Stop! It tickles! Stop it!” I laugh with her and reluctantly let her go.

Her body in her super tight clothing is dangerous, not only can I not keep my hands off of her, but I start to get aroused, which makes me flirtatious. “Well, we can’t all be as sexy as you when we exercise.”

Her gaze darkens at my words and her voice gets husky, letting me know that my charms have worked on her. “Trust me, you are sexy. It’s just hidden under all of that hideous clothing.” She smiles, continuing, “You know this is New York don’t you? Some might take offense at all of that Boston paraphernalia.”

Once again, she says something completely unexpected and I love it. “Am I wearing my human-repelling costume again, Miss Allen?”

“Why I believe you are, Mr. Forrester. But once again, it’s not going to keep me away. Now, let’s hit the pavement.”

Sydney leads me on what she says is her normal jogging route. She says she normally does anywhere from six to eight miles each time she runs. She’s in phenomenal shape. I admit that I wasn’t sure if she would actually run that far in this cold weather but she does.

We go all the way from the West Village to Battery Park and back up. It’s easier than sparring with Bobby or Damien, but it’s infinitely more difficult because I have Sydney’s Lycra-clad ass inches from me and I can’t do anything about it. More than once I think about yanking off her bright pink ear warmer, tying her hands together with it, and fucking her until she passes out. Not my finest moment, but I am glad I wore baggy sweats.

We walk the final half mile back to her building and enter her loft covered in sweat. The two of us stagger to the kitchen and Sydney hands me a cold bottle of water from her fridge, watching while I immediately down the entire liter. She’s drinking hers when I turn to her and say one word, “Shower?” Maybe she was thinking about sex the entire run too, because she doesn’t hesitate to hold out her hand and lead me to her room.

Sydney goes straight into the bathroom and starts the shower while I peel off my damp clothes and leave them in a heap on the floor. When I step into the en suite, she’s already in the huge enclosure, her toned body partially obscured by the layer of steam that’s formed on the glass. I stand there gaping for a minute, I don’t know if I’ve ever been so aroused in my life.

“Mind if I join you?” I open the door and press against her, kissing her inviting mouth. She eagerly lets me in, wrapping her arms around my neck and rubbing against me, quickly driving me to the edge of my self-control.

I place my hands on her waist and yank her hips into me, fitting my cock so it slides between her legs, but not inside her. Sydney lets me push her back until she’s flat against the tile wall, the hot water raining down on us as we devour each other, nipping and tasting each other’s mouths while our tongues twist together in ecstasy. The entire time I keep sliding my wet cock back and forth against her slit, devouring every moan that she makes as the friction increases her pleasure.

Needing more contact, I reach down and grab behind each knee, pulling her legs up and holding her against the wall by cupping her tight ass. I continue grinding my dick between us, up and down her folds as she whimpers into my mouth. Before I can protest, her hand snakes down and guides me inside her. I gasp at the feel of her bare skin clenching around my cock. It’s too much to take.

“Sydney, I can’t last like this. Are you on birth control?” I ask, barely able to sound out the words as the thrilling surge of pleasure nearly blinds me.

“No, just pull out. I need you Drew,” she moans and bucks against me again, nearly incapacitating my ability to think. Fuck, she’s going to kill me. What if I can’t pull out in time? The only thing that stops me is my overwhelming respect for Sydney. My head drops over her shoulder and I press my forehead into the wall so I can regain control of myself.

“Sydney, I can’t do that to you.” I slide out of her and reach over to turn off the water. “Keep your legs around me.” I carry her out of the shower and put her on the counter next to the sink. “Wait here,” I demand, staring at her until I’m sure she won’t move. Sydney watches me with heavy lidded eyes as I hurry and pull a condom out of my discarded pants and rush back into the bathroom as I’m rolling it on.

“Hurry Drew,” Sydney begs as she digs her nails into my ass and pulls me back between her legs only happy once I sink back inside her tight heat.

She’s immediately groaning and writhing and it quickly spirals into something too intense for me to handle. The sensation of our wet skin slapping together as I fuck her, sends sparks flying across my field of vision. Any remaining shred of rational thought that I had left, leaves my body and once again my dick is now in complete control. I grip her hips hard enough to leave bruises thrust violently into her, pinning her against the counter.

Once I pick up the pace, Syd starts convulsing and screaming, pulling my hair fiercely as she comes apart. Shit, she must have wanted this as badly as I did because she is fucking gorgeous as she comes. Trying to hold her slippery body in place on top of the counter takes a lot of effort but it’s worth it. I continue diving in and out of her tight pussy, the unbelievable rightness of it overwhelming me. Hot and wet and gripping, I can detect every movement she makes.

“Hold on to me Sydney!” I yell as I keep driving in and out, slamming in deeper each time. She tightens her arms around my neck and moans into my mouth when I lift her up and fuck her hard until I come forcefully into her, sparks of pleasure shoot down my spine and through my balls until I’m completely empty. Spent and panting, I lay my forehead on her shoulder, still holding her up against the sink.

Sydney loosens her tight grip on my neck and slowly lowers her feet to the floor. Still recovering, all I can do is stand there, leaning against her as I breath heavily into her wet, disheveled hair. She runs her mouth gently up and down my neck and shoulder until I finally have the energy to look up. Overcome with emotion, I kiss her gently and pull her close, wrapping my arms around her back.

“How about we shower again, using soap this time?” she asks, then she laughs and squirms out of my arms so she can turn the water back on.

Fuck, I’m totally in love with her.

Could this series get any hotter? I have to say I think it just might. When I got the opportunity to read Holding Aces I was a little apprehensive. Books staged around Vegas just didn’t appeal to me. Nikki changes my view on that in just a few paragraphs. High Stakes has just pushed me over the edge. You know the old saying never judge a book by its cover; well I guess that stands true to never judge it by its settings!

If you looking for a book that is full of hot encounters, lots of suspense and mystery, you will find just that and more with High Stakes. I have fallen in love with this series again. Dehman is that hot alpha male that just can’t seem to say no to Arianna. He is fierce in protecting what he hold dear. Arianna is trying to find herself after living most of her adult life being told what she will do and how she will do it. She is fighting hard to gain herself back.

As we all know Nikki will not just let things run smooth with the Kings and their life’s which makes for a very powerful read.

I highly recommend this series!

Excerpt

“Arianna, dear. It’s nice to see you again.” Amy pushes past my shoulder, inviting herself in and taking ownership of the air around us. “Although, I wasn’t expecting to see so much,” she sneers, letting her eyes drift down the length of my legs.

I stand tall, trying not to be intimidated by her, trying to stand my ground in my apartment, but instantly feeling threatened by the way her body reacts to me, and the way her gaze makes me feel cold and uncomfortable.

She lifts her hand toward me, and tucks a long, red, predatory nail under the collar of the white shirt I am wearing, lifting it between her fingertips and gently brushing against my collarbone through the fabric as she does. It sends chills through me. She’s cold. Her aura, her demeanor, and her intentions are all icy and it radiates from her in steady pulses.

“I bet he likes you in this. I bet he asked you to wear it, am I wrong?”

Of course, she’s not wrong. She’s pretty much as correct as can fucking be. I swallow hard. Shards of her persona stick into me like little icy pins. Her words, like little needles of reality, stab into my veins. She knows him better than I do. She knows what he likes, and what he doesn’t. Has he asked her to wear his shirt for him?

Has he told her to dress in nothing but heels and diamonds for him?
The thoughts make me feel sick. But, I know that she’s playing me. I’ve seen Denham’s reaction to her. I’ve seen the contempt in his eyes when her name is mentioned, and I’ve felt the tension radiate from him when he encounters her. She’s a bitch. Pure and simple.

TEASER

He lowered his gaze. “You had this sexy little intake of breath, and you shivered, like you were cold, every time I touched you.”
She gave a similar shiver now. His voice dropped to a lower register.
“I remember what it felt like—your skin. Soft as the rose petals in that greenhouse.”
She found her voice. “Still remember your lines, I see.”

Kathryn Barrett reluctantly put aside childhood dreams of becoming an author and took a more practical approach, majoring in Business Administration in college. But after marrying an Air Force officer, she realized a career in high finance didn’t suit an itinerant lifestyle. She happily returned to her first love, writing stories that feature larger-than-life characters, family relationships, and of course, a happy ending.

Having lived all over the United States, Kathryn and her family now live in England, just outside London. She enjoys walking her dog in the Chiltern hills and exploring crumbling castles, and only occasionally reads the Financial Times.

This book is going to have you yelling and screaming. The emotions that are brought out in this book are amazing.  This book has you thinking could I deal with that it was me and how would I feel if it was me. I did feel that that story was a little dragged out a little.  I loved that plot and the writing style. Victoria has a  true talent to pull you and keep you turning the pages.  Over all this is a very well laid out book. The twist and turns of this read are amazing. You’re going to be blown away the surprises that are thrown at you. This is not a story for the faint at heart it deals with some pretty heavy life events. You have to go in with and open and understanding mind.

Blake is a mystery but you get hints in to what might be going on. You’re going to have points in the story where you’re going to want to beat Blake. Josie is an amazing strong girl that has learned some hard lessons. Josie is an amazingly strong and very straight forward. You just fall in love with her. Seth is pretty amazing in his own right and I hope we see more of him and get to know more of his story.

Enjoy this excerpt from That’s a Promise:

Chapter 5

September 2009

When we got outside, Blake grabbed me and led me towards the wall where he caged me with a hand on either side of my head. He was breathing heavily, and for a moment neither of us said anything. Our breaths combined as if they weren’t coming from either of us— as if we were one breathing being. He moved his hand to my face, traced down my cheek, and cupped my jaw.

“That was so stupid and reckless,” he said, anger and awe mixing in his tone.

He moved his fingers to softly trace my lips, and rested his other hand at the small of my back. His fingers grazed over the skin between my shirt and shorts, raising goose bumps all along my skin. It felt like I had been shocked and then reawakened with raw passion. With a gentle tug, he pulled my hips right into his.

“It was also the sexiest fucking thing I have ever seen.”

He crushed his lips against mine, and I moaned at the ferocity of the moment. I moved my arms to wrap around his neck and pressed my chest to his so we were as close together as we could be. My bottom lip was trapped between his. The light touch of his tongue hinted at more.

He grabbed the back of my head and put his other hand on the wall so he could grind his hips even harder against mine. I could feel how much he wanted me, and desire flooded me. With every lick of his tongue against mine, I could picture that same pressure against other parts of my body.

I moved my hands to rub his arms and his muscles tightened underneath my touch. Please, touch me more. My heart thudded and I arched my back, desperate. Blake moved the hand that had been in my long hair down my neck, and touched the cleavage that was spilling from the top of my shirt. He ran his hand down my ribs and then went under my blue top, to touch my bare skin. His hand, splayed against my stomach, made the heat that was building inside of me turn into a wildfire. I let out a loud moan, but I was too distracted by his lips to be embarrassed.

He pushed me harder against the wall and started trailing kisses and licks down the side of my neck. When the bricks scraped against the skin of my back, I was brought back to reality by the agonizing torment that would follow me around like a grim reaper looking for death.

With a hand around my throat, stopping my screams, he pushed my dress up to my neck.

“You make a noise, and I won’t let you get out of this alive. No one is coming for you, sweetheart,” he growled. He shoved me back against the brick wall. My bare skin scraped against the brick and blood trickled down my raw skin.

I gasped and pulled away from Blake. His brows knit in confusion, but once he got a look at my panic-stricken face, he backed away from me.

“We… I… no more.” I couldn’t catch my breath and fought to calm the intense emotions that consumed me. I was rocking back and forth when I felt Blake slide down next to me. I don’t know how he knew, but he didn’t touch me and I was grateful. His presence was enough. There were no tears. There hadn’t been any tears since that night.

After a few minutes I calmed down enough to sit back against the wall. Blake rested with his knees pulled up, arms bent, and face in his hands. He looked up at me, and the anguish almost broke my heart.

“I’m s-,” he began.

“I’m so sor-” I said at the same time. “Blake, there’s a lot you still don’t know about me. I’m sorry I freaked out.” I looked back over at him and he sat up straighter and creased his brows together.

“Don’t ever say you’re sorry for wanting to stop or for needing a freak out moment. I will never force you to do something you don’t want to.”

I nodded, and felt a little better hearing his words. I wasn’t ready to delve into the reasons behind my change in mood. It was enough to know that he understood, and wasn’t going to press me for anything more than I was willing to give him.

Excerpt

“It’s my understanding you requested me specifically,” she said smoothly, but he could see that she kept moving things on her desk with her busy hands.

“That’s right, Doc.”

“So, I hope that means you plan to be serious about this consult, Mr. McCoy,” she said carefully, catching him staring at her chest. And Wyatt couldn’t hold back the smile that spread across his face.

“I’m willing to do anything for my NFL career, Doc. Besides, cut me some slack, you’re the one that wore that sexy lab coat.”

She practically growled in frustration and he loved it. He needed her off-balance for what he had in mind, but damned if he hadn’t guessed he’d enjoy it this much.

Time to push her a little more, he thought.

As he leaned across her desk and perused her body up and down, he whispered, “Though I do wish it were tighter.”

“Right. Because I sit around in a lab coat to be sexy. Like I’m in Hustler magazine or something.” She suddenly started to coo in a Marilyn Monroe breathy voice. “Oh, no. This microscope is so heavy. Guess I should bend down to relieve the weight of this massive tool. Oh, what’s here between my legs? Oh, it’s so warm down there. Maybe I should investigate? Please. So ridiculous,” she said to herself with annoyance. “Excuse me, are you okay, Mr. McCoy?”

He was definitely not okay. His mouth had fallen open slightly and all the blood had rushed to his lap. Wyatt was so hard he was practically in pain, realizing he may have underestimated this woman. Maybe. Her voice broke through his lust-filled fog.

“I thought it was your shoulder that had the issue. Do you have a head injury too?” she asked with concern, replacing her previously sultry voice.

“Um. Yeah. I mean no. Just my shoulder. You’re the second opinion on my shoulder injury, and my coach also said maybe you could help my game. I’m not sure how though.”

“It may be hard for you to imagine that you could need help from anyone, but I’ve certainly been able to assist some of your teammates to use their bodies more effectively.”

Wyatt raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Now that’s more like what I had in mind.”

There was a light rap on the door. “Jake, are you in there?” a feminine voice asked from the other side.
I stood, with the help of my crutch, and walked over to the closed door. I opened it to find Jenna on the other side. “Sorry, I just needed some quiet time.”
Jenna smiled. “I don’t think there is such a thing as quite time in the Welsh     household.”
“Come on in,” I offered, moving aside to make room for her to enter.
Jenna stepped into the bathroom, her heels clicking on the tile floor. She shut the door behind her, leaned against it and closed her eyes. She was dressed in a red velvet  sleeveless dress and black stockings, her long blonde hair gently falling over her  shoulders. Jenna was pretty and always had an available posse of boys who followed her around. She frequently dated, but was never serious with any one guy. That     probably had something to do with the fact that she had three big brothers who would beat the crap out of anyone who tried to take advantage of her.
“You’re right. It is quiet. That’s a nice change of pace,” she sighed, opening her eyes to meet my gaze. Jenna took a few more steps towards me. Soon we were inches apart. Her gaze never left mine. Her hazel eyes held promise. Then she wet her lips with her tongue and leaned in to kiss me.
I was taken aback by the action—my lips unmoving, my eyes wide open, watching her kiss me. It was unbelievable to comprehend any girl would want to kiss ‘Jake the cripple,’ but Jenna was kissing me. I felt the tip of her tongue dart into my mouth and I moaned. I dropped my crutch, the aluminum clanging as it hit the floor, and wrapped my arms around her waist. Closing my eyes, I let go and kissed her back. Her mouth was sweet and supple, warm and wet.
When we finally pulled apart, we were gasping for air, Jenna’s hands on my     shoulders, her forehead resting on my chin. “I always wondered what it be like to kiss you, Jake. Damn, that was amazing.” She looked up at me through her thick black eyelashes and smiled. “Where did you learn to kiss like that?”
I shrugged, feeling my cheeks grow red. “I don’t know. You’re the first girl I ever kissed.”
“I think we should try that again,” she said, leaning in for another kiss.
We kissed with more feeling. Jenna’s hands caressed my neck, then her fingers tangled in my hair. I tried to pull back, afraid she would feel my growing arousal. This was all brand new to me. I’d never imagined any girl would be interested in me and   assumed I’d live my life alone, without physical connection. Yet, here was pretty Jenna—gorgeous Jenna—making the moves on me!
When we came up for air, I gently brushed a stray strand of her hair behind her ear, touched her swollen lips with the pad of my thumb. “Why me?”
“Why not? You’ve been a permanent fixture in the household for six years. I’ve had a crush on you forever, Jake.”
“I had no idea,” I stuttered. I had no clue why Jenna was attracted to me, but I seized the moment and asked, “Will you go out with me, on a real date?”
“Compared to a fake date?” she asked with confusion.
“No, I mean, you won’t be embarrassed be to seen with me in public?”
“Why would I be embarrassed?”
I motioned to my bum leg, but didn’t say a thing.
“Jake, I don’t care about your leg. I care about you. I would be honored to go on a real date with you.”
I smiled, so happy in the moment that I forgot one major detail. “Oh, shit. Your  brothers are going to kill me when they find out.”
Jenna simply laughed. “Seriously, you’re a part of this family. They love you like a brother.”
“That makes you my sister and that just sounds perverted.”
“John and Jason will be heading back to college and Rick doesn’t need to know.”
I thought about it for a second. That was all I needed to make up my mind. “Pick you up at seven tomorrow?”
“Perfect,” she replied, leaning in for one last kiss. “I’ll go out first. Meet you downstairs.” Jenna opened the door and peeked outside into the hall to make sure the coast was clear. She looked over her shoulder and said, “Merry Christmas, Jake.”
It turned out to be a merry Christmas indeed.

Blurb

Evan Hermes traded in romance for pragmatism when he suggested marriage at their New Year’s Eve party to his girlfriend Kitt Preston. It was a “suggestion” which wasn’t well received by the love of his life. Though it’s taken him most of the year to figure out the perfect proposal, this time romance is front and center to obtain a yes!

Kitt has been in love with Evan ever since he asked her out during their first year of college. Tall, handsome, and a family man, Evan is the kind of person that most women would be falling over themselves to marry…but not her. Kitt is only willing to say yes to a marriage proposal that is worthy of their love and years together.

I enjoy this short story. It was packed full of fun. The story was a simple love story.  Kitt and Evan love is the true love that we all look for and you see this through this short. All us females dream of having the man in our life knowing just what we dream of happening when asked that all important question, but let’s face it that not always going to happen. This was the problem Kitt was dealing with.

I love the plot to this book, so there was no fail there. What I did find that I had a hard time with was that the book was trying to put too much in this short. I would like to have seen it a little longer and the story a little longer to spread the story out and not feel so crammed together.  I felt at times the story was jumping from point to point a little too fast which made the story seem crammed.  I do feel that if the story was extended out a little that I would have enjoy it a lot more than I did.  I’m looking forward to reading more of Keshia’s work. She has some wicked talent.
